  • In this Tutorial, I show you the drills I use to prepare my body to utilize my flexibility to kick at a very high level. If you can do a split but cannot control or throw your kicks at a 180 degree level then these drills are what you need.

    I have been training since 1985 in Tae Kwon do in the UK. I thought I was a pretty good kicker and knew all the exercises to improve it but you've just given me literally dozens of new things to try. I am inspired anew. Thank you Master Scher.

    This is on of the best Videos I've seen, It doesn't include Frequency or reps but it gives you a lot of material to build your own program, I do Kyokushin in a competition level for 2 years now and do have a thicker build (heavyweigth division 90+kg) so im stiffer than ligther guys so I wonder if this would work for me?

    • @SimonScher
      @SimonScher  8 років тому

      Thanks so much! No matter how large or muscular you are you can still be very flexible. Check out a guy on instagram @jujimufu. For reps I recommend performing as many as you can until you are very sore. Then stop. When that number no longer makes you sore increase the number. I have a stretching tutorial on this channel if you are looking for a good routine. Good luck in your competition!

      @SimonScher  8 років тому

      I recommend for frequency you do as often as you can. and for reps until you are too sore to keep going. then when you can do it again, do so. Or every day for 10 mins.

    If I practice with only my strong leg and ignore the weak one, is it still effective for that strong one?

  • @serdimay7
    @serdimay7 8 років тому

    this is a great tutorial. my biggest challenge is balance. i do not have a good balance holding a kick. how often and how ling do i need to stretch during the day or week?

    • @SimonScher
      @SimonScher  8 років тому

      +serdimay7 I recommend stretching every day for at least 10 mins, but 30 if you have the time. I suggest doing it after a good warm up like the one I just published. Stretching after a long sparring match is the best for increasing range of motion though. For balance, I recommend do ing the kicks high and cleanly on the barre and then holding it with fewer and fewer fingers and then finding you center without touching the barre but having it there to grab if you start to fall. when you can do this easily move away from the barre and kick harder and faster more and more times. Check out my side kick tutorial, I go into more detail on this process in that one. Good luck

    My problem with high kicks is that the side of my belly is pushing the leg down, any tipps for that?

    • @SimonScher
      @SimonScher  8 років тому

      +Hollow Tensa There are a few options. push on the leg harder so that it pushes the belly to the side, Lean back a little, Or try and decrease the size of the belly. I had the same problem for a while and for a quick fix I found that Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred work out video decreased my belly size in under 30 days.

    Question: is it ok to hold on to the bar when practicing these kicking drills?

    • @SimonScher
      @SimonScher  7 років тому

      absolutely. you can use the barre until your are comfortable with the kicks and then wean off of it.

    Wow! How long it took you to do the splits?

    • @SimonScher
      @SimonScher  8 років тому +3

      It took about 3 months to get there. I did it when I was about 10 years old and have not let a day go by where I have not done them at least once. The trick is to practice often, push yourself to the point of extreme discomfort, but not pain, and to be warm before you stretch. I have several videos on stretching and increasing your splits.

    • @simonscher5413
      @simonscher5413 5 років тому

      I made them using pvc pipe from Home Depot. It’s really easy. You just buy 4 smaller pieces and one longer one then you buy a t and a y connector. Put them together and you have it.
