Best Collection I've ever seen!! Every Insect was Amazing!! I am 16 years old and have been collecting Insects for only 3 years. I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and would love to visit your Insect Collection in Santa Fe! The Largest Insect we have here is probably the Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora Cecropia) with a wingspan of up to 6 inches. I absolutely loved the Preserved Spiders and Lepidoptera!! :[)
I always found insects extremely scary yet so fascinating... I can't get close to a living insect without having a really really bad time, but then I find myself spending my days watching theese videos thinking "wow, they are so cool"
Hi Oliver .....WOOOW ! Awesome .I remember you showed us ( Lone Eagle and Margie Waynee ) this awesome Bug Collection in Santa Fe. Very impressive ! We sure miss Santa Fe...
Amazing! What is you're process of preserving them? After catching Insects, I put them directly into warm water until they're killed. Sometimes they ready to spread within hours, but most of the time, it takes from 3 days to 2 weeks to soften in the water. But I have a different process with Lepidoptera in which I put in a killing jar until it's dead, then spread the wings. I agree, it is very hard work!
I'm from Brazil and I live beside a forest (actually, a reserve of tropical rainforest), and sometimes some weird bugs just come into my garden... If anyone that collect them want some, just tell me. I'll not sale them, I'll freely give them, if possible (I guess Brazil have ome laws about shipping bugs, but I'm not sure...
Hemipepsis is an oriental genus ,in USA live Pepsis. Here I see some of the worst boxes that I have ever seen,no data in the most specimens and very wrong way to mount Lepidoptera
Great how do you find the giant beetles I have been looking but can't find a dealer I have been buying things off Ebay I don't like killing insects and have been finding dead ones on car grills just curious if you could give me some pointers
How do you manage to pin the arachnids without worry of shriveling and having them fall apart? I've seen lots of articles stating soft bodied animals and arachnids should be preserved only in vials. I don't want to do this, I want to pin them. Please help me here I've found nothing on this subject.
my mantis, how can i get them not to rot? i cant figure out how to make sure hey dont rot, im trying to avoid stuffing them but if thats what if i need to ill do it but what is ur professional opinion?
@hoorayforolliewood That makes the two of us! I too have a passion for insects and insect collecting. I have such a long way to go though. lol. I can't wait to see more videos of your collection. Subbed!
I want to go! too bad i live 12 hours from it. At least it's somewhat doable for me. unrealistic but doable. very nice collection though! I really would love to see it one day!
***** NOO! I was THIS close, my brother went on a trip and I was originally going to go with him and we were going to stop here, but in the end I couldn't go with. One day I definitely will though!
how do you pin the big bugs. i just ordered a Goliathus albosignatus kirkianus so i need to know.I also need to know how to pin the nephila Sp i am also getting. Do you get your bugs from bioquip bugs.com, because if not, think about checking their website
you might be able to cut it open and put a few moth crystals in the abdomen. this is not likely to work but it is all i can think of. i have some stuffed specimens, they are not easy to prepare
Nice collection, however, as a systematic entomologist, the way you have pinned your butterflies and moths, and how you display your insects drives me crazy!
