I can only hope Ray Thomas knew how much his contribution meant to the band’s fans. He wrote some of the very most hauntingly beautiful and engaging songs. This was one of them.
One of their best songs...in my humble opinion. Go back to 1969 and sit with me in a room in a one horse town in TX. with nothing but thoughts and loneliness No drugs..not alcohol or ones of the earth and when you..like me today listen again...want to escape....do...just do...in your mind..because that is all we are allowed.
I remember being introduced to their music. My friends laid me on the floor, put a speaker on each side of my head, said, "You won't believe this", and proceeded to play their 3 existing albums. It was quite a journey. For a while The Beatles didn't exist, Zeppelin didn't exist, nor did anyone else exist. I was hooked. I've seen them 5 times and I believe that I'm better off for having listened to their music and especially their lyrics and also for learning to play their music on guitar.
Hoping you see this... What era did you see them? I’ve seen them several times after the release of The Other Side of Life. Wish I had seen them during the years before the break in the 70s.
They came from the area of Great Britain where the "real" crop circles appear yearly, Swindon and Wiltshire. Mike Pinder lives in my area Roseville, CA.
So true. I’ve always been a fan but these days looking back they were amazing! NO ONE in these days and time is or even could produce such quality thought out music in their 20’s. They were just kids!
Kocham też The Moody Blues, unosi mnie do do innego wymiaru przestrzeni, nad Ziemię ,w mistykę, inny poziom świadomości i duchowości. Ci bardzo wrażliwi twórcy są geniuszami.
Best concert I ever went to was a Moodies concert. I detest crowds...I had SEVERE panic attacks in the day...but having Justin Hayward sing to me....no panic; no stress...the man is, indeed, a magician, with magical lyrics; magical voice.
Moody Blues must be ranked in the top 5,,,,if not top 3 rock groups of all time.....1. Moody Blues...2. Led Zeppelin...3. Beatles... Moody Blues blow the listener away....their music is unmatched !!!! ❤ 🎵🎼🎶
Listening to this right now..tears rolling down my face..Im 50 years back in time. Their music has been with me through all of lifes adventures, Ive never been without it. Thank you MBs❤️💜🩷
First time I saw them live was at the Hollywood Bowl on October 10th, 1996 with my gal pal Kristin. It was her birthday, and mine was the next day. No warm up band, just the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra doing a 20 minute or so medley of MB songs. When they were done, the whole place was on its feet applauding and whooping it up, whistling, etc for several minutes. The HBO members were flabbergasted at such a response, looking at each other in amazement at the effect they had created! They were obviously not used to crowd reactions like that, or so it seemed. We were close enough that you could see the expressions on their faces as they looked around and some nodded their head as they smiled. Pure freakin' MAGIC!! Then the Moodies came out and launched into their gig and brought the place down again. What a night that was, I'll never forget it. I saw them two more times, once again at the HB and then at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City. If there was only one band that I could ever hear for the rest of my life, it would definitely be The Moody Blues, because they perform such a wide variety of music. They are one of the few bands that no one has covered any of their songs. Wonder why that is?? Randy
talented doesn't even begin to describe this band!!! my fav band of all time since I saw them 1st time 1971. packed arena. Never forget the sound of their 1st note!! I looked around everyone was transfixed. we all felt that energy, we were one at that moment. It's an experience that I love every time I get a chance to see them. Moving & cathartic!!
This is a most amazing group of awesome musicians. No other band has really been so deep, from the heart, so mystical.....an incredible companion on this journey to nowhere. So many nights I would listen and continue to discover meaning and spiritual truths from their music. I will always appreciate the Moody Blues and their contribution to rock and roll.
I listen to headphones when I ride my bicycle constantly and I ride nearly everyday 365 days a year, and the Moody Blues is like a soundtrack to my riding. I especially dig night time riding with lights of course, I feel like I'm in a space ship with them...escaping all the worldly troubles which are constant for most all adults. If it was not for the bike and the Moody Blues I think I"d be a pathetic waste.
I played the flute in my high school marching band, and I love Ray's black flute... One of the many reasons I love this band... And Justin Hayward is such a beautiful man! ;)
I was lucky to see Justin Hayward last night in Cambridge UK corn exchange. A small venue and I could not believe I was 4th row centre. He played this song and it is still in my head. He still plays and sings beautifully at 72 years of age. The best concert I have ever seen and I have seen hundreds!!!!
