@@BrennaUrbangirl Paramount/CBS looked the other way for years and years until Axanar came along, and it wasn't about production values - look at Star Trek Continues - that was studio quality production! So why did it change with Axanar? Because they crossed the line and forced the issue; they were paying themselves a salary earned from the Star Trek IP and building themselves a nice studio from money earned on the ST IP to make future non-ST productions. If Paramount/CBS had let that go they would likely have lost all control over their own IP . Axanar's over-reach ruined it for great productions like Star Trek Continues etc. The fact that they settled out of court showed they knew they hadn't a leg to stand on and now the whole fan production community has these dreadful guidelines to work with. Let's hope it is as SpearM75503 says and Paramount/CBS will be willing to look the other way for most productions as they had done for many, many years before Axanar.
Zoppie....I happened to be reading the credits and noticed that it was original music. I was VERY impressed because it was just very Star Trek-y sounding and blended nicely! So much so, that I didn't even notice it. Gold star to whoever's in charge of the music!
The sets look fantastic. And the FX were also spot on. I liked the Mason character. Kinda cool having a captain who has a sense of humor and doesn't take himself too seriously. And making the story a sequel of an actual TOS episode was a great idea.
Absolutely fantastic, never thought I'd see the day zombies would fit in the Star Trek Universe but you folks pulled it off with a beautifully well done story, would love to see USS Excalibur NCC-1705 continue as a Fan Series, well done job all involved, Vance Major Owen and Leslie great jobs as well my friends
Technically we've seen the zombie idea portrayed in Enterprise, Season 3, and that was an official episode too. I can't remember exactly which episode it was, but I know it was where T'Pol started to lose control of her emotions, and featured a D'Kyr class Vulcan cruiser filled with what were essentially Vulcan zombies
Love the "dad jokes", that type of campy humor was just what I needed today. I think it matched more of the spirit of TOS more than anything else to date.
Yeah CBS are afraid anyone else make better movies, btw since all fan films are not made for profit its an asshole move to do what they did. I wonder if the lawsuit was only made for the USA
@@Corvus__ In total. This is good for a fanfic film but the original enterprise didn't have a system to put forcefields over the breaches. The engineer would have to use a life support belt to enter the areas and install forcefields. They would have sealed off areas with bulkhead. To bad that [CBS F/A] doesn't get it that fans are the drive. CBS full access could have millions of subscribers. If they had stuff like this fine work . good job.
No CBS All Access would not have millions of subscribers even if they returned to the core ST premise that Gene Roddenberry put in place with TOS. There are a few people such as myself that refuse to pay for yet another subscription service. I already pay for Netflix, for just one show. Everyone outside the US got Discovery on Netflix, why they couldn't just release Discovery on Netflix in the US I have no idea. This is the same reason I will not be subscribing to Disney's streaming service when they release the Star Wars Rogue One spin-off TV series.

Star Trek: Discovery’ Launch Drives A Record Number Of New CBS All Access Subscribers By Claire Spellberg @c_spellbergSep 25, 2017 at 2:09pm Last night, CBS All Access‘ newest show, Star Trek: Discovery, premiered on the subscription streaming platform to record numbers. A CBS press release states that its service “broke a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, eclipsing the previous record held by the 2017 Grammy Awards.” (Worth noting: The network did not include any specific figures or statistics in their press release, so we don’t know if this means they signed up hundreds, thousands, or even millions of new subscribers.) The service not only beat its single-day record with the launch of Star Trek: Discovery, it also experienced its best week and month for sign-ups, largely due to the popularity of the Star Trek franchise and the start of the NFL season. SEE ALSO What Is CBS All Access? How To Watch 'Star Trek: Discovery' Rather than consider its Star Trek success a one-off, CBS is doubling down on content and launching an after-show titled After Trek. The show will be hosted by Matt Mira, a popular podcast host, and will be broadcast live at 9:30 pm ET each Sunday after new episodes of Star Trek: Discoverybecome available on demand at 8:30 pm. If you’re a Star Trek junkie, you can get CBS All Access for as low as $5.99/month (or $9.99/month if you don’t want commercials). For those looking for something in addition to space exploration, CBS All Access also offers thousands of episodes of CBS classics, live TV options, and plenty of on-demand movies.
As a long-time fan of Star Trek I have to say in the 52 years it's been around I've been a fan for 41 years, I'd have to say this was a very nice storyline and it brings a conclusion to the story of what happened to the disabled Starship Excalibur from the Federation Fleet that fought the M5 which was aboard the USS Enterprise in the episode ultimate computer from the original series I have to say one of my favorite episodes from the original series as most true fans of the show are aware the other three Starships the Lexington the hood and the potemkin if I'm not mistaken though badly damaged were able to return to base after the M5 incident except for the Excalibur the storyline finally shows how they were able to bring the Lost Starship and her crew home. This was a very nicely done storyline and it's way BETTER than star trek discovery.
You really should check out Star Trek Continues, Vic Mignona (sorry for misspelling his name) drove the best TOS episodes, he wanted to film the last stories from the "five year mission" that were never done, he managed to bring quality and even some pretty major Trek/SF actors on board. The first episodes were fairly rough, but they settled in really well, and he even managed to tie in visually and story-wise with Star Trek The Motion(less) Picture, uniforms and all.

