It should be really easy in this day and age to share the teams meeting on one side of the screen and the PowerPoint presentation in the second half of the screen, but it really isn’t. Am I missing something here?

Mr. Stratvert, you're the best. You are my "go-to" person when it comes to all things Microsoft. I'm constantly asked to create presentations for various departments and my work, and now that Teams is another option instead of Zoom, our industry is beginning to use it more and more. Your instructions are clear, easy to understand and they are all amazing. Thank you for the continuous support to those of us who need help when it comes to Microsoft's many wonderful office tools.

Fantastic timing. I am preparing some PowerPoint slides to use in a virtual training scenario to train some colleagues in SharePoint online. I have usually sat next to people in the office to train them one to one but with lockdown and working from home have been asked to train them virtually. I am not a trainer but have been using SharePoint in my job as an Intranet Manager for a number of years and will happily share my knowledge. Until lockdown I hadn’t attended virtual meetings let alone any virtual training. But I have been doing some research and preparing a training manual with some hands on exercises along with a couple of presentations. I have done a pre and post course questionnaires in Microsoft forms and am taking it all very seriously as I want us all to have the best outcome and it not just be me presenting.

Hi Kevin, Thank you so much for all your tutorials. I have a question regarding the first way to present PowerPoint slides that you showed us. I have a Wacom drawing tablet and I use it to explain the content in my classes, basically, it is my whiteboard. I was wondering if I could use your method while I am presenting in my class and even use it when my students are presenting so that I can write on top of the slides, as I usually do and use this as feedback. I really do appreciate your work, thank you so much!

The main issue with presenting powerpoint in Teams is trying to see your notes as a speaker and participants raising their digital hands for questions.

Kevin, this was the best video on this topic I've seen. I've shared this info with colleagues who were having this problem, and now they can see the screen and the chat at the same time.
A couple of points of caution for people using these methods: sharing the desktop version (the second method) means you can see the Teams meeting chat, but if you type into the Teams window you will have to navigate back to the PPT window afterwards. If you use the web-based PPT, be sure to enable font embedding before you upload into Teams or use fonts that are available with PowerPoint Online.

I have been practicing step by step all your tips for presenting a ppt...when I am in presenter view, I can utilize the annotation tools and see the next slide. Nice video, thank you. I usually have two monitors and setup for full screen on one and the navigation view on the other. Share the full screen and use the other to navigate, see notes and the next screen coming up. It's not completely ideal as teams window gets obscured but I think it provides the best experience for the other users. May be the same as sharing the single window like you show. We pretty much exclusively use the app and not teams inside the browser.

I love these videos and am devouring them all in the evenings after school after everyone has gone to bed. I am a public school teacher in NC, and I teach middle school band. We are finishing our first week of school and we are using Microsoft Teams and Canvas. I am doing daily live classes on Teams and there are so many teachers figuring and sharing useful things, and some band directors in our area are doing the same. Band is sooooo ooooooooo difficult to do without the kids being able to hear and play with each other. I understand that it is impossible to recreate a band rehearsal experience where the kids are playing and in real time can see me and hear their classmates playing at the same time. I am not trying to create that. What I can do is share their individual sheet music that they can read and play from an uploaded mp3 recording. Now, they can all do this as we are in a live Teams meeting. What I cannot do is go from student to student and simply click and check on "little Johnny" with where ever he is in the piece of music and watch his posture, horn carriage, and how well he is playing along with the backing track recording with correct notes, tone quality and phrasing, and then click on "little Suzy" to do the same thing, and then go on throughout the entire class. At the end of the allotted time of say 5 minutes of rehearsing something, with me checking in and out of all of them, I could give real and effective feedback for them to get better and therefore mirroring a little bit of what we would be doing in class in face to face normal teaching. So Kevin, is there a way that I could have the students begin rehearsing and then simply click on each student so that I and only i can hear them playing, all while everyone else continues to rehearse and not be affected as well?

Kevin: if you use the second method you show here (instead of going into slide show), are you still able to actively edit the PowerPoint when screen sharing it? One of the drawbacks with the actual screen share is that you can't capture discussion items within the PowerPoint itself, but I'm thinking that with your second method it may be possible to do so.

🙂 Great : well done, synthetic, crystal clear explanations and, above all, perfect English 100% understandable for a French like me !

Hi Kevin and thanks for this - it really helps as I am a new individual to Teams. I have two monitors: how can I see the PP presentation notes if I use the first, cleaner option on the video? Many thanks.

I tend to use the notes section in ppt a lot when presenting. If you're like me, in teams, use share > PowerPoint window then in ppt, press alt f5 (which presents slide show in presenter view). This way you can see the notes, how long you've been presenting, and what the next slide is while your audience will only see the current slide in full screen

Thank you - that’s all I needed to know. In typical Microsoft fashion this video is over-engineered and doesn’t actually do what the user needs!

Great tips 😁 Thanks 4 sharing. I have to present to my class on Sunday & we are using MS Teams. This will be my first time using MS Teams. I am a grad student in the MSW program online.