How I wish I could have been there to see them perform these wonderful songs live. They are the soundtrack of my life over the past 50 + years..... So glad that I got to see them live eventually, but only twice.
They are magical, mystical and beautiful!!!!! Justin's voice is just stunning, so lovely, it make's you want to close your eye's and dream...... ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹......
what an awesome band, the harmonies between justin, ray and john are unreal, justin's voice one of the smoothest ever, this song being just one example, ray is a great flute player..............
I've been a huge Moody Blues fan since the late 60s. This song (particularly the recorded version) highlights how, in my opinion, Justin Hayward had the most beautiful male voice ever in the history of pop/rock music. It's good to see that even now, there are so many of you out there who still understand and appreciate how incredible this music was, and sad to think that it's like will never again be created.
they need to get the Kennedy Center Honors! I agree with you totally? When I met him I told him thank you and just what you said about his voice! thanks for posting❤
I love the moody blues and have my whole life i was born on 1977. I bought this whole performance on dvd years ago and have watched it countless times live from paris i love this whole thing my favorite
Saw the "moody Blues" at Red Rocks amphitheater outside of Denver back in 1969.... What a show! This song is so beautiful and holds the test of time.....life was a little more simple then....and the acid was good too!
Thank you Cigargurl, and yes, Justin was 'Yummy' back then, and a very handsome older man too! What a SEXY voice. I could go to sleep and wake up listening to him and be very happy the rest of my life
Just sit back, close your eyes and let them take you on a journey in your mind. Their soft blend of sound and story takes you on such a relaxing natural high. This is one of the all time greatest groups with one of the most unique sounds, a true treasure to those of us from that era.
I grew up with my father playing 'On the Threshold of a Dream' while he made dinner for our family. I would lie on the couch and watch the dust motes chase each other in the setting sun's rays. I still feel that wonder from this music now as I did then more than 30 years ago.
Camelot! Merlin! What a wonderful mythic musical fantasy trip this was back in the day. It could be still if we just let Merlin cast his spell and get back to what is real and not "show".
Justin's voice is absolutely magnificent. I grew up listening to it and it still makes me shake my head in wonder. How much talent can one guy have and how much talent can one band have? These guys deserve every accolade they have gotten and much more.
While everyone lauds Justin Hayward for his singing and songwriting, I have really grown to appreciate his guitar playing. I wore out the Live +5 album when I first got it 35 years ago, but didn't appreciate the guitar work on this song particularly until I listened to it with headphones. It is amazing and he is a truly underrated guitar virtuoso. If you don't believe me, look up legendary producer Tony Visconti's comments on his guitar work.
This is what poetry and imagination sound like when combined with with music and musical talent. If for only a brief few moments, man and musical instrument create such a harmony as to reach inside you and transport you to a peaceful place where a smile is commonplace.
If music is the wine of the Gods.....The Moody Blues are not from our system...... This group have been my favorites from the first time I ever heard them...like 40+ yrs ago... God bless them all!

And here They are... The Moody Blues... still playing and singing stronger then ever, and the many songs that remain! Wonderful! Always Legend of a Mind!
I will add to that rather flat comment below..from 4 years back, that justin's vocal well controlled improvising on the studio version really make it truly special....at least for me.
just another magical tune from one of the earliest progressive rock bands, their songs are timesless, and Justin Hayward has one of the finest voices ever heard in any genre of rock and roll
Have all there music...seen them dozens of times live from the beginning..best band of all times....one in a million never to be again..Thankyou for all your great and blessed music .God bless the moody Blues...✝🎼🎸
Someone always had to introduce you to their music back then. Once you were you were hooked. I bought all their albums after that. The artwork on the covers alone was intriguing enough. Then when you see how many instruments these guys play individually you think “No Wonder”. This is the most original and pioneering Prog Rock ever.
When my English teacher and his partner befriended me, I turned them on to The Moodys and since they appreciated the diction, we drove around in summers listening whilst I learned of this Litchfield County, Connecticut. The surviving partner died at 93 in our home 3 years ago, I sought comfort and you have provided that. Thank you. Bob would have loved this.
Ah to be gorgeous and young and full of dreams. I am thankful that Moody Blues came into my life at a time when I was a teen and the most receptive to alternative states.
Wow. I haven't heard this version for more years than I care to remember. Totally brilliant, and I didn't need any burning herbal substance to enhance the experience! ;)
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, lyrics and melody. Moreover, what a beautiful voice and fantastic guitar strumming. Love Ray's flute. Fantastic band. ...beautiful man mrJustin Hayward ;-)
in the 70´s, sitting in English Literature classes, going home & listening to my fav. band - the Moody Blues, I dreamt these guys were the modern 'English Lit. knights'! In a sort of historical way they are!
