    Great opportunity to change your wheel hubs if they were bad. Nice work as always. Like the new rotors and pads. They look awesome under those wheels.

    When I did mine i just cut off the dust shield's rim with an angle grinder and banged it with a hammer a few times to prevent it from rubbing.

    Recently, I had to change the passenger side half shaft. The Jack method didn't work, it broke my 18" breaker bar. I even got a 24" heavy duty breaker bar on it and a piece of pipe over the handle as a cheater bar. Ended up putting a smile in the breaker bar without the center nut moving any at all.
    I got out a "truck stop special" 12v impact wrench that my father-in-law gave us. After it hammered 9 or ten times, it broke free easily and spun right off.
    To the guy that put it on, f#@$ you very much, buddy!

    A suggestion, if to replace the disc brake heat shield you have to remove the hub, a long and complicated job, much better to leave the original one and cut the edges so that they do not touch with larger brake discs

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 роки тому +1

      Then you’ll get a ton of brake dust around everything in there. You can do it that way, and it’ll save you time, but I’d rather not deal with all of the dust!

    • @andreasimonepiazza4313

      @@AutoAutopsy Consider that the screen is not so much smaller in size, even on the Maptun online site with the upgrade kits they do not provide the screen and indicate to modify the existing one, furthermore the lip that is going to be cut does not cover the whole brake disc anyway but only part of it and I don't think it would make such a huge difference. If you then install larger brake kits such as Brembo's, they do not provide a larger screen in any case

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 роки тому

      I chose to do it the right way, you’re certainly entitled to do it how you want though.

    • @andreasimonepiazza4313
      @andreasimonepiazza4313 3 роки тому +1

      @@AutoAutopsy Of course, you are right, obviously it is always better to put the right pieces, but given the long and complicated work, cutting the edge lip is the simplest solution used by many.
      As mentioned, for oversized brake kits such as Brembo there are no screens, so either you cut the lip of the original one or remove it completely. If possible, maybe you can avoid cutting off the lip but sore it upwards making it flat and thus increasing the diameter of the screen by what is needed.

    What size discs are you taking off if you're putting 314 (yes, 314 not 315) on?
    When I changed my 302 for 314 I just cut my shields off completely as they were rusted and I wasn't about to disturb the bearings. You could cut the new shields in half and fit them then either weld back together or use bolted straps across the cut.
    I presume also that you do know dots and slots do nothing for braking performance, though they do give nice disc porn.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, took off 302 and replaced with 315. This is just the best way to do the dust shields I think, as it’s sandwiched with three bolts between the hub and car. And yeah, since I’m not tracking it the slots don’t provide much of a benefit, but like you said, they look good! ;)

  • @cosmosk8s
    @cosmosk8s 3 роки тому

    Been looking for slotted 314mm rotors didn’t know I could bump it up to a 315mm while keeping the same dust shield. Also struggle finding good pads for my 07’ Saab 93 aero convertible

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 роки тому

      I’d recommend EBC red stuff pads and you can get slotted rotors from R1 concepts. Installed 345 slotted rotors and EBC red stuffs on my turbo x here: ua-cam.com/video/NdTqZ-ZFrfY/v-deo.html

    My dad recommend the jack thing one time I was trying to break a stubborn nut free. Old school help helps lol. It a great trick!
    Other than the size difference is it a double piston caliper? I have a 2006 aero but my rotor are only 302mm. Is that only a turbo x setup? I'm looking to do a brake upgrade. I was looking at the brembo option but on carid the have a ton of wilwood options front and back fairly cheap

    • @rom1djib
      @rom1djib 4 роки тому

      302mm? Normaly you ve got 314mm on non turboX Aero v6...

    • @brandondorsey5064
      @brandondorsey5064 4 роки тому

      That's what I thought. It was a few trips to the parts store lol. On the caliper it was stamped 302mm it was hard to see at night with them being previously painted black. The dust shields fit the 302mm rotors. I was pretty confused on that.
      I'm not sure if they swapped them out before they sold it or what.
      I originally bought 314mm rotors and pads nothing matched up. The brake pad tabs wouldn't go into the caliper and the rotors hit the dust sheild.
      Thanks for the response

    • @rom1djib
      @rom1djib 4 роки тому

      You re right Brandon, it seems first Aero v6, until mid 2006 used "little" 302mm front brake... Bad, really bad... When i see how my 2006 with 314mm has not really good break, i can t imagine something worst...

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd 4 роки тому +2

      2006/7/8 Aeros came with 302. Change up to 314 - makes a huge difference, it's what I di on my 07 Aero. No not twin piston, but piston is bigger at 68mm (ilo 63), hence better braking (doesn't sound like much, but it's nearly 20% increase in piston area so 20% increase in braking for the same pedal force from your foot)

      Yep, what they said! Turbo X has these same calipers I put on, just bigger rotors (345mm)

    Further confirming the easy confusion of different brake sizes on the NG9-3. Your 04 ARC has the same front brake caliper as my 08 Aero, but my 05 ARC Vert has the next size smaller calipers on 302mm disks. Interesting.....
    Don't tell my vert, or she'll get disk-envy. Lol...

    Swapped: I got new hubs (Not sure I can type the brand name with women and children present)(current ones grinding), junk find axles, both clean/sound (previous ones stripped threads, tore boots changing stuff oops), and new dust plates (for the actual calipers/rotors.)
    Hot take: Broke down and paid junk yard staff addt'l $40 bribe to break axle from hub just to get access to the Aero front dust plates, those axle splines just Did. Not. Want. To. Break. Free.
    Aero calipers currently being held hostage in Mexico (funny story)
    Question: Did you have to change the master cylinder and ABS modules for this upgrade or is the default B207 parts good enough for the Aero brakes?

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 роки тому

      I would just order new dust shields; they'll cost you the same as what you paid that junkyard person to remove them lol. I didn't upgrade the master cylinder;I assume it's the same part for all 9-3's

    I'm needing to replace front left wheel hub on my 07 2.0T, (and on the fence on replacing axle whose nut threads were warped when we hit nut too hard with metal hammer) and last week saw a junkyard 06 Aero with all 4 calipers/dust shields in tact as well as both axles, and the mental gears of playing God went spinning, now that I see this video on will the 314mm fit on a 2.0T............

    So you upgrade the brakes of your 2.0t to the second best bolt on stock brakes for that car while you have a perfectly good set of THE best bolt on stock brakes sitting on a Turbo X next to it and that car is also going to get a brake upgrade ?
    Why not just buy the upgraded brakes for your TX and put it's old ones on your 2.0t ?
    Best value for money you can get if it's really a budget build, instead of buying bigger brakes twice (once per car).
    I have the 314mm NG9-3 Aero brakes too but on my -03 9-5 Aero which is an extreme upgrade for that car, so much better than the originals. But i also have a complete set of Turbo X brakes just collecting dust here as i just never tinker with my car anymore :/

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  4 роки тому

      The Turbo X doesn't need new brakes at the moment (or anytime soon) and I haven't fully committed or decided on a brake upgrade for the turbo x yet. I think you're missing the entire point
