The Acoustic Energy Corinium is a 3.5 way floorstanding speaker and the new flagship of the Acoustic Energy range. As it stands, it is the only speaker of this type that the company intends to make and it represents a significant increase in cost over the AE520 which has been the range topper so far. It even gains a name instead of a number; the Roman name for what is now Cirencester near where Acoustic Energy is based.
This increase in cost brings with it a significant increase in expectations too. A six-grand speaker is realistically the start of what can be described as the high-end. It represents an investment that requires thought and no little bravery and with that comes a tendency to be more risk-averse. It’s all very well telling somebody else to try an all-new arrival but when it comes to your hard-earned, you’re probably going with the known quantities. For the Corinium to be in with a shout of winning you over it needs to be very good indeed.
It also needs to meet a challenge more specific to Acoustic Energy. This is a company with a formidable reputation for small speakers over and above anything else. The Corinium is actually fractionally shorter than the AE520 but it is by most judgements a large speaker. How does the company leverage its small speaker excellence into making something a bit heftier and does the end result work? It’s time to find out.

Hi thanks for the review. I was considering these to go with a Rega Aethos or supernait 2 with hicap Dr which I both own. How does the corinium fare on deep bass ie ambient or dub music ? Also interested in the dynaudio evoke 50 which is less expensive comments welcomed.
