My mom worked high up in a kiosk store that sold cards in the 90's in Norway and she got a first edition base set box as a sample. None of the other ceos had young kids when Pokemon first came out, so she took it. I vividly remember opening a box with my sister as a 5 year old. Over the years we always got the first new cards. First edition packs as rewards for cleaning our rooms, doing the dishes, etc.
Kudos to you for recognizing an awesome opportunity to recap the entire TCG when it really hadn't been done in this format by other UA-camrs. As someone who was a kid when Base set hit, I imagine this would be even more interesting/useful for younger people who don't remember the early sets or eras.
Gotta say, the editing work that you put into your videos are leagues above what other Pokemon UA-camrs are doing. You definitely deserve more views on these videos 👍🏼.
I went through my old Pokemon card collection that was just loose in a box, and found Shining Magikarp, Shining Tyranitar, and Shining Celebi. I'm not sure if it's worth grading them though, they're likely between lightly and moderately played. Still, it's been fun to try and get back into collecting.
I'm going to be honest, this was such an amazing video. I was so surprised on how much research your team and you must have had to do on all of this. You should definitely have more subscribers on this channel then pokémon Go with this type of content😊
What an epic video. And my favorite set is 151. I completely master set this to include every single promo, and even the overseas pokemon together stamped promo’s
I hated Base Set 2 so much as a kid, I had all the cards I collected separate from all my jungle, base set, fossil, team rocket, gym heroes and gym legends cards
This was honestly a really well put together video! I think you talked about every single set except for Detective Pikachu and that really early on "set" that I don't remember the name of but it was like Island themed if I'm not mistaken and maybe was only in Japanese?
Dude, this was an amazing history of Pokemon. As someone who loved and grew up with the first generation pokemon, I felt so lost when trying to get into pokemon collecting now. But you have made the entire history of pokemon a little more digestible. Big thanks man.
Unfortunately the first part about the carddass set is a bit off. The carddass sets are bit confusing because there are 4 different sets (parts) released. Parts 1 and 2, Green and Red respectively, were released in 1996 and feature all 151 original Generation 1 Pokemon. They did release in September and October like mentioned. The carddass cards shown in this video are from sets 3 and 4 released in 1997. Sets 3 and 4 differentiate from 1 and 2 by the unique artwork of all 151 Pokemon as seen in the video. All in all very cool video though, love the nostalgia!
Cool to look through the TCG history, not quite right about Battle Styles being the introduction of alt arts though. There were alternate arts in the tag team sets.
I really love black and white era with the full art EX cards and the shinies even though the pull rates aren’t good. Also love the platinum era, ex era, and XY era
The diamond and pearl/ platinum era is by FAR my favourite. I discovered what Pokémon was just as gen 4 released and I remember being absolutely obsessed with the cards. Any chance I had I’d ask for Pokémon cards haha. Rising rivals and supreme victors are my faves from that era for sure, but mysterious treasures is close behind :)
I just pulled my old shoebox of pokemon cards out of a closet at my mom's the other weekend. I have a bunch of stuff from 1999, lots of holographics.. it's been a fun and exciting time looking at their values as listed on ebay, making decks of old cards and playing the TCG again. I'm back, baby!
Would love to see another video like this about the card game itself! All the tournaments and championships, as well as the exclusive cards that came from it
Really and truly appreciated this deep dive on the cards. Been playing the games since the Game Boy but never paid much attention to the cards. My son now is collecting which brought me into this world and this video was awesome to watch!
After gen 1 and beginning of gen 2 i was done getting cards, this is crazy how they kept making them but it got weireder and weirder. The original cards were so nice and beautiful, not after that
I've hated Burning Shadows since I started collecting, not really sure why. I'm KICKING myself for not buying a ridiculous amount of Unbroken Bonds and Unified Minds during quarantine. They were SO POPULAR I thought I'd always be able to get them, and then like a month later they were impossible and WAY PAST my price range online, as they still are. I missed out on Team up by like 6 months and I'm beyond pissed I'll never be able to afford that and have the joy of opening a booster box!
In 2020, you have to remember, you had reseller’s following the vendors around at each store, which is why you never saw anything after a couple minutes of a restock!