This was just a fantastic production. I felt like a kid watching TOS on NBC for the first time again. Guess it just shows, you can go back....... Congrats, I've never seem any Fan Film that was of this caliber ever. Not sure how you were able to pull the funding for a production heavy 30 minute short like this but it was so very worth it. Fan Forever!!! CBS BE DAMNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually felt like I was watching a whole hour's TOS Episode from all the rich character, dialogue, and SPIRIT in these 2 segments, but in my own lifetime (I'm a mid 70s baby). However you did it, PLEEEASE do it again!
I decided to go back and read through the comments and even though some of the criticism had merit, the general concurrence is that people/fans like what you are doing. Folks who like STOS and the original timeline are starved for content. Fans need heroes & heroins and with some minor work you all can make this series something to be proud of as well as set new cannon in the updated STOS for the Excalibur & her crew. Your cast just needs some time to hone their characters and I believe that they will be fine regardless of some of the criticisms/constructive criticisms. Thank you again for sharing your passion with us!
OMG this is awesome. THIS is what should be on CBS! This is the third episode of yours that I've watched in a row since stumbling upon it. The plot, the banter with the crew, ah man this takes me back to watching original Trek in syndication back in the 80s. Love it!
A wonderful little fan film. You certainly deserve all the praise you're going to get for it, and I think everyone involved should be pleased with their work! That said, I'd like to offer some thoughts on what didn't work. Please keep in mind these comments are meant constructively, coming from someone who overall enjoyed the production. BUT... I want to see you do more, and do it better, and so this is made in the spirit of what I hope will be useful commentary... The first thing that strikes me is that Mason is attacked by a zombie, beats it back, and then is called to engineering by Archer. At no point does Mason say, "THIS SHIP IS FULL OF ZOMBIES!" He replies calmly that he is coming down, and doesn't at all mention what happened. There's no way he wouldn't be screaming about that over coms after it happened. Later, mention is made of venting energy through the nacelles. As one of them is missing, that should have been something like, "We can vent it through the REMAINING nacelle." Almost makes me think that it wasn't until after principal photography that someone in SFX decided to cut a nacelle off. Still, little things like that take you out of the moment. The section with the movie quotes.... I'm sorry, that was just awful. Aside from the fact it referenced movies people are unlikely to have seen a couple of centuries from now, the delivery was just horrible. Acting isn't easy. A good fan production is lucky to have all involved pull of the delivery of serious lines, but comedy is even harder. That part just really feel flat. Humor is very difficult to write, and act... maybe tone it down on the next production. The last quibble is the phaser fire. The SFX team did they best they could, but the actors were frequently waving their phasers about, and the SFX had to compensate for that. They did a good job, but it really didn't feel like Trek there. Canon Trek productions almost always have officers holding the phaser steady for the duration of a shot. It's easier on the FX team, and it makes it look like they are firing with authority, and not desperation. Again, these are comments made by someone who liked what you did, and hopes to see more. I'm not quibbling to be a jerk, or nit-picking just to be negative. I'm saying this because praise is great to have, but only serious commentary helps one do better the next time.
Shank, Disclaimer: I am only an actor in this production, not a member of the production team. Any opinions expressed by me are solely my own and do not necessarily reflect those of the controlling entities of this film. Now that we got that outta the way... Thanks for all the feedback! I’m Tyler Dunivan, I play Commander Derek Mason. On using 20th/21st century pop culture references: The humorous tone in this film is meant to be similar to that of “The Orville”, in which the Captain talks about Kermit the Frog, crew members Karaoke to “Any Way You Want It” by Journey and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, and a Klingon type character eats ice cream as “comfort food” while watching a scene from “The Sound of Music”. In Babylon 5, the Chief Security Officer had a poster of Daffy Duck on the wall in his quarters and is shown introducing an alien ambassador to the tradition of eating popcorn while watching a movie. Pulling back on the humor for future productions would be untrue to the production team’s vision (I don’t necessarily speak for them, just my own assessment) of telling engaging adventure stories with a bit of drama, while making the audience laugh by not taking it too seriously. Please try to enjoy it for what it is. Thank you again for the extensive commentary. You said you only take time on things you care about, and that’s a huge compliment. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the next one!
Wonderful fan film, especially working within the CBS's draconian rules. There were a couple of plot holes that could not be filled with such restraints, but overall a very good film. Too bad I could not have found it before Halloween.
@@sphinxrising1129 "other people's property" doesn't derive its value from *decades of fans' hard work*. If it was left up to the corporate "owners" Star Trek would never have survived to its very first syndication, nobody would ever have heard of it, and its current value would be zero. Every person making a good living from Star Trek is doing so on the backs of fans' free labor. Comparisons to "other people's property" prove nothing except that you're too lazy to do your homework before you open your mouth... and accomplishes nothing but losing the respect of everyone within the reach of your voice.

