Just a couple of issues. I disliked the first officer from the outset when she said, "Your ship?" To the Captain. Probably a result of writers not understanding anything about military culture. That was a direct assault on the authority of the ship's captain. She should have been taken down a notch immediately.
WOW!!!! That may be the best Star Trek I've seen in decades. I was thinking that just before the credits rolled. Then I saw Vic Mignogna was involved and saw part of why. I'd really enjoyed Star Trek Continues, and that (along with Axanar and the rest of the Avalon Universe shows) had been REAL Star Trek for me, not the corporate stuff of the last 15 years or so. Wow though. That was visually beautiful, acted superbly, and riveting and heartbreaking. The final information about the Cherokee and it's part in the failed peace mission were, to use a phrase that is entirely appropriate, "Fascinating". THANK YOU for keeping the true Spirit of Star Trek alive!!!!!
I sit here stunned by what I just saw. This is perhaps the most amazing fan film I've seen to date. To say well done to everyone involved just seems inadequate because well, it is. Everything about it was simply perfect.
@@alvermette218 I was used to starship crews finding a last nanosecond way out of situations that I thought that maybe they would do the same. The emotional impact of ramming the Klingon ship does not lessen with rewatching. Vic's closing credit music was just incredible.
This is an absolute fantastic video. 23:02 time of total amazement. The actors are on queue. Relatable. Loveable. Vic Mignogna as a Klingon... excellent addition. Glad to see him in action again after Star Trek Continues. The ending was a breath taking moment. I've rewatched this countless times. Good work. I'm proud of you all and privaliged to have found this gem of entertainment. Love you all and thanks for your contribution to the Star Trek Universe. Absoltuely amazing.
I think that each member of the cast in this production each deserve a commendation for meritorious performance noted in their file. Also, the exterior shots and effects are just freaking GORGEOUS. They even have the shields that are tight against the hull instead the bubble type that was used in the 90s and earlier shows.
Just Wow. That was amazing. It's fan films such as these, so well acted and produced, that deserve to be in canon Trek. It's so good that it would have been fitting to be shown in Star Trek: Short Treks, like how it should have actually been done to expand the Trek universe. I don't know how you are able to screw up an anthology series, but these types of films, done by FANS, are miles better than what we gotten from that.
Wow, this episode was so unexpected. I had no idea what was happening or where the episode was going. But that ending.... so somber and moving. Well done, well done. This episode was impressive and the music selection was so good. One of the best Star Trek fan episodes anywhere.
TOTALLY UNEXPECTED! I have to admit I sat in stunned silence for a few moments at the end. Very well done!! Here is to the crew of the Cherokee. SALUTE!
War is hell; even when it's a cold one! ... And casualties are incurred no less costly and tragically. Such is the nature of sentient conflict. Unofficially, the crew of the U.S.S. Cherokee died in the line of duty; having given their full measure, in service to the Federation. . . . This was certainly an unexpected ending to an unexpected chain of events. It was a fast-pacing episode, and certainly heartbreaking, but a ground breaking episode for the folks at Avalon and Neutral. I feel like mourning. Congratulations. 💔
I could not agree more with everything you said. Especially about feeling like mourning. What impressed me is how quickly this story got me to care about characters I'd never seen before with no hint of the fate of the Cherokee and those who serve aboard her. So when I rewatch this and I have several times already, one is very quickly struck by the tragedy to come and the feeling the ending creates does not lessen. If this had been a web series like the glorious Star Trek Continues, we could have gotten to see a very fine crew and gone on awesome adventures with them. First Officer Karinski was definitely captain material. As much as I'd love to see a web series with the Starship Cherokee, not getting to see their five year mission only makes this story all the more powerful.
@gabesantiago3074 I think you misunderstand me slightly. When I say I could not agree more, I'm saying I agree with you completely, if I had been saying that I could not agree less, then I would have been disagreeing you. We're actually on the same page.
Folks - that was a really ambitious swing. It's hard to tell an innovative story in 23 minutes, with clear direction, heading to an emotional payoff - but you did a great job. Yes, there are a few rough edges, but I think you should all be proud of this. Well done!
This was a great story. Didn’t see that coming. Loved the sets as they are truly vintage TOS. Great exterior shots. I’m crushing on the first officer as well. Kudos to all involved in this production.
Damn! This was such a Brilliant & Sad story! Well done to everyone involved in the production,R.i.P to the crew of the USS Cherokee,"We barely Got to Know,Her"
Wonderful Episode. It was extremely satisfying to watch a Star Trek show that brought back memories of the way sci fi was done more than half a century ago. It is incredible that a full and refreshing story was achieved in such a short episode.

