This was my first plunge into the Soul Reaver series, before I even knew what it was I know it’s not everybody’s favourite, but the nostalgia I get from this ❤ I still haven’t played SR 1 or 2 yet, but I know the story
Looking back, one thing I never understood is how weapons have a limited durability meanwhile Kain’s gauntlets can take any hit, especially from the Reaver. Didn’t bother me then as a kid, but as an adult it’s something I can’t stop thinking about 😂
This game had me hooked for hours i nearly finished it i was right at the end. And then my patience ran out trying to beat the sarafan lord. It was an exhausting labyrinth of a game. Tons of puzzles to figure out and so many levels. This truly brings me back to when gaming was great.
It's kinda funny that this was the first game I played in the franchise, went into it thinking its a generic vampire game. Got very confused and amazed by the lore. And 20 years later I am still puzzling the story together :D
The shitty thing about this game was the tank control Soul Reaver 1 was more fluid than this, however i liked the atmosphere of this game, remaking it would do it a lot of justice
I'm just wondering what idiot greenlit the downgrade in graphics and cutscenes over Soul Reaver 2 which came out 5 months prior. Different studio yes, but pretty ridiculous how horrible it looked in comparison. All that aside the storytelling for all of these games was way ahead of its time. The fact that no developer has picked it up to continue it after all these years is ridiculous.
It was stitched together from 2 other games then given a fast makeover. Soul Reaver 1 was originally a completely different prototype titled "Shifter". Nevermind that each title would constantly cut content to be used in future titles.
Soul Reaver 2 was actually the one rushed, and it was originally coming out for the Dreamcast, so it makes even less sense that Blood Omen 2 looks worse...my guess is its because the levels are bigger.
There is also is another sad reason. Three of the wonderfully talented voice actors have passed away that are connected to the series. Rest in peace - Tony Jay, Paul Lukather & Rene Auberjonois. You will always be missed. 🥀🥀🥀
Most people don't realize but the events of this game are the reason that Kain decided not only to raise the Sarafan Warrior Priests (Raziel and Co) as his Vampiric Sons as an insult to the Sarafan order, but also to lead Kain to study the Time Streaming device and learn of the future, know the events to come and what to do. A lot of people confuse that this game was an "Alternate" past because of the events that Kain did in the future, but in fact it was the plans of the Hylden and the Elder "god" from the beginning.
The events of Blood Omen 2 come about as the result of Kain sparing Raziel from the Soul Reaver after Raziel killed his human Sarafan brethren in Soul Reaver 2. I'm still icky about the canonicity, however, because due to cut content, Vorador being alive is left unexplained.
@@CidSilverWing Dude, the events stem from Blood Omen 1. The Soul Reaver was plucked from a Timeline in the future by Moebius and left in a room to have Kain then find it and take possession of it. Kain then traveled to the past, fought and killed William the Just WITH the Soul Reaver whom also had a Soul Reaver given to him by Moebius. William's Soul Reaver broke when Kain killed him because of the paradox of both blades being present in the same Timeline. Remember that the sword was forged as a Blood Reaver originally by Vorador to be the Vampires' emblematic weapon, and was in fact called the Blood Reaver originally. The sword became the Soul Reaver in the events of the future and from any of the times later after its entrapment of Raziel's soul Moebius traveled to any particular future for the events that I mentioned and plucked it many times as seen on the different events on the games. This leads to Raziel existence as a Nexus in time, hence he is excluded from a predetermined path that to me includes even Janos Audron, Kain, obviously Moebius and the Elder god. My theory on this is that Raziel inadvertently might've given the Elder god Moebius' Time streaming powers when he fed him to the Eg in DEFIANCE. To me the Eg is not really a god as it claims to be but in fact a gigantic wraith parasite (view all the soul eating fiends in all of the LOK games in the spectral world) and it clung to Raziel when he was at the bottom of the lake unconscious. The