      @@TheFishingKit Hey Kit, I can't believe it's been a year already since I commented on your vid! As you know, half way through that time I got my Stealth and it's been a real game changer, along with switching more to trolling hard bodies instead of slowly trolling live goat fish!
      I did have two of those X raps with the three trebles. The first one lasted five minutes! I think a wahoo ate it whole and snipped my mono leader. The second one I customised a bit. I took the three trebles off and put singles on the front and rear hoops, leaving the middle one empty. The singles were long enough that the front one covered most of the area down to where the second hoop is. Anyway, saw my first mahi of the season last month, paddled towards it and boom. I had my drag set for wahoo, not mahi and he snapped my leader on a leap...2nd X rap gone!
      Now here's a question. I was keen to try some bigger, deeper lures, so I tried the Yozuri DD magnum 18cm with the huge lip. As you can imagine, when you troll one of these, you can really feel it! I was good for about an hour with it, but I my muscles could still feel it the next day. So here's the question: have you tried taking a deep-diver with a big bib and filing the bib down? I know it will take away from how far down it will go, but it should make it easier on the shoulders, right? Was just wondering if you had any thoughts/experience in that department?
      Cheers,
      Owen

    Love the Maxraps. Caught plenty of Bluefish 'Down Under' with them. They stopped stocking them down here, so I bought plenty on clearance sale and ordered some from EU.

      Probably because of the cost AJ :( it is not a cheap lure.

      @@TheFishingKit what leader would you use and how would you connect the main line and lure? Would you use a fluorocarbon leader with a snap swivel? Crimp a loop at the lure? Use wire? I was curious how you prevent biting off the lure yet still get bites. I heard kings have excellent eye sight. Thank you

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  Рік тому

      @@jimdrechsel3611 hi Jim, you can use a short wire trace, if i need to use a wire leader i put on no more than 6 inches. Flouro is good but i get away with mono and wire most times. I cast more than i troll these days and a lure that has a long body helps.

      @@TheFishingKit Can you help me with the following:
      I always done bait surf fishing ( from beaches) but never used lures for trolling from the beach ( casting in and reeling out using a spinning reel). I am now based in Japan. What lure should I use for this purpose. The fish maybe very small during the summer months but I want something versatile that anything will take it, and if I am lucky to hook something bigger, the lure will still do the trick? Tks

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 роки тому

      @@rohp1283 I think the easiest lure to start with would be a spoon - like a Kastmaster or clones of this lure. small jigs, such as jigpara from majorcraft also work very well - both are available in Japan. I think you need to look into your tackle if whatever you have can cast 10-20g lures. using braid helps with the distance and cuts down on the line being affected by wind and current.

    May I know the size and brand of the color green lure on this video? Do you use or recommend planer or diving board? TIA Sir!

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 роки тому +1

      It's a Rapala X-Rap Magnum 10. Planers and diving boards have their place, it depends on your type of fishing. If you are using deep diving lures, you can't use planers, the resistance of the lure will trip the planers.

  • @CurtisCooper
    @CurtisCooper 4 роки тому

    How can you tell the correct speed to get the diving lures at the maximum depth? If you go to fast, won't the lures run shallower?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  4 роки тому

      Very good Question and thanks for asking - Depends on a lot of things going on here Trucker, there's a lot of physics behind it really; line diameter is a big big factor, as is the distance between tip of your rod to the lure and the length or your rod as well - now remember that between you and the lure, there are quite a few things - swivel size, leader diameter, length of leader etc. All of these, including your line, create drag - which stops the lure from diving deep. There's also the sea itself - if you are going with the flow of the current or against it - The right speed on a properly tuned deep diving lure is almost always going to be around 5-7 knots. Some go faster, but all the factors mentioned above will affect its depth range. The fastest trolling plugs are shallow runners - probably around a meter or so below the surface, and they can go over 12 knots.

    Hi, I am going to move to the Philippines for retirement as soon as the virus calms down a bit. I’ll be getting a banca boat built and sending lots of tackle from Canada over. I don’t know what the fishing will be like but am hoping it will be good. Any comments or tips would be great as I don’t know what I’m in for.

    • @TheFishingKit

      Hi Rick, mostly trolling if you don't want to work a lot - otherwise, you can try jigging as well. There are a lot of Filipino fishing communities online that can help really, there are quite a few expat ones as well, or expats in those groups/pages.

    How long leader we need?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  3 роки тому

      This is a largely debated topic - and highly on the personal preference side, some people run a meter, some run less if toothy fish are around. I find myself using shorter leaders - about a foot of the thinnest wire for smaller lures and have about a 6 inch for bigger ones.

    Be prepared to buy a lot of lures if you use this on a power boat

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  3 роки тому

      I have used this on a power boat before using it on a kayak. If you do it right, with the twists, it won't unravel. But yes, if you go 20 knots using a lure that pulls like a 40 size CD Magnum...it won't hold. Best to stay around 4 knots like most people.