That was really, really good. Some of the better acting in a Trek fan film, good special effects, and characters acting with understandable motivations.
Great special effects, the believability of the individual characters and the overall plot was POWERFUL! 50+ yr. Star Trek fan, 1st time comment, Outstanding Job. Well done.
Fabulous! What a poignant ending! Love the fact that I didn't even notice that Vic played Ja'Drok til the credits. What a wimpy voice, almost Ferengi-like. He had to work really hard to go unnoticed like that, and such humility to play the lowest of the low.
Absolutely SUPERB! Even with that brief segment around the 15 minute mark, I never saw that ending coming. Very well done; well written and well acted. This is a tale I will remember. 2 thumbs up; if I had more thumbs I'd up them.👍👍👍

@@skipmorrisAs mentioned by another commenter already, it would be glorious if y'all could create some prequel stories for the USS Cherokee and this cast. 🙏
Wow! Glad to see a new breed of fan films, similar to Star Trek Continues, is back. I'm not going to debate the official TV shows that are currently on the air. Some people enjoy them and some don't and that's ok. But, I enjoy the fan films which stick to the canon we established during the TOS era and I'm glad someone is expanding on it once again.
An excellent and moving example of the darker side of Startrek, where heroism and devotion to duty do not guarantee personal survival,or even a record of such sacrifice. A very real reminder that many such sacrifices have been made in our world. They deserve the highest Honour.
I love this fan film! The acting was superb, and even the banter was pulled off naturally and didn't feel awkward like it can do with some fan films. The actors and production crew are amazing, this could have been filmed as a parallel series to TOS, it's that good! SPOILER: I was starting to really like the characters and now you've killed them off. Do I laugh or cry? Please bring them back. ST rarely has a sad ending, so that was a most unexpected twist. There's a lot to take in as the story telling, sets, CGI, costumes, acting, etc, is so polished, then the bombshell at the end! Wow! Congratulations Avalon Universe, this was an incredible production. (I'm cautious about saying it was a truly professional production in case CBS raise their eyebrows!)
Excellent! Great writing, acting, SFX, editing, costuming... Great job all around. Not that other films from the Avalon universe were bad, but this one really took me aback with the quality.

What a fantastic film! The sets were insanely good and could have been taken straight from the original series. This grounded the film as it was immediately familiar. The tone was exactly how I remembered the OS, how they used to switch from levity to serious in a beat. The writing was good and despite having several characters, all of them were adequately serviced. Well done to everyone involved.
Geez... that was something else. I sat here at the end, just watching my screen in disbelief. This is EXTREMELY well done. My congratulations and sincere appreciation to all involved.
Simply perfect! A well written story! Goods stories don't need high costs! I hope you bring more little gems like this one! Congrats to everyone there!
This is a very good tale. It is just a reminder space can be dangerous and filled with alien enemies fighting for their own protection and resources for their way of life.
Great acting and great story! But the epilogue got me to thinking about something Picard said. Picard said "The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based. And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform!". The coverup of the ultimate sacrifice of the USS Cherokee goes against the "truth"! Star Fleet said it was to prevent a war, but was it really to cover up the "embarrassment" of Star Fleet being tricked by the Romulans? OK, enough "theory crafting"! Well done everyone!!!
Ah, I remember Picard saying that and in others moments telling the hard truth. My own comment touched on the same issue though from the "It is harder to lie then tell the truth" approach. No lie is perfect and can be felt so it is eventually uncovered. Then, by that time the damage can be even worse. This was a good film and I hope they do more.
An interesting conundrum. What is more important? The truth, or preventing a war? Is lying about the fate of 430 Starfleet officers and crewmen, worse than a war that would kill millions?
Great job !!!!! Vic returns fan film story and casting back to the quality of Star Trek continues what a dark story great surprise and Vic plays Klingon first officer !!!! Kudos
Excellent! Seemingly obvious plot that weaves a more intricate subplot seamlessly into the dialogue. Plus it waw fun to see Vic Mignogna as the Klingon officer. Well done!
I am not quite as enamored of this as others seem to be, but for Trek it was pretty decent, and as a fan film, outstanding. That was not 23 minutes of my life I'll never get back. It was 23 minutes of a good story well told, and well worth watching.
Ouch, a real kick in the feels. Especially the faded down b&w with the epilogue. I was enjoying the slow burn of the plot, the character development, and the attention to detail in all aspects of the production and then BOOM! The ending hit home. Well done to all involved.
It's hard to do, because I've lived for over 60 years. But I have to say, I'm impressed with this short film. Congratulations on the imagination, and a great story.
Fantastic story line. And having been an ex Marine. This is how the military does things they want kept secret. My father wasn't the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. And he remembers the CIA coming on board to tell them , that if anyone talks, they'll make sure they disappear. So my father never told us anything till he was nearly seventy. The CIA scared him that bad. And he was a golden glove boxer and was a Bandito, till he left them when he was still young to make sure me and my brother were raised right. He wasn't scared of anything. But the CIA sure did the trick.
I love those insignia patches! And oh, what a complicated mystery the crew of the Cherokee had to solve -- and whoa, that ending! To completely write off an entire starship?! I'm glad the crew got recognized, but damn! That is some serious business to erase a ship from history.
This has everything nuTrek does not. Professionalism, intelligence, and excellence among the officers and crew, respect for regulations and chain of command and yet an understanding that these structures exist to serve a higher purpose which must take priority, and a desire for peace and aversion to violence that speaks of a profound respect for all life. And yet, when there is no other choice, they are willing to grit their teeth and do what must be done to save innocent lives even at the cost of their own. This is what heroism looks like. And this is what real Star Trek looks like.
I'm still stunned from this episode. Its one of those stories that should go into Cannon. The events that brought everything to the brink of war and are snded in an instant. Very well done!
The other night Strange New Worlds episodes one and two were on CBS. I recorded them both and decided to give it a try. I barely got through the first episode and deleted the second. This was not Star Trek. It was science fiction. What I just watched here was Star Trek. It had the look of Star Trek, the acting and writing were very well done. I'm subscribed! 🖖
❤ You guys did an excellent job. The story line was very well. Thought out and the special effects !!! and the acting was excellent. You guys should be very proud of yourselves.
I’m back for my 2nd 3rd and 4th plus views of this masterpiece of art. Thank you for keeping it posted. ❤salute all involved. P.S. I still want more I still won’t spoil it WOW it’s good!
Incredibly well done! Unlike most short fan films, you had me caring about the characters before the end. Great in-universe stuff exploring a potential early use of Romulan memory probes / mental controls, just as TOS did the early cloaking device. and a great take off on the Klingon trying to stop an early romulan peace treaty just as the romulans try to disrupt the klingon peace in that TNG episode with geordi and the brain washing / modified visor. the acting was even ok. the actor playing the captain was even doing a pretty good shatner. had me guessing, imposter, mind meld? I was totally afraid when they got in the briefing room the first time the whole episode would end up being like a trial, but you kept it moving and even managed to get in some action into what's an unfortunately low limit from the fan film rules. well done!
Wow that was truly epic. So well done on every level, thanks to all involved. It would be a shame to let such great characters and cast go to waste, what better way to honor Cherokee and her crew than to feature more stories of their exploits leading up to this point? Again, thank you for such an incredible story! 👍👍🖖🖖