I remember as a kid, Co-op had a supermarket in my town, and it was closing down due to the building being demolished. I was buying fossil packs for 50p and pre made fossils decks for £2.
Great video!! Sun and Moon w/Shining legends as my favorite!! 🎉 I do like these types of videos that break up the same old/same old typical videos out today. Great editing! 💯
Jungle set introduced non holo rares because people didn't want to play/use their holos during play/tournaments. That way people could keep their holos in good condition without damaging them!
Awesome video. I've been loving the Crown Zenith set; the art is absolutely beautiful from that particular set and the pulls were actually decent for collectors. Definitely doesn't get as much love as it should.
Thanks for the video with a great overview! My favorite set has to be EX Unseen Forces - I love the pack art and the attention given to Johto in that set!
ppl in the future find my comment and say that i was right. Pokemon works on a pokemon GO like VR experience so ppl go outside and actually catch there pokemons like on GO but just in VR.
kinda a low blow. I didn't realize how much i spent on these things. really the box trainer packs where like $40 or something can be mistaken for a game to a dumby. The packs where 8 dolor or something, why. After a wile ud spend to much without knowing with packs because how random it was. If i still collected it would be as much as the cost of a car. Probably. It just hasn't stopped. It's a fun game. Used to have the game boy color game.
My favourite eras are: X&Y,sun and moon, sword and shield, scarlet and violet But the no.1 is sword and shield and the favourite set is "team up" since it introduced tag team cards
Amazing video bro! I collect Pokemon cards since 2000 and it has always been something special for me. This video of yours keeps motivating me to catch 'em all haha greetings from Spain!! 🎉🎉
im born in 93. all of us kids collected pokemon cards starting from 1999-2000 up until 2003 we got older and thought pokemon was childish haha and we all started collecting yugioh until 2004 thats when bayblades took over for a bit after that was done we were all older kids and started to chase girls and never went back to pokemon. until 2023 with 151.
Ugh, I didn't start buying Pokemon cards until Black and White came out and these were my first games ever, too. I was deep into Yugioh and still am. I either lost most of them or they got taken from me, and then I was "Oh, I will just buy them when I get older" Well that became an unattainable reality...
Made my mom buy me a folder of Cards from a garage sale in like 2007 when I was a young boy. I had only played Gen 3 Emerald at that point so most of the Pokemon confused me(Mosely Gen 1&2 Mons) but owning it now it makes me happy even if i never used them
My favorite set is shadowless base! I remember I opened a shadowless Mewtwo and Charizard but unfortunately it got stolen in school so I learned to be more careful about my collection. I remember once I open a shining Tyranitar but unfortunately after I trade it away to my cousin my grandmother accidentally or mistakenly threw it away about 20 years ago! I also like Ancient Origins because the art work on Gyarados looks amazing!
Nice video! There are so many awesome sets and cards. Personally I’m most fond of the Ruby & Sapphire era and the Sword & Shield era (gallery & alt arts). Diamond & Pearl and Black & White are probably my least favorite era’s. Call of Legends is amazing though.
Great video, what a trip down memory lane... I remember buying base set packs with my weekly pocket money and trading at school with friends. Wish I had known how valuable they'd become and keep some sealed and treat my vintage cards better!
For those who don't know. The reason Kadabra did not appear again until 2023 was because of Uri Gellar who sued because he thought it was referring to him.
Since you asked at the end I like stormfront that ones nostalgic for me because it's my favorite set from the era when I firsted started however my favorite sets of all time are definitely the anniversary and redux ones like Generations and 151, etc. and I also did like this run of cards such as Paldean Fates. I'm excited for the upcoming sets as well.
Hi Mystic! There's also the Gold Reshiram and Silver Zekrom! Which came first? Lunala and Solgaleo Full Art Gold or Reshiram Full Art Gold? 17:24 Legendary Treasure Gold Zekrom right?
Looking back at some of the mid-era cards honestly makes me really frustrated, because I had so many good cards from some of those sets and my dad threw out all of my cards because he was mad I wasn't talking to him.
Team worked SUPER hard on putting this video and timeline together! Hope you all enjoy!
First like and I did really enjoy this video!😅😅😅
We will(:
dude props your edıtıng guy needs a raıse
Awesome video, well done. Crown zenith/vstar is my personal favorite
Great video idea bro!!

