Curious about how you did the hole shots? Did you run with a camera in a gimble?

I used a gimbal and drove in the cart. No running 😄

Playing the Bluffs next week… I’m a bogey golfer all day long.. hopefully I don’t embarrass myself too badly. Planning to bump and run/stingers from the white tees.

Trust me score out there is irrelevant. Just enjoy the views and have fun! It's a truly great experience no matter how you play.

Yeah, well....my mistake was...I scored a legit birdie on #1....and a par on #18...and MAYBE a few indiscretions in between, but we won't talk about those!!!

Would you recommend hiring a caddy your first time out there?

I never took one in my 3 trips to Arcadia. A couple tee shots are blind but the yardage book guided me well. Thanks to Peaceful-Golf you can look at every hole before you go and know exactly where to hit it!!!!

I think a golf course, no matter how spectacular it might be from tee to green, simply must have tough greens to be considered a great golf course. I"ve played Arcadia Bluffs once on a perfect and almost windless twilight day. The course was amazingly fair. The visuals were at times daunting, but good golf shots did not find the heather mounding or sand. But those hazards certainly were there to capture and punish very bad shots and tragically inflate your score in an instant. There are some courses where the greens seem to defy the law of gravity. You can't read them properly, or divine the borrow needed for a putt. I've always felt it had to do with how the greens were laid out in relation to the surrounding hilly terrain creating optical illusions. I never got that sense of confusion at Arcadia Bluffs. The greens are large and undulating, but fast and true, and you can read them. There are times, of course, when a pin placed at the bottom of a knob meant you simply cannot be long with your approach, but that's a problem anywhere you find terraced or undulating greens, one with a simple solution if your paying attention.

How did you measure the green speed? Do you own a stimpmeter?

I went off my tournament experience with speeds that were verified. The speed that day was extremely fast as there was a bit of a drought in the area. I would say normal speed at Arcadia is around 11. I played Crystal Downs the same week and they were running even faster! damn near un-puttable. The fastest greens I have ever putted was at Fenway Golf Club in Westchester 15 on a stamp reading verified. Never saw anything like it. My putt on 5 from 10 feet for birdie rolled 60feet away when I missed!

Looks like Nebraska placed on Lake Michigan. Seriously they cut down every single tree on this property. Ive played this course but I do not rank it in my top 10 in the state of Michigan. Treetops is more fun and an all together better. I know it’s personal preference but I just can’t stand when I cut every single tree down to make it look like a place that it is not. When I go to Michigan I want trees and water.

And when you live in Michigan you get that 9/10 other courses and want a change like this. It’s all relative

As a Michigander I agree. Arcadia is perfectly acceptable for a high-end course, but it's obviously manufactured (similar to Eagle Eye in Bath, MI). Personally, I prefer Forest Dunes to Arcadia and also Hawk Hollow to Eagle Eye.

This place is a joke. The starter follow you around the course and tell you your 2 minutes behind. And we were all 5 and lower handicap. Could not enjoy the course. Don't waste your money

Sorry to hear this. I went 7 years ago, I guess things have changed. Nothing worse than being pushed when you are trying to enjoy your round.

Horrible design. Wasted a good plot of land. Will never go back.

I think horrible is a bit strong. It is ranked in the top 100 public courses in the country and being a rater myself I know that we are not paid in any way or influenced in our ratings. Golfers find the course to be enjoyable. Do I personally think it's the best ever? No. I think it has its flaws but it also has some positives. The par 3's really shine. With the 2nd and 13th the real stand outs. The par 4, 3rd is wonderful par 4 that doesn't overdo the mounding aspect which I agree is over done a bit. The greens I give high marks for the contours that are anything but average. The par 5's are the worst part of the design with multiple problems on each. The par 5 11th is especially bad. I do however think the course overall is a fun course and certainly worthy of anyones 4 1/2 hours.