Love the Captain's quick thinking. He even looks like Captain Sheridan from Babylon 5 and they both have the same countenance. If there's going to be a Babylon 5 fanfilm he'll be perfect to play as Captain Sheridan.
One of the reasons why this is so so good, is the casting is superb. You got the right people for the right roles, and they played those roles well.

Well done!
Wow, what a terrific movie! Well done, writers, cast, and crew!!
I am not quite as enamored of this as others seem to be, but for Trek it was pretty decent, and as a fan film, outstanding. That was not 23 minutes of my life I'll never get back. It was 23 minutes of a good story well told, and well worth watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ouch, a real kick in the feels. Especially the faded down b&w with the epilogue. I was enjoying the slow burn of the plot, the character development, and the attention to detail in all aspects of the production and then BOOM! The ending hit home. Well done to all involved.
Always thought the Romulan bird of prey with that cool bird wings on the bottom were so cool. My favorite model to build as a kid.
One of the best episodes yet!
AGREED.
EXCELLENT presentation ! Its good to see Vic Mignona's hand in more S-T Fan-Fic !
WOW...Great story. This one is worthy of Star Trek. Great Job for all cast and special effects people.
I love those insignia patches! And oh, what a complicated mystery the crew of the Cherokee had to solve -- and whoa, that ending! To completely write off an entire starship?! I'm glad the crew got recognized, but damn! That is some serious business to erase a ship from history.
NICE RIGHT...😎✌
Erased, but the only chance to avoid war and reveal the truth. Debris will be found.
That was fantastic! Most original story I've seen in a long time. Thank you and great job.
This is what happens when you have people who know and understand the property they're working on.
And when you don't have the captain feeding the senior staff every 5 minutes!!
Wow, I can't usually watch most fan films, but that was brilliant in every way. Thankyou.
I'm still stunned from this episode. Its one of those stories that should go into Cannon. The events that brought everything to the brink of war and are snded in an instant. Very well done!
A top-notch episode!! The ending was a surprise. Congratulations on excellent production!! LLAP
Fine photography work using TOS hallmark camera angles, great special effects and a surprising story line. Super job!
What an interesting take. Great original story! Well done. And Alison Williams is a honey...
I’m back for my 2nd 3rd and 4th plus views of this masterpiece of art.
Thank you for keeping it posted. ❤salute all involved.
P.S.
I still want more
I still won’t spoil it
WOW it’s good!
Wow! Great little fan film! Felt like it was shot back in the day! Great use of sets and great lighting! Love the tracking shots also! VERY cool stuff! Effects rock my world! Shout out to Ray and company! Keep them coming!
Very well done indeed! Interesting story and some very impressive acting!!! Thanks to all for a super effort!!!
WOW. What a surprise ending. Excellent storyline.
great episode, everything was so very well done. even on Star Trek not every day can end with a happy one.
More and deeper Star Trek in half an hour, than STD and STOP and whatever the last three movies were, had in them combined.
Love the Captain's quick thinking. He even looks like Captain Sheridan from Babylon 5 and they both have the same countenance.
If there's going to be a Babylon 5 fanfilm he'll be perfect to play as Captain Sheridan.