As someone who was a kid when Base set hit, I imagine this would be even more interesting/useful for younger people who don't remember the early sets or eras.
I'm amazed that despite there being so many UA-cam videos there's still stuff like this that's never been done before.
Great job. This is exactly the type of refresher I need coming back into Pokémon cards. 151 did such a great job with the nostalgia factor.
Gotta say, the editing work that you put into your videos are leagues above what other Pokemon UA-camrs are doing. You definitely deserve more views on these videos 👍🏼.

There’s a big market for PSA 1s, could be worth looking into.
I'm going to be honest, this was such an amazing video. I was so surprised on how much research your team and you must have had to do on all of this. You should definitely have more subscribers on this channel then pokémon Go with this type of content😊
Amazing video man. Explained so well. Really put me on an emotional train of nostalgia. Well done to you and the team.
This was such a fun watch, great work fam 👌🏻
What an epic video. And my favorite set is 151. I completely master set this to include every single promo, and even the overseas pokemon together stamped promo’s
Man this was incredibly well done
I hated Base Set 2 so much as a kid, I had all the cards I collected separate from all my jungle, base set, fossil, team rocket, gym heroes and gym legends cards
Love this type of informative videos about the history pokemon!
I really enjoyed this video thank you all for the hard work you guys do 😊
This is a great video!! Definitely highlights how pokemon has grown throughout the years
I usually don’t like your videos but this is well put together. Good research and production quality, good work!
This was honestly a really well put together video! I think you talked about every single set except for Detective Pikachu and that really early on "set" that I don't remember the name of but it was like Island themed if I'm not mistaken and maybe was only in Japanese?
Great video and definitely super awesome history I didn't know about early Japanese cards.
Dude, this was an amazing history of Pokemon. As someone who loved and grew up with the first generation pokemon, I felt so lost when trying to get into pokemon collecting now. But you have made the entire history of pokemon a little more digestible. Big thanks man.
Thank you for all your hard work in putting this together! Just a brilliant video!
Thanks for clearing up the Charizard rookie card. Been in many debates about it over the years
Amazing video for someone getting back into Pokemon, thank you!
GREAT WORK! I've been subscribed for over 10 years. I'm impressed watching your content as if it was me in my teenage years wow 🙏🏽 Thank you bro
Personally, I think some of the older cards look cooler than modern day art cards.
100%
True black and white zekrom ex for me the still coolest and beautiful card ever, some people may not like the 3d art for the cards
There’s a charm to the hand-drawn art instead of a the aluminum 3D renders they throw on cards now.

alt art V cards
@@HIP-HOPOPOTAMUSThat’s not what he said though. Also, yeah V cards started in Sword and Shield so it makes sense V alt arts would start there too.
Really cool video! Got me hyped to recollect my childhood pokemon base set
This is fantastic
Finally! I’ve been searching for a video like this for years
Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
Awesome video! Just a quick thing, alt arts were introduced in Team Up along side the Tag-Team cards. Keep up the great work!
One thing to note is that it was actually Dragons Exalted when the Dragon type was introduced.
I really love black and white era with the full art EX cards and the shinies even though the pull rates aren’t good. Also love the platinum era, ex era, and XY era
Such a great video! Thanks a lot team Mystic🙌🏼💖

very comprehensive. I dropped out of the cards after neo genesis so this helped alot to catch up. thanks!
This was such a well edited & informative video, the way you undersold Neo Discovery was puzzling haha

awesome video thanks for putting it together
you forget the fact silver tempest also broke the mould in being the first time a base form got a full art
Nice video! A lot of info. Good job guys. I didn't start back to collecting until sw&sh but I like the sun&moon era

gotta go with pokemon 151 along with legendary collection for the reverse holos

Thanks for this I learned a lot from it. I am a new collector and had never seen or heard of some of theses packs.
9:33 thats not true, delta species cards were first introduced in "ex delta species", many sets later
Thanks 4 the summary of the Pokémon history bro 👌🏻

We have Logan Paul to thank for scalpers.

My young self opened a pack back in 2015 or 2016 and I got a primal groundon and it got water damaged so yeah that sucks for me
