This is top shelf. Forget how good JD's solo was. His comping while Joe is singing, some players will never get how good that is. This kid is my new guitar hero. Oh ya, that 62 ES-335 is sweet to.
I cannot deny Bonamassa's talet but personally I think Simo's solo IS the blues. Patience, timing, spaces between the notes....... Reminds me of Doyle Bramhall II doin' Albert. Sometimes less is more Joe.
Seriously, I saw this fellow (JD Simo) down in Nashville with just a cord and a fender amp, and I can tell you, he can play ANYTHING!! Joe is correct, he IS the best out there right now...
JD's playing is so emotive. I could listen to him all day. Gotta give respect to Joe too for bringing a monster like that up on stage with him. No ego there.
Joe is smart because he always let's the other guy "punch" first and then he knows what he needs to pull out to leave a mark. Plus you hear Joe's solo last so it stays with you. Clever. Joe is a badass. Love JD too.
J.D. Simo is cool. I can listen to bombanassa in small doses. Very small doses. As long as he is playing and not talking or trying to shoot some silly tutorial.
Hey Tyro: I've finally figured it out. JD Simo is Jim Morrison without the drugs. Seriously. It's like a reincarnation. Too weird. That's a Gibson ES-335 from 1968 or so.
Lots of Blues greats wear a suit....1st one comes to mind is B.B. King....Albert King, Freddie King! Loose the bone in your nose would be a good thing!
mfitzster Even Blind Lemon Jefferson dressed like a banker. There have always been bluesmen who looked like bankers. Joe B. looks like a stockbroker on his coffee break.
+ironpirites either "Joe has no style of his own" or "Joe doesn't look right" it's always someone in the crowd knocking Joe while Joe just gets better and better and has played in all the right places with all the right people so I guess Joe is getting attacked by the wannabees
Taterly Saladman T-Bone Walker was another one who was a natty dresser. His photos show him as looking either show biz natty or foreclose your mortgage natty.
may be a good player but hes doing a terrible job of 'presence' here. Its like Ill just sorta wander around here till its solo time, then Ill wander some more, guys high or something. Connect with the band, as in acknowledge your not alone on the stage as he seems to think he is till like 4:00 in....maybe nod at the drummer, ummm look like your actually happy to be there, say hi to Joe, " so Happy to be here brother, lets kill this thing...' you know how most other professional players act when they sit in for a couple tunes. Especially if you are a new guitar 'slinger' such as he is, looking for a break no doubt, getting asked to sit in with the likes of Joe is a huge boost and his general demeanor is just another jam session Hes got great bluesy tone and touch, he sounds awesome, but so do thousands and thousands of other dudes. Probably many of then sitting in the crowd, and many more reading this. I did enjoy the way Joe kinda schooled him, not that he really tried to overplay, kinda gave him a couple of weird looks tho, probably thinking 'ummmm, dude, the bands all around you who are you looking for?'
if youve seen other footage of the dude, ud know hes got alot of energy, and anybody that talks about him says hes 1 humble musician that the world of musicians could use more of. he does his own thing. and how intimidating it must of been to be a nobody and be introduced by joe.
Devin Webb I didnt say he wasn't humble, and I could care less about how much energy he has, I said he looks lost, and he doesnt connect with one member of the band, the whole song, thats poor musicianship period. I dont care how humble or awesome he is, or how energetic he plays, my 'humble' opinion is he blew this. What will all the other players in the band remember about this gig? They will remember this cat that played great but couldn't connect with the band at all. and wandered around like he was jamming by himself. People like that dont often get invited back to play again.
Graiskye I think you are completely off base. I appreciate that you have a thing for Joe but I don't see Joe connecting with his band standing there like Frankenstein with his shades on. Joe does a bit of wandering himself from what I saw and for the most part just stand there playing and at really hot phrases doing his "I'm trying to shit my pants but can't" face. I REALLY hate to name call and "make fun" of the guy and I normally wouldn't but your comment struck a chord with me and we are taking about 'presence' here... something I see no trace of in Joe. Don't get me wrong Joe is a monster player and freak of nature, but I've been listening to his stuff for years learning licks here and there and everytime he comes thru town I literally FEEL nothing and have no desire to see him play. He's just..... awkward. JD is a TOTAL guitar nerd as much as Joe is but he's personable and I connected with his emotional playing instantly. I saw a JD on 'Premier Guitar Rig Rundown' for about 5 minutes last week and immediately looked for tickets in vain in my area. I've actually declined Joe tickets from a co-worker. Why? I submit that while Joe has disgustingly impressive technical skills, and his work has a measure of soul (on the surface), he projects ZERO real emotion. Forget connecting with the drummer or keyboard player halfway across the stage, CONNECT WITH ME!!!!! If we are sitting here comparing "presence" I would say that Joe has something to learn from JD for sure.
Then you sir need to open your ears a little more and listen to how good J.D. is. Fast chops don't make a great guitarist. Simo has twice the feel that Bonamassa has plus some.
bmp 226 I highly suggest you look up some more of Simo than just this video. Good luck finding another guitarist in all of Nashville that can play like him...
JD Simo: the best thing that happened to blues-rock since Paul Kossof !! \m/
Kudos Joe ! Keep on bluesin'
This is top shelf. Forget how good JD's solo was. His comping while Joe is singing, some players will never get how good that is. This kid is my new guitar hero.
Oh ya, that 62 ES-335 is sweet to.
I saw JD Simo play with Joe last night in Chattanooga. WOW!!! It was the best song of the entire show.... blown away by this guy!
I cannot deny Bonamassa's talet but personally I think Simo's solo IS the blues. Patience, timing, spaces between the notes.......
Reminds me of Doyle Bramhall II doin' Albert.
Sometimes less is more Joe.
Bonamassa is a machine Simo is an ANIMAL

