That's unfortunate to hear. When we played in 2019 it was in perfect shape. Hopefully they get it back on track as the design is really something special.

Yeah a 14 handicap would have a hard time breaking 100 out there from the tips. Not sure where you heard I was a 14 handicap but I am a +2.5. If fact I won a local tournament at the Downs a few years back. 🤣

Trying to place value or worth on a golf course is always tough. I don't think the cost of Jack's Point is out of line with some of the other really beautiful courses in the world. The great thing about golf is beauty is found at many different prices. I was able to play Roxburgh just down the road for like $20 and was blown away by its unique beauty. For me though after playing almost all the top courses in NZ Jack's Point stood out amongst the crowd for its natural beauty.

Yeah it seemed like my whole trip to NZ was filled with perfect weather. I spent over a month there and only 2 days of rain and wind that I can really recall.

I really enjoyed it. I was a little let down with some of the routing choices but what I like isn't for most golfers. I thought the finish 16,17,18 were the best holes on the course. So much intrigue with all the angles and land movement. Of the courses I played on my trip to NZ it would rank as my 5th or 6th favorite.

@ Okay probably to cater for overseas visitors who aren’t familiar with metric. You’ll probably spend more time looking at the scenery than worrying how far it is to the green⛳️

I prefer Jack's Point but that's just me. I have a couple routing issues with Cape Kidnappers. Kidnappers looks great from the air but on the ground it's not as visually stunning as Jack's Point. The Kidnappers course might be a better design though but overall I would take Jack's Point 6 out of 10 rounds.

Wow! That was the deal of the century. Such an amazing place. You are definitely spoiled with all the great golf in that area.

Maybe 15 yrs ago, the surroundings were not as built up !! There maybe redesigns due to infrastructure ! The hills will be redesign, Glendu bay is being constructed,along with hogans gully..which is a stones throw away from the Hills..Gil Hanse design..

@henryklaubautermann209 Really great that you are an 8.8 after 1 year! I would recommend my book to you. My approach is less technical and more allowing the supercomputer of the mind to work on its own. Conscious learn is quite slow where as subconscious learning is natural and easy. Think about learning to walk as a child. Did anyone help you? Without language you figured out that very technical movement pattern. My book teaches how to get in that state of learning. Good luck with your game!

@henryklaubautermann209 Well I was ranked in Golf Digest as one of America's top Teachers in my state many years ago. Now my teaching is more philosophical in nature. You can read the testimonials on Amazon or listen to some of my talks on Podcasts to see where I am coming from. It really depends on what you are looking for. I don't teach technique so if that's what you are after I am not your guy. If you think there is more to this game than what you have been told then you may enjoy my approach.