clear evidence of this is when at the end of Soul Reaver 1 the Eg warns Raziel that if he pursues Kain into the time vortex the Eg will be unable to reach him, but then in SR2 there the Eg was in the base of the Pillars of Nosgoth and claims to be in all times at the same time, and Raziel fails to remind him of what he warned him about previously. As in DEFIANCE when Raziel feeds the Eg Moebius' soul, the old Time Streamer's power would in fact make the parasite timeless and able to rewrite history itself. The Eg may have traveled to the ancient past of Nosgoth and upon its arrival begins claiming to be a god to all of the inhabitants. Only duping the Vampires, humans like Moebius and even the Hylden whom rejected him, giving the Eg a reason to start the war between the Vampires and the Hylden and releasing all the events we see in a cyclical way. So it is clear that ALL of the games ARE in fact connected and mainly due to the time meddling of Moebius and the Elder god, Kain and Raziel.
@@EternalRoman I wasn't expecting an essay on this o.o But I've never once heard anyone refer to the original Reaver as the "Blood Reaver" in-universe. Wasn't this termed by fans? The only paradox I know of with the Soul Reaver is in SR1 when Kain tried to strike Raziel with it - the Raziel trapped in the Reaver could not devour his past self, shattering it.
@@CidSilverWing I basically summarized the entire game series in total so you would understand where it stems from. Also the name of the Blade as the Blood Reaver was said in the game DEFIANCE when even Janos Audron mentioned it as well as Raziel when he ponders on the sword's origin. I have all 5 games and I played them back to back when they all came out and in chronological order. This is what got me to understand the connections. And as of the paradox, Kain himself refers to the Blades breaking in SR2 when he and Raziel chat at William the Just's resting place.
@@CidSilverWing It was a time trap from the Hylden all along. I had forgotten to mention that the Hylden as well in their banishment to the demon realm were also in a way timeless. THIS was mentioned by Janos and the Hylden general. Even Moebius alluded in DEFIANCE that the Hylden were a minute irritant basically to the entire plans. The Hylden, Moebius and the Elder god basically had twisted time lines all over and Raziel is the fulcrum to where events get fixed. When he purifies his Soul and enters the Sword that last time, Kain is now armed to fix the mistake. He has the weapon to kill the Elder god and rectify the past, hence the game ends with present Kain with the Purified Soul Reaver in the timeline when he had let the pillars fall at the end of Blood Omen 1.
Lets not forget that some hylden aren't too crazy about the hylden lord. I think there would be some factions in the proposed 6th game that would lead to the hylden lords downfall. Maybe even a large portion of the hylden just want peace, and are willing to fight with the vampires against the hylden lord and the elder god.
Idk where u took it from but in blood omen 2 you can very clearly hear dialogs between Hylden and they literally saying that they hate everything and everyone 💀 and you can see extremely clearly that Kain killed in bo2 Hylden lord lol
@King.D_no.1 defiance ends where blood omen one begins. The hylden changed history and the hylden lord will again take over but wirh his entire hypden army instead of just a few who crossed over when it weakened when kain first refused the sacrifice. They exploited raziel's free will and sent him to different times to increasingly weaken the seal that traps them in the demon realm. The pillar don't just corrupt in defiance, they blow up and the hylden can be seen literally escaping which didn't happen the first time. It's a new timeliness and again the hylden lord is more dangerous. And the point is how will this war resolve between vampires and the hylden. Thats what defiance is setting up.
@@NA1c158 another thing is that the hylden were at war with vampires becasue they were against elder god while the vampires worshiped it, with kain purified of corruption and having a "new completely purified soul reaver" stronger than before at the end of defiance and knowing that the elder god is a lie maybe it is possible for an alliance between some faction of the hyldens, there are 2 races now against elder god and a weapon that can kill him, the vampires and hylden only need to set their differences