Simo cool!!!
Love how Simo is strolling around the stage in his groovy clothes
JD's solo is so damn good!!!
Going to see JD play with the Don Kelly band was the only reason to fight the tourists, traffic, and find a place to park in downtown Nashville.
I played drums in Jeff's first band - Jeff Simo's Millennium Man Band when he was 13! He smoked the fret board then- he is the real deal!
Jeff is his name? What does the D stand for?
Both amazing players
...wow...did that sh*t just happen....JD is a beast!
LOL- I was playing with Jeff for a bit when he was a kid here in Phoenix.
Simo is great ! Who is the other guy ?
J.D. Simo is cool. I can listen to bombanassa in small doses. Very small doses. As long as he is playing and not talking or trying to shoot some silly tutorial.
I sure hope those sunglasses are for the stage lights.

That's a Gibson ES-335 from 1968 or so.
JD's is a '62.
1962 actually
I didn't know Doctor Who could play the guitar so well.
"Its Janis Joplin". Yes, Excellent Shout! haha
JD is playin from the depths of his soul....Joe is playin with a ruffled lapel ....what amp is JD playin through...small combo?
Looks like a Victoria amp to me.
Negative on the Joplin remark....JD looks like JD.
They're both on top of their game. Can JD sing?
Patrick Dehm he sing like jimbo.check out jd simo a little help from my friends
@@ruahproduction1739 Yes he can sing. He wear " a little help from my friends " out.
Can I has both of their guitars? I'd put them to good use....nah? ok
I miss Chuck Berry.
Feel will always triumph over playing 1000 notes per second. Don't agree? Refer to B.B. King.
Actually, it sounds like Albert King playing with Randy Rhoads.
Sounds like Albert King playing with Eric Clapton
lose the suit bluesman

completely true my b

In short... when Joe tells me he "just got paid"...... I just don't fuckin believe him.
dont really hear anything special in simo. joe, on the other hand, shows you how it should be done.
Then you sir need to open your ears a little more and listen to how good J.D. is. Fast chops don't make a great guitarist. Simo has twice the feel that Bonamassa has plus some.
he's ok but nothing you can't hear in any of a thousand blues clubs in the country. maybe you don't get out much. lol
bmp 226 I highly suggest you look up some more of Simo than just this video. Good luck finding another guitarist in all of Nashville that can play like him...
maybe ashville...
bmp-226 Spoken like someone who truly doesn't understand blues. Faster! More notes!