But a true Moody's fan does not care about the sound quality, because something like this video, as well as others from Moodies Fan, you get to hear the raw voice of Justin Hayward. I bought most of their songs from itunes, including Are You Sitting Comfortably, but I love these raw versions the most. They take me back in time, and I prefer listening to something like this because number one, after listening to their music for so long, one can tell when Justin adds something to the music such as in this concert, causing one to realize that he is singing live. So I ripped off just the music from Moodies Fan's video (thank you, thank you, thank you, for putting these memorable songs in concert of long ago), and since it is in MP3 format, I converted the songs to M4a then burned all of Moodies' Fan music onto a cd as well as adding my other favorite songs from their other albums i bought from itunes and now play it in my car. I also saved the converted songs into a folder on my computer. I cherish these songs much better than studio created songs. One really gets to hear Justin's voice. I also bought the DVD of this concert and watch it in my kitchen as I cook and/or clean. My only regret is that the MB's did not get to the USA much and by the time people in the USA were catching on, they quit for a bit, and did not return into the early 80's coming out with a different sound. I love the Moody Blues before the retired for a bit. The songs in the 80's are okay. But the songs in their earlier years reaches deep into my soul. Even though I have this concert on DVD and listen to their music from this concert, I also stop back in and watch them sing. Thanks once again Moodies Fan.
Who in the world thought that they Lip synced? You can tell Justin Hayward is singing live. This is truly one of the best bands ever. I loved them then and I love them now. They are classic. Nights in White Satin was played in the beginning of Depp's Dark Shadows, which is good cause anyone who hears that song will want to know who in the world is singing such an awesome song which will lead them to other fabulous songs of the legendary Moody Blues.
@@jamesmcintyre2008 yes, but some of it is. The Moody Blues is a live performance band, always has been. It is unfortunate that parts of the sound was stolen. But I am happy to see at least a few of their live concert songs in this gig in France were saved. I have the DVD of this gig as well as the huge concert (like the USA's Woodstock in August 1969) wherein they appeared in front of thousands of people and they sounded great. Every gig they have done and was put on a DVD, I have bought, besides their albums, including DOFP. I have been to several of Justin Hayward's solo gigs and the small band sounds great. It really angers me that Duran Duran's new cd is entitled Future Past! Sound familiar? Now I like DD, been to their concerts, but I do not care for their title of their new album.
I have always been a fan of this band....they were such an influence for later bands, such as........Pink Floyd for one......There won't ever be another band like them.....unfortunately.....but we have these wonderful memories and music!!!!! Blessed Be!!!!!
I'm a Moodies fan forever. Whether they want me or not I'm hooked. Thank you gentlemen for all your great music. It takes me to another planet ❤
I can only hope Ray Thomas knew how much his contribution meant to the band’s fans. He wrote some of the very most hauntingly beautiful and engaging songs. This was one of them.
His wind instruments and Mike’s Mellotron set them apart from almost every other band. And Justin’s amazing voice. Al of them.
Here I am 50+ years. After first hearing this, still tearing up. Thank you MP
Most underrated band in history and should be remembered for a long time!
Former producer for the Beatles George Martin said the Moody Blues were "criminally underrated."
Timeless
Is this the live plus five version?
@@thetruthfornow6045 , great question! Either way, I want that classic twin-pack album like crazy!
their music will NEVER be forgotten....it deals with the eternal principles of LIFE and LOVE..which we are all made of....
The Moody Blues are not a Band. They are THE BAND !
One of their best songs...in my humble opinion. There is nothing to compare to the music of the Moody Blues.
The most under rated group in history!

They got me thru some tough times.
I am so eternally happy that I heard my first Moodies song at 16. Blessed to be still listening to the most important & talented musicians ever. XXXX

Some of the backing is not live
I was there. Lost in a Lost World Tour. Atlanta. The OMNI. 1973. I have NEVER been the same.
i am sitting very comfortably, And the music is so nice.I love this number.
love from hellie
Sometimes I wonder if the bank really knows how touched we are by their performances. It is still incredible for me.
goosebumps and flashbacks
I have always been a fan of this band....they were such an influence for later bands, such as........Pink Floyd for one......There won't ever be another band like them.....unfortunately.....but we have these wonderful memories and music!!!!! Blessed Be!!!!!
