Yep. I've given up on this year after tons of hours. I don't mind mistakes but when I concede the same type of goal no matter what team or formation is infuriating. The long ball over the top from the wings or a simple lob over the top. It's the same goal every single time. Their striker with maybe 3 finishing turns into prime messi and finishes every single time. Yet when mine are through they'll shoot at the goalie. Ultimately the defending is the worse I've ever experienced in FM. Hopefully FM24 changes it otherwise I can't play it. It puts me in a bad mood.
@joshbracken5450 this is very annoying. My defender with 13 heading and 13 jumping reach was unable to mark someone with a heading of 7 and the 13 jumping reach. He scored 2 goals and the second goal should be impossible for someone with 7 heading. I was screaming where I was how is that possible?
@@joshbracken5450or when a mid table team that lost 5-0 the previous game comes up against your league contender and their goalie turns into prime Casillas😭
To be fair to SI, most teams in real life press quite high compared to past years. I do wish it was easier to control your pressing instead of just having your players run around like mad men. In real life you can have press traps and areas you want to control your opponent. Very hard to impossible to replicate in FM
In truth, you can trigger pressing traps in Football Manager too. That’s SI changed the name from ‘Closing Down’ to ‘Trigger Press.’ You trigger press with opposition instructions. And the line of engagement. If you say trigger press more, and you turn on trigger press for 3-5 opposition players, your players will run like mad men. Choose wisely.
@@Poussyeater-w5e okay, but that also means your players will chase every player the moment the ball is passed to them. Imagine the physical toll that will have on them. Have you ever been in the middle of an el rondo passing drill before? That’s how it feels for your players. In the 75minute, they might not have any energy left.
Very nice video, short but direct :) I agree with the idea that pushing up is the way to go, there seems no way I can stop conceding goals so may as well just go at them.
Gone from unemployed - yeovil - Luton - west brom and now united and used all of what you said, and can confirm it works. Funny I come across your video after 🤣
Interesting video. The only thing that confused me was the title of the video and it's relation to your y-axis' on the graphs. I would have assumed the y-axis would have been points conceded, so was a little confused at first when you report what were the best settings, as it seems like a lot of these are really geared towards scoring more (offense) not conceding less (defense).
Sure, I get that. Given that every team has the same attack strength and tactics, I'd expect that the points earned will be relative to how good a teams defensive tactic was. I could totally include that in future videos. (except the next one, because it's already edited).
Thanks man, highly useful. I've been playing all of these except I'm always stuck in on tackling. Will give stay on feet a try. Maybe your player will be more considerate when to make a tackle and instead of giving away free kicks in dangerous positions, create a counter attack from a deeper position with more of the opponent's players in forward positions. Cheers.
I finde more often pressing way more effective than standard, i don't play often the much more often pressing because of the physical toll it takes on my players because i also play with higher tempo
I have questions. In some ways, I'm worried your data may be skewered. Player attributes play a huge role in the effectiveness of how these works. balls over the top against slow defenders would make your data incomplete. Also defenders great in the air with better anticipation and positioning would deal with a ball over the top. defenders with good teamwork and workrate would cover for each other tactically but still need the attributes to execute the right thing to do. It's not that simple. taking note of the opponent might be the best bet when deciding what to do. To play a high line, the game hints recommend defenders with anticipation, pace, acceleration, workrate, and teamwork. I personally think determinations add to this (Check what it means in the game). There is a synergy between tactics and attributes. Good tactics can mask weak attributes. Better attributes can mask terrible tactics. I'd advise reading Rock End's FM article on making the press effective. there are ideas there that you can extrapolate and use to your advantage. I have tested it. it works but you need to know your team and your identity or style of play.
Hey man, good work with the tactic testing. How many times have teams played each other ? I believe a high number of games would need to be played because of the random nature of FM. Cheers, keep the good work.
Teams play each other 4 times, and there is a minimum of 3 teams with the identical setting to minimise the variation. You are right though, there is a degree of random in the match engine
Trying this out now with Southampton against ManCity. I'm tired man... Can't just keep the goals out. And I've got good players too. Here's hoping for the best.
It's weird to see the Stay On Feet as optimal, when every FMArena or FMBase tactic ever for FM23 uses Get Stuck In. How many tests did you conduct to reach these results?
Good video, but it would also be good to see if there differences in what team uses which tactics, for example is a weak team in the league also good while doing high press or the other way around?
Can you do a video on defenders including all variations of NNCB, CBs, WCBs, BPDs, and all sub settings including stopper, cover, defend or support, defend, attack for WCBs? ❤❤
That is a lot of settings, but I can try and pick some of them out. I don't think I can do every combination of possible centre back pairings as the possibilities are endless!
@StybbGaming I'm currently using a 3 at the back. All BPDs on stopper, cover, stopper, and it works brilliantly. I want to try a new save with 4 at the back, but I can't find any 2 Defender combos which work as well as the stopper/cover/stopper combo I've got currently. Every UA-cam video or tactic uses the same bpd or cbs on defend, and I hoped your OP bar graphs could show us the answers again 😉 🙏 ❤️
I have a slow 3 man defence (compared to league average) and have had good success with a low block and standard pressing. I'd be surprised if picking a high line would give me better results.
thankss so much sirrr, i hope you can make videos to explain about the defenders role, i still confuse about libero or defenders with "cover" duty, which best to clear the through passing
So decided to test this out before leaving a comment here are my results 3:1 win 2:0 win 3:0 win 5:4 win (this gamer is an error i accidently went attacking for 90 mins against juventus rather than postive but still won so dont count this) 3:1 win 2:1 loss 3:0 win (not including the 5-4 game) 3 goals conceded in 6 games 16 goals scored in 6 games my record before i tried this out 2:1 loss 3:2 win 2:2 draw 0-5: loss 4:0 win 1:5 loss 16 goals coneded 11 goals scored so his defence tatics over them games are around 4-5 times better

I like the idea, I can look at that totally!
So does high high mean just that or does it include very high defensive line?😊
Yes, so high line of engagement and high line of defence.
in short: use the good old meta for years now... :)
I know there are a few videos out there on low block, which is not meta - It would be interesting to try them out against the more "meta" tactics.
Low low defence,I can vouch,is shit. The defenders go in the 6 yard box and let the whole area in front of them wide open.

5:4 win (this gamer is an error i accidently went attacking for 90 mins against juventus rather than postive but still won so dont count this)
3:1 win
2:1 loss
3:0 win

3 goals conceded in 6 games
16 goals scored in 6 games

2:1 loss
3:2 win
2:2 draw
