Intro: I’ve tested quite a few new Fitbits over the last weeks, and this little Fitbit, the Fitbit Inspire 3, might actually be my favorite out of all of them. If one of my friends wanted to buy a Fitbit, this is the one I would most likely recommend. In this video, I’ll systematically and unbiasedly test the heart rate tracking accuracy, sleep tracking performance and step counting accuracy of the Fitbit Inspire 3. By the way, even though I would recommend the Inspire 3 out of the Fitbits I recently tested; whether you should buy any Fitbit at all is another question altogether, which I’ll also address in this video.
I did want to make 3 short remarks about the Inspire 3: first of all, the biggest change compared to the Inspire 2 is the new screen; the Fitbit Inspire 3 now has a color screen and also a slightly different design. Overall, it looks less bulky to me, and I honestly like the overall look much better. Second, the Inspire 3 is still the entry level Fitbit, setting you back 100 dollars, making it the most affordable Fitbit from this latest generation. Finally, you should be aware that the Inspire 3 does not have built-in GPS, so you still need to take your phone with you to track your workouts. Now, that’s enough background, let's get to the test results.

Hi Rob, Thanks a lot for all these tests, videos, advice and comparaisons. It is a huge and great job that you make for your community and anyone who is looking for objective datas. I post here in the last video I found for ask if you have plan to test the last creation of withings (the body scan). Yes it is not a watch but, like you did the sleep analyzer I thought that could be in your plan ;^p.

Great information! An interesting thing I found for when Inspire 3 counts steps when it shouldn't---when ringing handbells! Obviously, not something that the majority of people do, but when I am rehearsing handbell ringing, it definitely counts that as steps. Originally discovered this by accident when the "you've reached your step goal" notification went off close to the end of a rehearsal (we stand at a table when ringing, so no walking around). But it does not count steps when pushing a cart around the grocery store, so I figure it sort of evens out!

    Hi Rob.
I had a question regarding the new Inspire 3 and the Charge 5.
I'm looking for a fitness tracker with a focus on good to decent sleep tracking capability.
Do you think the new Inspire 3 is in any way better or more accurate than the older Charge 5 when tracking sleep?
My reasoning is that since the Inspire 3 is newer maybe Fitibit have had more time to work on the sensor and it's a bit "better" than the Charge 5.

Great video, thank you. Also i really appreciate that you spend time to answer questions in the comments. That's really something. I have a question :) -
I need a watch, mainly to be able give me a good measure for my Vo2 ma and hearth rate. I am planing to buy and use the chest POLAR H10, so i will have even better hearth rate data and HRV information. I just want an overall good watch with accurate Vo2 Max. So now i am currently looking for Garmin forerunner 55( now on sale in my country), forerunner 245( even tho i think is not an good option), and maybe something else in this budget range.( I am considering venu 2, but it is a lot of money). I woul really appreciate if you answer me and give me some help. :)
It's absolutely okay if there is Huawei, or other good watch which will do the work. :)

Amazing video as always. I just bought my Inspire 3 a week ago and I am super happy with its performance. I can’t put it in numbers like the video, but I believe that the heart rate monitor is accurate enough for spinning and doing some exercise at home. I do believe that i counts more steps, but overall I’m happy with the performance. The app shows a lot of information (even without the premium subscription) and I find it very helpful as a health tracker over all

  • @NicksStuff
    @NicksStuff Рік тому +10

I know you wanna test the accuracy of the watches rather than read the datasheets but mentioning some important features would be cool. Like some tracker don't offer a smart alarm: to me that renders the sleep analysis a *lot* less useful. You could even test it: check whether or not it wakes you up when the EEG finds you are in light sleep

Try a Whoop strap! that's what I'm planning to get since it has 12 months free when you first purchase it and rob regards it to be pretty accurate overall for everything. Although if I did get a Fitbit the inspire 3 would be the one. Especially after having the inspire 2 it was great.

    • @micahjohnson9184
      @micahjohnson9184 Рік тому

@@PietriGuitars Yes, like I said the first 12 months are free and after that I can just pay the annual fee to see the data all year long. Rob recommends it for overall health tracking because it gives accurate and reliable data on top of giving great suggestions for improving your health which is intuitive, more so than many health and fitness trackers. Doesn't matter to me as long as the data is accurate my health matters more. If it helps me stay healthier in the long run personally I'm fine with it. It's one of the best recommendations for people that don't have Apple devices or want them and Apple only works with Apple so yeah. At the very least you won't be throwing away that same amount of money on a cheap fitness tracker there are only a few reliable ones out there and they're either really good at one thing and very poor/ mediocre in another. Highly likely they're bad in both the cheaper you get.

