  • HEALTH WARNING : LONG VIDEO 🤪
Nippy Normans, kindly sent me the
Wunderlich clear headlight protector to do an installation video.
The cost of a stone going through your new BMW R1250GS'S headlight will be expensive, £900?
The headlight protector is of very good quality, but as I have the OEM auxiliary lights, the mounting bar causes the install to be an issue, kind of .
The instruction in the box are not that clear , hence Nippy Normans approaching me . Customers give negative feedback on the install instructions , particularly GS’s with the auxiliary lights mounting bar under the beak.
Best method , is to remove the side fairings and beak , to make access to the mounting bar nuts , so much easier ! Less likely to damage your pride and joy.
Panel removal is about 10-15 minutes
Installation of headlight protector is 10-15 minutes
Putting the panels back, another 10-15 minutes
TOTAL TIME IS ABOUT 35-45 MINUTES WITH LITTLE STRESS😁
    Part number : WUN-26660-300
    £119
You can try to access the bottom frame mount screws/nut if you want and not remove panels etc, but it will bring you a bit of frustration and possible frame scratching .If so, jump to 06:23 below.😁
    00:00 Introduction
    01:12 What's in the box
03:19 Prepare the bike for the install
    06:23 Installing the headlight

I am sure there are other ways, but this is mine, with the auxiliary lights and mounting bar and no damage caused 👍

Another great video. Have also fitted this to my 1250 GS after looking at all the other options available and am really pleased with the decision to get this one. Would recommend smearing a bit of silicone grease on the top bracket pins that the screen grommets clip onto, to extend the life of the grommet rubber and to help when flipping the screen down for cleaning.

Great video. Helped me alot in putting the cover on. Being very clumsy, its best to wear a hard hat, as underneath the beak there are lots of edges to bash your head. After fitting the screen my head looked like i attacked it with a jigsaw, beware!!!!!

I've just finished fitting the Wunderlich folding lens protector to my brand new GS 1250 Adventure. It's a little more involved as the body work is a little bit more difficult to remove especially as the upper engine protection bar has to come off as does the tank top cover . However it wasn't too difficult and your detailed instructions did help to a large extent. The hexagonal hole for the large 8mm nut and bolt can't even be seen on the GSA so you've no choice but to remove the bodywork from the front of the bike. The front beak is also in two parts, left and right. I was impressed with the relative ease that the whole thing came apart and more importantly went back together. Just a quick FYI to anyone removing the tank cover is that the fuel cap doesn't need to be removed, the cover will pop off the filler cap housing, if like me you're weren't brave enough and undid the fuel filler be aware to correctly line up the rubber gasket that seals the filler body to the tank and make sure that the cap fastener works properly especially with the keyless option. Overall I'm very pleased with the folding light protector and it's not even too obvious that there's one on there that maybe shouldn't be. So it's a thumbs up from me.

    cool vid, some pointers:
    1) let everyone know to watch the vid at least once before actioning (i.e. mentioning to remove items like watches and jewelry to prevent scratches
    2) for the nuts, would locktite be an option to prevent any screws from coming loose?

Thank you for this video, planning to buy one for my ‘18 1200 GS. In my country (The Netherlands) it is allowed to cover 25% of your lights. So.. this is 100% covered but 100% clear! Did you see any difference in the light from the headlamp?

Not picking them up from the spray shop till tomorrow morning and I better be happy with them or they won’t go on. I’ll send you a pic of the headlight protector in a different colour 😮

Just done 1500 miles to the Alps and back , very easy to clean it re bugs etc just like your helmet visor. Did a small bit of night riding with rain thrown in for good measure and with the guard "up"there was a bit of throw back of headlight, but nothing to put you off. In fact, the oem spotlights caused more of a distraction with a rainbow effect being cast on the floor beneath them . Screen is the bmw Rallye one , dark tint.

Thanks. A very comprehensive vid and I have the grill version on order so this is very timely. One question. I am not clear why you removed the plastic panel across the top of the headlight? I initially assumed it was to get access to screws to remove the beak but noticed on the assembly you put it on first and secured it back into place with all four screws. Do you actually need to remove it?

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  2 роки тому +1

Hi . You can leave it on . It just makes removing the beak section when you pull it forward , less likely to a scratch your smooth shiny new bike . So you don’t have to take it off it you don’t want to . Same for putting the beak back on , some folk for the sake of removing 4 screws may find it less stressful if you know what I mean 👍

The BikeThings Ammo Guard is a much better-looking headlight protector. If you didn't know it was installed, you would swear there was no guard on the bike at all. These headlight windscreens just look bulky and detract from the bikes appearance.

I won't fit any Wunderlich products to my bike as they are so over priced it is comical. The light protector for £120.... are you kidding me. I have been in manufacturing all of my life and it is a bit of acrylic and a bent piece of mild steel stamped out.... I reckon on total cost to make it of around £5.
I bought a copy one from China ( probably where the Wuderlich one is made too ) it cost me £19.50. It fitted perfectly and is value for money !
