AWESOME VIDEO! Nice change of scenery as well :)
+Alex Wong haha thank you! That's my Dojang where I'll most likely be doing most of my filming from now on.
Ahm alex wong i have a question.. is taekwondo effective for real life situation ( a fight)
The video was good, it might be even better if you show moddifications or what a begginer might start with at differing / graduated levels of difficulty. for example you might demonstrate what a beginning level student could start with and when they might or should try to increase the difficulty how they should progress. Something like, when you are able to do 20+ with full extension you should remove the chair, as a progression to a more advanced level. You could do that with both beg. and advanced levels of progression etc.
I'll take this into consideration! Thank you 😊😊😊
I'm just starting taekwondo and this helped me touch my toes. thank you
Thank you for taking the time to make your videos we really appreciate it and enjoy it

Donavan, thank you sooo muuuch for you videos !!!!!!!
No problem! Thank you so much for watching 💙💙💙
nice kicks! great control!
Great video , but why the weird sub bass in the background ..? I couldn't hear a lot of what you said because of that buzzing sound.. I dont mean to critize you in a bad way , but maybe you can have more views if you use better background music .
hahaha. No offense taken at all. Sometimes it's so hard finding good background music. I tried to keep the volume low but lately I've been finding better music. Thanks so much for watching! :)
you don't need background music. People resort to background music when they don't have original content. Its hard to focus on what you're saying with the music.
Tuneful Soul, on a Roll ! Maybe Just a nice mic will do the trick. good content though!
Tuneful Soul, on a Roll !
I agree with you. Most great videos don't have or need music like this played in the background. And I really didn't think his response to your comment was the most humble one. If it were me I would have said, point taken. I will keep that in mind next time I'm making videos.
❤️❤️❤️seriously awesome
your awesome dude..I could never be that flexible or have great control....I'm 51 yrs old wish I could go back in time lol..? how many trophies have you won....must be in the hundreds...thanks brother great video's... much appreciated....

So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching! :)))
Yo man, good info and much thanks. "Question though"
How many days of the week would you recommend practicing this drill?
+craytercoffinmaker I recommend doing this 3-4 weeks of your body will allow it! 😊🔥
Donavan Barrett cool. Thanks
Anytime! :)
My goodness! I am a long way off from that kind of flexibility in my legs! I am still looking to get my splits! Any tips? Thank you!
Bear Gene watch Gabriella whited video on how to get the splits in one day , she helped me get mine but you might not get it right away it will probably take more than one day
this is incredible.
i want to ask you, if i did them 5 times a week or maybe more, for two months, would my kicks be straight 180 degrees with that strength?
note: i'm a professional poomsae player so i'm not a beginner ofc👶
I really wish I could give you a straight forward answer. However, everyone's body is different. Flexibility also plays a role in the height of your kicks. All I can tell you is that if you practice these three times a week consistantly, you will get results!
+donavantkd a massive thank you donavan!💕
Love your tips💚💚💚
Donavan, Are you doing these daily? or every other day? how many times a week? Also, i've seen your stretching video. Are you stretching daily? twice a day *morning/night* every other day? the same days you're doing your kicks?
Donovan born with this flexible muscles, Hes not need much training to developed better. Ask kwonkicker , or Philip Yun (usa tkd national team member)
I stretch every day! Lately I've been dedicating an hour to it a day, but 30 minutes a day should get you seeing serious results at first! I try to do a morning and night stretch for 30 minutes. I kick every day as well since martial arts is my life and I'm addicted to it. But kicking 3-4 times a week should be fine!
I'm sorry, I didn't know you were aware of my entire story. I'll have you know that three years ago, I couldn't do any splits. I could barely kick head level. Had no balance, or control...so I don't see how you can just assume that I've been flexible my whole life when you don't even know me xD
Ok sorry. :) My experience is,most of the people when they start a martial art, they cannot raise their legs to the height of their stomach. You did it first time to head level right? So you born flexible. But ok, i dont wannna trolling here! Good luck with your channel!
thanks bro i love your work
+Brendon Jr thanks so much that honestly means a lot to me! Thanks for the support! 😊
Superb 🥰
really nice. stay blessed and youthful.
My legs when in round kick, can't go any higher. I want higher round kicks, what stretch should I do.
Hey Donavan , I'm finding it quite hard to do it standing and keeping my body upright. I'm trying as hard as I can to keep my body straight but it naturally goes down to compensate for the lifting leg. Should I continue to do this and it will eventually go away and my body will get stronger to not bend down. Or will it always be bent down if I keep doing this? I make a point t push it up each time I kick.
That just means you lack either the flexibility or the strength in your hips. Your body is allowed to tilt a little, but I would recommend lowering your kicks and keeping your body as up as possible. Also continue working on stretching and you will see improvement over time!
Donavan Barrett Thanks Donavan, I will keep it up.
I do luv your videos it help me a lot but byt now I wonder to know do you have more balance workout. That's is only problem I have.
Donovan I'm already in my 30's you think I could still do your exercise? or will it be risky for me? like injuries etc. pls. advise me thanks.
No 30s is still.a good age as long as you practise it with the proper technique and progress at your own tempo or ability. You can still learn any martial art.