Hi, i watched your review on the Mi Band 7 and Inspire 3, your step counting you rated a 4.5/5 on the Mi Band 7 but not rating on this one could you tell me which is the most accurate in terms of steps? thanks

Still worth to buy inspire TWO now if it’s just half of the price? I’m thinking to buy inspire 2 for my 8-10 years old kids. Thanks.

I’m always curious about if you flip the chart. Instead of how much the eeg deep sleep was detected by the Fitbit, whoop, etc. how much of the deep sleep detected by the Fitbit is considered deep by the eeg. I’m not the phd candidate here, so I’m just wondering. It seemed like it might be at least equally useful but maybe more interesting.
Current chart: how much of this phase does the device correctly detect? it detected 75% of the deep sleep
Chart flipped: how poorly does the device detect this phase? 50% of the detected deep sleep was wrong
Again I might be wrong, would be interesting to know why you set the chart the way you do because I’m not sure if it’s more useful to know that it does recognize when you’re in deep sleep with a small percentage of false negatives or if it’s more useful to know that it does detect deep sleep with a lot of false positives. Something about it, I lean towards looking at my watch data and asking how much of the deep sleep is actually deep sleep rather than did it catch all of the deep sleep? Of course this wouldn’t be the complete picture either.
If you made it through my incoherent rambling this far, I would like to see both charts. Including the scatterplot. I think it would be interesting.

Hi! That makes complete sense, and I will consider it :-)! Might be interesting to show these two average values on both axis of my plots. Showing both in a video on detail might be a bit too much for people ;-) 😊

@@TheQuantifiedScientist I agree with you that both might be a bit much. I'm not entirely sure which one is more useful or if it is best to display them on one chart. I think your scatterplot makes sense. I'm not sure how you would show the two averages on the plot, that chart might be a bit confusing. I'm trying to understand myself what it might mean. Might be better to keep things the way they are. 😂
right now it is the average of the percent of "true" positives vs the lowest percent of "true" positive for the 4 stages. Did I say that correctly?
The alternative you suggested would be the average of the the percent of true positives vs the average percent of false positives?
so if 70% of deep sleep is labeled deep sleep, 80% of light sleep, 60% of REM, and 70% of wakefulness. one axis would have 70%
But if 50% of what the watch called deep sleep was wrong, 10% of the watch's light sleep was wrong, etc. then you would take the average of those and put them on the other axis?
I don't know if I have this correct, but it might be too confusing to do it this way without showing the data that led to it. Might be better just to keep doing things the way you're doing them? I'm really working hard to not cross the line into telling you how to do your job because I really don't know, I'm just being curious. Please don't make any changes unless you believe in them.
maybe a link to a second chart in the video details for myself and the 4 people who upvoted my comment 😂

Is there any way to display Fitbits nightime oxygen data ? All they show is " estimated variation" in the app. But I know the watches collecting the actual data

Oi, can you recommend a tracker for football that won't break the bank? Is Fitbit Charge 5 accurate? Only these 3 points matter to me:
    1. Total distance
    2. Top and average speed (i guess gps is a must here for accuracy, but how accurate are they even with gps? wouldn't like to be a fake Usain Bolt you know)
    3. HR/VO2max would be good as well

I'm wearing the pixel watch, which uses fitbit analytics for sleep etc... and my experience suggests the sleep tracking is way way off. As I work nights and it literally says I'm sleeping whilst at the desk. You'd think typing away would make a difference to its analytics, but it really doesn't. I have Asian colour skin so don't know if its data is so bad because of that or its that I am working whilst everyone else is asleep.

Fitbit is great for sleep tracking it is small and comfortable for me than Apple Watch in bed. But this is just my opinion. Apple Watch are overall the best . But I am considering Huawei GT3 pro for day and this Fitbit just for sleep tracking. Thanks for reviews u are doing very good job. Nobody does this deep research about smartwatches/bands.

I think calculating mean squared error for heart rate measurements relative to the polar would be a good metric to show. It can address some of the deficiencies with correlation like you mentioned in this video. I don't think it'd be that hard to retroactively calculate either, assuming you still have the data from previous reviews.

Hi Rob! Big fan of ur contents. If u dont mind could you do me a favor? I want you to review on Realme Watch S, because my dad is using it who is a really sick heart patient, he is getting demotivated to see his Heart rate go over 120-130 when he is idle. I told him that the watch cant be so accurate and sometimes it may give the false results too. I want you to make a video review about it so i can prove him how accurate is the watch is. Thanks Rob.

You will have to excuse me but you may had skipped over the part that you said in the beginning of "why you may not want to buy one at all" unless that was part of the conclusion of it is just mediocre in GPS and HR?