Honestly I liked this look of Kain the best. His stupid mummified corpse look never appealed to me. He looked like a dingus in the original too but that wasnt their fault as the tech at the time was breaking new ground. Never the less pale albino vampire Kain beats all others IMO.
Vorador is so crucial to the story. They could have killed him at any point in time and Kain would have nothing. If they truly wanted to end vampires they needed to kill him

Sadly due to bad financial marketing/spending, legal ownership, lack of a larger audience, a remake of Legacy of Kain that was to be a “realistic and gritty” to jump on the bandwagon of Game of Thrones, and said remake is name only, no characters, lore, Soul Reaver sword, and replaced with some edge lord cringe “vampire”
Have you changed so much? Kain: “Bitch I got wise. Some children call it woke… I am no ones pawn! Don’t try to Bull shit an bullshitter! You got an angle, let’s hear the lie already!”

I'm so curious about what else would have happened in this timeline, since "Old" Kain receives memories about this and urges Raziel that Janos must stay dead in Defiance. But in BO2 his younger self basically sorts everything out. It probably had something to do with Janos being thrust into the Demon World / Oblivion / Hylden dimension here at the end of BO2.
@@Washeek I think the Hylden gaining further entry into Nosgoth is what worried Kain, especially because its implied that they have some means to change the timeline as Raziel had. For example the Hylden Lord knew that Raziel had claimed the Heart of Darkness from "old" Kain to resurrect Janos. However he genuinely believed that he had killed the "young" Kain and was surprised about his return.

A remake with all the original voice work and story, only modernize the game mechanics and physics. No new voice work or story or they would ruin it with modern garbage.
@@SuperEndiku That’d be nice but I think the voice actor who played the elder god passed.
@@darkmerc02 when I say to keep the original voice work, I mean to keep the original voice work. Not to have the original voice actors do new lines. Just take the audio from the original game and use it in the new game.
@@SuperEndiku ah perfection just clean up the audio a bit.

This was my first plunge into the Soul Reaver series, before I even knew what it was
I know it’s not everybody’s favourite, but the nostalgia I get from this ❤
I still haven’t played SR 1 or 2 yet, but I know the story
Looking back, one thing I never understood is how weapons have a limited durability meanwhile Kain’s gauntlets can take any hit, especially from the Reaver. Didn’t bother me then as a kid, but as an adult it’s something I can’t stop thinking about 😂
This game had me hooked for hours i nearly finished it i was right at the end. And then my patience ran out trying to beat the sarafan lord. It was an exhausting labyrinth of a game. Tons of puzzles to figure out and so many levels. This truly brings me back to when gaming was great.
this is the game that got me into the series. Beaten all but Blood Omen. Love them all and the lore too.
My favorite game in the series for Kain because almost everything he says is an insult.
Kain is the overlord ultimate badass
Go here, go there. What do you take me for, your errand boy?
😆 😆 😆 Love the voice actor for kain.
7:00 I feel like sucker punch took a page or two of this games facial animatios, that woman moves very similarly to carmelita and others.
It's kinda funny that this was the first game I played in the franchise,
went into it thinking its a generic vampire game.
Got very confused and amazed by the lore.
And 20 years later I am still puzzling the story together :D
1:15:41
That this is still in the finished game is hilarious.
The shitty thing about this game was the tank control Soul Reaver 1 was more fluid than this, however i liked the atmosphere of this game, remaking it would do it a lot of justice
I thought the tank controls were good for this game and helped with combat, Soul Reaver felt sloppy to play to me.
I hate controls from defiance n SL, as comment below said it's much better for the combat etc.

I'm surprised this series has received this much love from all of you. What other "forgotten" series do you wish would make a return?
47:02 I gotta say, like the axe sword that guy’s swinging. Be cool to have a shorter version like a hatchet short sword lol
@@Jose-se9pu Afaik the studio that did BO2 was smaller and inexperienced. In the end, you get what you pay for (in this case producer gets...)
2:06:58 Kain was no simp. In his own words " Cowards and traitors deserve no second thoughts , only their complete annihilation"
@@EternalRoman I wasn't expecting an essay on this o.o
But I've never once heard anyone refer to the original Reaver as the "Blood Reaver" in-universe.
I never realized that statue was mobius in the dark prison level
I just realized Kain has five fingers here instead of the giant three claws he has in later games.
He starts off Blood Omen with regular hands, so we had to get to 3 somehow.
Interesting to see what the Sarafan had intended for turel and why he was cast back in time
after playing SoulReaver1 and 2, hopping to BloodOmen2 was like going back in time decade on how it looked, but damn if it wasnt a good and fun adventure
MASTERPIECE OF A GAME. WE WANT PART 2!!!!!!!!
Bro, this game _is_ part 2.
If a Blood Omen 3 is made, it should be set in our century. To freshen the pot, you play as a fledgeling vampire birthed by Kain himself. Best of all, you could design your playable character yourself.

