  • Have you ever wondered how high the Great Sky Island is? How deep the Depths are? Today, I'm using real physics equations to measure the height of objects in Hyrule! #totk #zelda #botw
Tears of the Kingdom lacks a built-in measurement tool or photo mode, making it challenging to determine exact heights. As a physics student, I thought using real-world equations could provide accurate results. By calculating Link's weight and measuring his fall time, we can use physics formulas to determine the exact distance he fell.
Join me as I explore the scientific side of Hyrule and uncover the hidden measurements of its iconic locations.

Something that should hopefully come in handy:
At the bottom of the mini-map are coordinates measured in meters: left, center, and right being latitude, longitude, and altitude, respectively. With these, we can see the height of each fall in real time.
Jumping from the top of the lookout tower (114m) to the ground (25m) measures the tower to be 89m tall
Jumping from the Room of Awakening (2227m) to the island below (roughly 1568m) was a total fall 659m (close!)
Jumping from the Temple of Time (1472m) to the Bottomless Pong (53m) was a total fall of 1411m, give or take Link's height of 1.52m
and lastly, jumping from Death Mountain (700m) to the lava floor (-1040), makes for a total fall of 1740m
Still a really fun video despite my semantics, keep up the good work!

So i've been researching this, and A meter in Hyrule is actually not the same as a real meter. Let's say you walk around 3 meters (in real measurements) in totk, the map would probably say you moved about 6 instead. Using unit conversions, I found out that a Hyrule meter is around 0.4 metric meters (I rounded the answer.) in the early stages of making the script and testing the physics for this video, I knew it could probably be measured with the minimap, so when my end calculation for the tower's height did not say 89, I was confused. After a little digging, I found out meters in Hyrule are not the same

What is the formula you are using? I am surprised that you use the weight of Link because it should cancel out on a free fall. And did you take air resistance into account?
I like the idea, by the way.

I didn't think quite that far into the idea lol

Also according to the fall calculator my answer was correct
