68hrs.. that's about what I drive every week. The trick with Chicago traffic is to set GPS for avoid tolls. It takes you through traffic on the interstate but bypasses most of it. It looks slower because you'll be driving through stoplights, but at least your doing around 45 instead of stop and go.
Transmission overheated because we clogged the s**t out of it, especially in Chicago. Tailpipe was a bit rustier than we realized and departed the car shortly after we got to PA. If you are on 80west and see a shiny tailpipe on the shoulder, it’s a souvenir from us, you’re welcome.

Still shot car, 2 road cars, and one that was cut up for stage scenes. The cars were owned by Team Mitsubishi and leased to Warner Brothers for the movie. By the time Team Mitsu got the good ones back, the people involved had switched to a new sponsor. So the car sat in a barn for 18 years until I got it. Long story, but I still own it today.
What I would do in a cannonball run is a 81KW VW golf/passat turbo diesel estate 110 HP car. This engine is probably the most reliable engine in the world. Million miles engine! The fuel pressure from high pressure pump to combustion chamber is over 2000psi. That's why it atomizes fuel so good - It gets insane mileage. *Greetings from Lithuania* guys. Don't worry - These turbulence times won't affect you that much then they are us.

68hrs.. that's about what I drive every week. The trick with Chicago traffic is to set GPS for avoid tolls. It takes you through traffic on the interstate but bypasses most of it. It looks slower because you'll be driving through stoplights, but at least your doing around 45 instead of stop and go.
Insane run, amazing community too! Great to see it done in a Saab!
As an owner of a Saab 9-5, I’m happy and proud to see it featured as a Cannonball record breaker. It’s such an awesome car on the highway.
Would love to know about the transmission fault and whatever was going on with the exhaust.
Great stuff.
Transmission overheated because we clogged the s**t out of it, especially in Chicago. Tailpipe was a bit rustier than we realized and departed the car shortly after we got to PA. If you are on 80west and see a shiny tailpipe on the shoulder, it’s a souvenir from us, you’re welcome.
love cannonball stories, keep them coming!!
In a Saab, perfect. Nice run fellas.
Cheers 🇨🇦
A week or a decade it doesn’t matter. You had the record.
I've never heard of someone using a Saab for something like this..but I guess it worked...I had a buddy who had one.
Someday, I’m going to make this run!!
Bruh, we need to team up
I'm just waiting for another pandemic so people can go back inside to try >_>
@@CrackedCandy Any idea of a vehicle choice? I’ve got a great collection but not sure they’re CB cars.
@@racerboy2212 E63 AMG
Do it!
Awesome to see this crew tell the story of their record run! Legends! Now where do i send money for a mark Spence shirt?
Great to be in the same class as other legends like yourself sir!
"Achievement lights."
I figured for sure you'd mention the exhaust pipe as well.
Only so much time for the video 😂
Wanna travel confortably at 180kph on the german autobahn, carrying 3 people and a pet rabbit? Get a diesel 9-5 combi! SAAB lives on!
Way to go guys! You should be very proud of this run!
Proud of the accomplishment and the friendships it yields, thanks man!
I have a 2006 Saab 9-5 Aero fully loaded with Counter Measures.
I got 3 Saabs !!! I hope I could get a 04 aero and build it even more!!! Hopefully to show on my channel, there nice but when they break not so much 🥲
My adrenaline goes up when I’m listening to these cannonball stories.
*YES* SAAB represent!
Florida to Alaska should be the new challenge
How bout the entire Pan-American highway. Alaska to Argentina
Canadian stunt driving laws are killer though.
Man, this whole new job starting early is throwing off my vinwiki watching! Can't wait to watch this later
Where is your new job?
"I got down to 30 mph because there was 2 inches of snow on the Interstate".
Canada has left the chat.... 😁
Well they had go fast tires, not good snows. But hey, they got through it and didn't end up in the ditch
A morning coffee and vinwiki I love it
I’ve had a few 9-5’s and worked for Saab. Fast highway car, but I hope he put better brakes on this, they were awful. The older 9-5’s had a 3L V6 out of the Cadillac Catera, the 4 cyl turbos were better.
Saab 9-5 Aero is a great choice. Boosted 4-cylinder, fairly easy to get parts for (based on the GM Impala platform), totally unassuming looks.
The impala did not have the same engine as the Saab 9-5
@@Saab9-3PDX I know, but the chassis is. The engine eventually came to the U.S. as the LSJ, used in the Cobalt SS and Ion Redline with a blower instead of a turbo. My Redline has "Saab" stamped on the oil pan still.
@@JeffHendricks Hm...I wonder if it could handle twincharging, then, since it has parts support for both a blower *and* a turbo.
@@MishraArtificer It's been done, yes. There are guys making 500+ HP on these engines with big turbo swaps!
@@JeffHendricks no the one your talking about is the 9-3 ng from 2003-2012 2.0t that’s a LSJ, the 9-5 has a 2.3 all the way from the 90’s to 2010 where they replaced it with a 2.8t v6 turbo, the 9-5 chassis i think is shared with a vectra I think.
I had a 95 Aero great car. Mine was a manual transmission.
What an awesome experience. amazing country. fires and snow on the same run.
95 Aero is such a great car choice. Awesome! Only issue is turbo lag, but that should be an issue on Cannonball!
I enjoyed the editing on this cutting between the 3 people for a seemless storyline
Every time I see one of those on the road (not very often) I always yell "SAABARU!!"
That’s the Saab 93x
13:02 how was THAT not the video's opening line?! 😂
All these stories over the years around and about cannonball brought a real enthusiast out of me. my own personal cannonball run is the only reason it is worth to me to go to the US.
these stories are always entertaining, gotta love vinwiki
I've owned multiple SAABs since I started driving, my last car ran 13.# second quarter miles and would embarrass mustangs in street races, it's really cool to see this build! I enjoyed the video, but the "includes paid promotion" bubble was quite annoying.
YT makes channels put the bubble on if the video is sponsored or contains a sponsor segment I’m afraid 😧
That's awesome. I couldn't think about doing something like that. Someone was just telling me that the times during the lockdowns were the best, but I haven't researched that.
I do own the black '83 Mitsubishi Starion from the movie Cannonball Run II. The actual car from the movie. There were 4 cars used.
Nice to see the Saab getting some love.
I think one of these guys still holds the Diesel Cannonball record in a Passat diesel sedan. (The wagon was rare as hen's teeth here, even without the diesel engine.)
@@MishraArtificer I'll look in to this even though I am in europe but cannonball it's my little thing
I work for the Colorado Department of Transportation in Glenwood Springs. I was working traffic control for the big fire in 2020, and we had the road closed for a little over one month.... lol of I would've known about your attempt. I could've escorted you through and told them that it was a life or death emergency. You'd be surprised how much e do that during major road closers. And yes, the detour that e have to send people on absolutely sucks to drive. Sorry for that guys...... you can thank the jackass that tossed his cigarette out the window.
Can I message you somewhere like on Instagram?
@@EA40 who are you?
@@kennylewis8752 let's just say one of the current Cannonball record holders in the S6 knows exactly who I am. And so do some people I did Gumball with :)