This game is so trippy and bizarre. So many ideas. Say what you want about it, but you cannot fault the devs for not /trying/.
BO2 is a fitting sequel that adopts the weirdest, most steampunk elements of Soul Reaver.
No hay nada de cyberpunk en Legacy of kain, en realidad esta mas acerca al steampunk por las maquinarias y tecnologia presente en Blood omen 2 y Soul reaver
Nothing cyberpunk about it. The architecture alone doesn't let me see it that way

The dialogue to this game is supreme
The Mass... what if when it died, it sank into the spirit world, awoke, and thought itself an Elder God?

@@adventuringwithjimboslice5278 they would screw up the gameplay
@jasonbrophy5567 I 100% believe that too unfortunately

The dialogue is very easy to follow along. What makes Uma think she can defeat the Serafan Lord if she can't even defeat the 1st boss: Faustis?
How the hell didn't I piece together the Seer was a Hylden? In the very same game they are depicted before their banishment process.
Kain should have been getting some of Uma.
Not sure vampire parts work. That's possibly the way the curse stops them from being able to produce "natural" children.
But who knows, maybe he was getting it in off screen.
Spare me the moral anecdote and direct me too his throat
If ff7 can get a remake so can the LOK series. Look how many of us are still here searching up content. I still have all the games and play them again once and awhile.

Impressive how Raziel was in so many scenes but they didn't need Micheal Bell at all for this game.
Yeah because the Blood Omen games are about Kain's early life before he turned Raziel into a vampire.
In this corner, bad graphics and timeline inconsistencies. And in this corner, Kain being an absolute arrogant evil badass 100% of the time... What was in the first corner again ?

Honestly I liked this look of Kain the best. His stupid mummified corpse look never appealed to me. He looked like a dingus in the original too but that wasnt their fault as the tech at the time was breaking new ground.
Never the less pale albino vampire Kain beats all others IMO.

Grammatically this is wrong. I know, Kain says it like that in the games, but the correct phrase is: "Vae victis!" with an "i" instead of a "u".
20 years later and I still love this game
Make this game happen in 2022 I need it you need it we all need it
LoK series is the only reason I kept my ps2.
Vorador is so crucial to the story. They could have killed him at any point in time and Kain would have nothing. If they truly wanted to end vampires they needed to kill him
I would so enjoy if they made a remake of both Blood Omens games and Soul Reaver games with the fancy smooth 3d designs and animations we have now!😁That would be so cool to see!😎👍 Just like what they did with the Resident Evil Remake and franchise so far.☺️👍
Anyone notice in the tutorial when it literally says "Press jump to jump"
Who else played this and wanted to be a vampire
Why is there sword through him?
apparently in this universe women wear bikinis for no reason
Awesome video awesome game!😎👍
I first played this when I borrowed it from my mate. First time around I could not beat Faustus and Sebastian. But I quickly got it. I quickly bought my own copy of the game too.
Marcus: You tried to murder me!
Kain: I seem to have failed. 😆 Simon Templeman, man. Such an underrated voice actor.
never forget, the hylden had to cheat in order to beat kain and his army. without the stone their lord dropped like the bug he was.
This game features a Young Kain going through the alternate timeline that Raziel and Old Kain created from Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
Thank you for these
Let's all admit it. This was the best game in the series.
I agree, it was the most fun out of them all.