Dear Donavan,
Do you use only the weight of your legs to train for your high kicks and balance 🤔 Some martial artists advice to use ankle weights.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Ramses
Every now and then I use ankle weights but most of the time i just use the weight of my own legs. Sometimes the ankle weights really preventing you from reaching your highest point and i feel it's important that you really push the height so that you're also improving flexibility while improving strength. I feel if you put ankle weights on, your leg won't go up as high and your leg will never be comfortable kicking at your highest. That's just my view on it. I've gotten a lot more results out of just using body weight. thanks for checking out my video and leaving your question! :)
Thank you for the reply and the helpful explanation ☺️ I am going to make some necessary changes to my training schedule and integrate your advice 😎
Kind regards,
Ramses
Awesome! Glad i could help you out. Let me know how it goes! :)
Great exercises!
I'm so glad you enjoy them and found them to be beneficial! :)
CapoeiraLifeAddict
just some constructive criticism - i do poomsae and you angle your arm at an awkward position when you kick. it would benefit your poomsae if you relax your arm in a fist on your chest
This is an older video. I used to have a big problem with keeping my hands under control but I have since gotten a lot better!
bravissimo complimenti!!!
Great work
Thank you 🙏
How many times a week?
Garlic Yum
Everyday times a week. Lmao
hi Donovan I have been learning martial arts for many years but I cant kick like u, I think the main problem is my hip flexors. I think if I can't do a good side splits there is no way to lift my leg that high. so what do u suggest? no splits no high kicks.
I will work towards creating a video for hip flexors. I'll be returning to UA-cam as soon as I'm done car shopping. I'll also be doing live stretch and martial arts classes online, as well as online private lessons. I'll be keeping my subscribers posted!
Donavan Barrett thank you so much for replying my text. I have been doing all sorts of stretching and right now my side splits is abt 160 degree. It seemed extremely pain to go for that extra 20 degree. and you know I dont have the flexibility like those who just sit down and spread their leg apart with that I can only open maybe to 110 degree.
I have been following this video after every work out for the past month I have seen progress, but I have an mma fight in 3 weeks and I want my kicks higher faster. Should I stretch after this work out or should I do this work out more than once a day? Plz reply
You should always stretch before and/or after doing exercises like this. The stretching will help you have the flexibility to lift your leg higher and videos like this will give you the strength to be able to lift it up. Hope this helps!
Donavan Barrett dude my volume broken how many times must I do this
Do most people struggle with high kicks because of lack of strenght of flexibilty or is it like 50% each ? Ps great videos
Both play a key role in this type of training and you can’t kick like this unless you have balance, flexibility, and strength!
When did u start your takewondo journey..?
I started TKD when I was 7 so about 16 years ago :)
great video!!!!!
Thank you! :)
If I can do a sidekick with my legs at a 90 degree angle, how long do you think it will take me to get my kicking leg as high as yours?
And also DAMNNN HOW DO YOU KICK SO HIGH???
It depends on how much your training, your age, whether you're male or female, etc. There is no set time. It's important to just enjoy the journey and the progress. If you just focus on the destination, you'll get frustrated and most likely not stick with it. hope that helps!
are your knees locked out
How many times do you recommend i do this a week?
It really depends on the person. If you're sore, then don't do it the next day. If you feel fine, then you're okay to go at it again. I usually do it about three times a week.
What is benifit of hip conditon
amazing
Thanks so much! I appreciate it :)
How many times a week you do this workout. You know frecuency is very important if you are giving tutorials..
My channel isn't jus tutorials. I also like to vlog and take people through my life because I enjoy building a community of people that know me. I'd recommend doing these exercises 3-4 times a week.
Thank you Sr.
how straighten the kick because my kick is not straight at all
If you can't split do stretching
too many gains haha, keep grinding!!!
+Alpha Core Haha Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching! :)
No problem, stay focused and youll reach all your goals!!!
Haha I'm certainly giving it all I've got! :)
so amazing but how can a bignner manage these stretches
Just don't kick as high as me and take it at your own pace! Thanks for watching :)
would they still work if I can't kick that high?
+Alex Magos definitely! These work for people of all levels as long as you can kick to your waist.
ok thanks for responding!
So u are not a fighter?
thk buddy i´ll begin a trining with your tips
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching :)
Are you human wow
Now my kick so high thank you
Glad I could help! 😊
No wonder why your legs a so big. Do you do squats?
Are you sanji
Omg
does practicing high kicks will help increase in height ??
Souharddhya Maybe posture which will make you look taller. Lifting weights will definitely make you appear taller as your posture will be straighter.
think he meant the height of his kicks...
love Kong fu
You like the soccer player Pepe
I hmel chhia
I Love taekwondo
Same though :)
Great content, but that background music totally washes out your voice - seriously, you don't need music, just let the content speak for itself.
Shut down the music. The echo is bad enough
I can not hear you, please, controle the volume of the music in your videos :D
This is an old video. I might try to update it a bit
do you watch ufc? if you do who do who is your favourite player mines is jon joes
ouh tu may in teakuando i do go trianin time hahaha how people in may trianin time. haha way.
i like taekwondo
Same though! :)
Talk long and theoretical at the beginning. Then when you started, it was to fast (to high) don't get the technique and I had to skip it... :(
Always feel free to pause the video at any time. I try to condense the videos down so that they aren't too long. Take all of these exercises at your own pace
Okay you are right, sorry. I wanted to rush and wasn't patient.
Is it okay, when I kick even slight slower?
his a gay!!