Ya know, I liked it. Wasn't sure I would, but it held to the spirit of the original. I actually find myself wanting to see more of this crew.
I wanted to comment on the music. Totally original, yet it feels VERY Trekky. Great job!
zoppie , I fully and wholeheartedly concur! Thanks to the incredible talent of Nicholas McFarland, the music made the show!
I also said as much on the first episode but I’ll “me too” this comment 😀
I love it 😍😍😍😍
Zoppie....I happened to be reading the credits and noticed that it was original music.
Thank you Larry!
This is a sleeper everyone should know about. omg. i loved it!
Damn I got totally immersed in this ... Music was perfect .... Special effects were - out of this world (scuse pun lol). Now I want more :)
Thank you! I'll pass the praise along to our composer, Nicholas McFarland. 😊 Hope you'll stick around for future adventures!
Thanks for the reply Victoria, & yes I will deinately be keeping my eye out for future material :)
@@phantomactual8916 Thank you, last year I was kindly informed of the episodes and re-watched them, an Enterprise NX-01 episode and a TOS episode
Love the "dad jokes", that type of campy humor was just what I needed today. I think it matched more of the spirit of TOS more than anything else to date.
Excellent again. It felt more and more like a STOS episode as it went along... with some extra quirky humour :-)
Indeed, hope we get more of these
@@MapleDog The guidelines CBS put out regarding Fan Films limits to two 15 minute episodes total, no more. They can't do more or CBS could sue them.
Annually?
Yeah CBS are afraid anyone else make better movies, btw since all fan films are not made for profit its an asshole move to do what they did.
I wonder if the lawsuit was only made for the USA

In total. This is good for a fanfic film but the original enterprise didn't have a system to put forcefields over the breaches. The engineer would have to use a life support belt to enter the areas and install forcefields. They would have sealed off areas with bulkhead. The Enterprise A would have been one of the first active ships to have it.
For what you are you have done really well . I especially liked the instant make over as the shuttle moved past 9/10 Captain
Excellent. The story kept my attention from beginning to end. Live long and prosper.
Dandelion Down thank you!
Loved it! Great gag about doing an EVA in gogo boots and a mini skirt! I hope you can somehow make more. Wonderful quality work everyone.
Excellent fan 🎥!!!!!!!! A nice piece of Star Trek lore!!!!!! USS Excalibur. Was an excellent choice because of it's history and the legendary sword for which it was named!!!!!! It was also cool to see Captain Archer had family to descend him!!!!
Not too bad people.. It really captured the feel of the TOS while still having the hokey fun of a fan film. I would love to see more!
Breanna Lynn, you are welcome to not pay if you choose, but CBS ALREADY has millions of subscribers just for STD alone.
Andy Tay they really don’t.

Star Trek: Discovery’ Launch Drives A Record Number Of New CBS All Access Subscribers
By Claire Spellberg @c_spellbergSep 25, 2017 at 2:09pm
Last night, CBS All Access‘ newest show, Star Trek: Discovery, premiered on the subscription streaming platform to record numbers. A CBS press release states that its service “broke a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, eclipsing the previous record held by the 2017 Grammy Awards.” (Worth noting: The network did not include any specific figures or statistics in their press release, so we don’t know if this means they signed up hundreds, thousands, or even millions of new subscribers.)
The service not only beat its single-day record with the launch of Star Trek: Discovery, it also experienced its best week and month for sign-ups, largely due to the popularity of the Star Trek franchise and the start of the NFL season.

Rather than consider its Star Trek success a one-off, CBS is doubling down on content and launching an after-show titled After Trek.
Well Done! It brings back the spirit of the original Star Trek! Thank you!
I have to say all that had to be said!

@@captainnerd6452 as I understand it they're using the same sets where STC was filmed, an appearance from Vic would be brilliant.

He's got plenty of time. He got fired from all his anime jobs and one video game. Accusations of sexual abuse were made but no evidence was produced by any of the victims or they were claims without merit. A teenage girl feeling creepy after receiving a hug and a kiss after getting an autograph. Females being hugged without first asking consent is a sexual assault since "silence is not consent most 20 to 30 years ago. It was a different time and to retroactively apply current standards.
you kept the true spirit of Star Trek Alive....thank you. need to see more.
I love how you tied this episode in with "The Ultimate Computer" from the Original Series. Since CBS is giving us nothing but crap with their STD, it is great that someone is delivering what the fans have been asking for.
I raised an eyebrow at the movie quotes when they popped up, but "Just finding the humor in our own impending deaths" cleared that up nicely. Very well done and I look forward to more ^_^
Well done all! Really loved the ending.
"Oh, yeah, forgot to tell you I got attacked by a dead crew member down in auxiliary control. It just didn't seem worth mentioning..." 😱😝😆🤣🥺
Kidding aside this really captures the good old sci-fi spirit.
Damn.. a sexy tall leggy hot female engineer, Scotty would be in love... with both! The ship 1st then the engineer : )
Both women are very attractive, however I lean more towards the science officer.

Omg even the corniness of this MOST EXCELLENT fan film is better than anything we've had since Enterprise went off the air. Great Job!!!
Just finished part one. I would watch these actors in a series. This is great! Loved the off the cuff humor. This IS Star Trek.
That was AWESOME! It's how Star Trek should be! 10 out of 10!
You guys did a great job on this! This was not only a great followup story to "The Ultimate Computer", but it came out just in time to be a great Halloween-themed episode! It's also nice to see the STC sets live on in other productions. I hope you keep going!
Cool second half!
I didn't notice the captain's resemblance to Marty McFly until it was mentioned in a comment in the first half comments. :-)
I am liking your little video series. Keep up the good work. And the uniforms are nice as well.
Loved the movie lines! I was skeptical when I saw Zombies but the use of them made sense to the story. Well done!
More lore friendly than STD even if it was meant to be a little tongue in cheek.
Damn! That was GOOD. Far better than the majority of what we see produced by the “pros”. More please.
Great job. Please make more
Good job guys, and gals. Boldly go.
The captain looks like Michael J. Fox. Star Trek To The Future!

It's Death Jim but not as we know it...
Great work! Thanks for the trek episode! Sets, uniforms and actors were awesome!
I enjoyed this. I always wondered how they would do a zombie story in trek. 10/10
Part Gene Roddenberry, part George Romero I love it!
Thank you sir! And I've met both Rod Roddenberry and George Romero haha.
OMG this is awesome. THIS is what should be on CBS! This is the third episode of yours that I've watched in a row since stumbling upon it. The plot, the banter with the crew, ah man this takes me back to watching original Trek in syndication back in the 80s. Love it!
The fight was so cheesy, that it was really good. :D

So hungry for good Star Trek. Thank you thank you
A wonderful little fan film.
Shank thank you for your comments. This is our first film.
@@avalonuniverse6327 And believe me, I want to see more from you guys. I only make long comments like this to things I care about!

Shank,
Disclaimer: I am only an actor in this production, not a member of the production team.

*Wonderful fan film, especially working within the CBS's draconian rules*
^Basically this!
Draconian rules? You'll have that when you seek to use other people's property, duh.
