That young guy with the Burst is evil! Plays like he is possessed! Totally blew up that stage!
Greg has so many original ideas...I dont think ill ever get bored listening to him.
Greg Koch is one the few who has soul and technique! He can play anything and it all sound good!
I love watching JD play guitar.
It's a shame johnny A's performance was not captured by most of it.
3 giant players, awsome!
Holy crapcock! That solo!! Just about the best I have ever heard. The one befor Koch
What I love about Greg Koch is that his solos sound like shrieking bats are bursting out of gates of hell, coming at you a million miles an hour!!!
SHRIEKING BATS COMIN OUTTA THE GATES OF HELL????? OI VEYYY! NOW WHAT?!?! THE BATS HAVE LEFT THE BARN,,, TOO LATE TO CLOSE THE GATE!!! NO WONDER SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE GONE ,,,,,,,, WELL ..................BATTY~!~!~!~
JD killed it! 🤘🏽
great players- Greg is always the most interesting to me- stretches out beyond the blues scale that so many are locked into
Some of the tastiest playing I've ever witnessed. God damn.
Greg is such a great player. On a totally different planet/level.
this ain't no american idol karaoke, this is a living breathing monster and it will devour you , oh hell yes
JD rocks. Great, great, great!!!!
Saw Simo with Tommy Emmanuel a couple of nights ago in Rotterdam. Simo solo is pure wickedness!
jd simo is a beast!
that was great 3 amazing guitarists and a great bass player as well-JD and Greg are 2 of my all times favorites-thanks for the upload
Oh... just... DAMNIT! The blues live on man.
+John Russom Jr. That's not really blues. It's rock. No problem for me. But
Blues is played with dynamics and soul, which I don't hear that much of in
this vid. Not one of those guys is a blues player, although they all cut their
teeth on it before they (quickly, for sure) moved on to the thrill and ego
stroking of rock guitar. It's all good. And Greg Koch is master of all styles.
Johnny and Simo couldn't outplay him together, let alone individually.
Great jam. Those guys are incredible.
If Greg Koch is on, every other guitarist on the planet should just go sit down and enjoy.
Insane playing.
Greg should be locked up for it.
Great stuff.
Great playin' by all here.
3:25 that's it! I love that lick.
August Lyons do you know what it's from?? I've heard it before but can't remember what song!
Three of my guitar gods on one stage. Oh my.
Wicked good
AMAZING cover ! ! ! amazing++++++ ! ! ! tnxxx
Thanks for capturing this. I saw them perform the previous night at the Les Paul 100th celebration, but sadly couldn't attend this.
JD!!! Yeah!
JD is amazing. The next big thing IMHO
trillriff-axegrinder how many times are you going to mindlessly repeat that comment? Also, Simo is a PHENOMENAL player with arguably more feel than anyone here. Greg is a master as well and every bit as good in his own way but certainly doesn’t “blow the doors off” Simo.
@@Dagger_323 JD can hang with just about anyone! 5 riffs? That mfkr is crazy!
Greg Koch is a beast!!
That rhythm section......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man I wish I'd have been there!
+Brad Carroll It was mesmerizing. SIMO will appear in Madison,WI on October 7 at High Noon Saloon.
Jay Dee SIMOooo the beast!!!!
Agree! He plays like he is possessed! I thought he blew up that stage!
Greg is a magician
+Evan Davidson but I have to say, on review,..that jd out shredded him!!! a worthy feat!!!...but...given another round it might have turned out differently...!!
Don't understand all the people shitting on Simo, complaining that he's repetitive. That's called motific development. You take an idea, place it over the rhythm and develop it by making slight changes after a few rotations. It's far better then most players who don't develop anything. Most players playing is like one giant never ending run-on sentence, with no musicality or rhythm.
Exactly... he's standing on stage with GK... he's gotta be doing something right.
Simo wins again
Jeff Beck's versions blow all the rest away.
*****
Listen, for instance, to Beck, Bogert & Appice "Live in Japan" version or to Jeff Beck´s version on "Live+".
Well, that was fun, dang...
💜💜💥💥💜💜
JD Simo..... by god.
Dude we get it you don't like what J D did you are the one repeating that comment of yours.
YeaHHHHHH
taste test for any lick delectable effort. l did smile
Jeeze
Simo! No hybrid picking slow monotonous guitar center blues here
Killin dat freddie king
That woman tone at 3:10 also
You just have smile and enjoy seeing Mike Stivek's grandson grinding out some high powered, mutant Page-Allman riffery.
P.S. Greggery Heggery Meggery is still thee Gristlemeister Supreme 🤙🤙🤙
I have to say when I read Greg Koch going down I was excited. Did not turn out like I thought it would
Has JD ever played at Summerfest? If he hasn't he should be. I looked at his site earlier this year and it didn't look like he was going to be in WI. this summer. Anyone know anything?
SIMO will be opening for Boston in Madison, WI on May 26, 2017. www.simo.fm/live/
Thanks for the info. I think that we will be up north at that time. Is he traveling with Boston the whole summer? Not a big fan of Boston, but would be worth it to see JD. Is he going to be in Minneapolis?
1:52 that Clapton lick👍🏻
Roland Ramirez that’s why caught your interest? Just wow. Out of all the insanely unique and cool licks you’re impressed by a 50 year old lick that’s played to death.
I swear someone built a time machine and went back to 1969 where they found JD Simo playing in a club ("The Plastic Fantastic Banana Emporium") with his band ("The Blue Shadow Cult")
Bit of 3G live album being quoted by Simo there. lol.
this is just simply marshall territory !!!JD ruled here for sure ,,although all are fantastic players.....was thinking jds tone is much bigger ...surely he's playing thru the marshall and sure enough at the end he goes to the marshall and greg to the super....someday joe will go back to his marshall's....atleast if he wants that big tone again....its all good though
Alien facehugger hand melting frets at the 3:55 mark !
Greg
The human voice is the greatest instrument. David Gilmour/Paul McCartney
It seems, these Fishman PU in Gregs Les Paul have no mids, it's sounding a little bit brizzling. But great playing anyway.
+Robert Bossart What do you think of the prototype Fishman Fluence PU's on Greg's telecaster?
ua-cam.com/video/BL1x9HpnGf0/v-deo.html
Seems to sound better, not that brizz. But difficult to say, 'cause the soundquality is not the best (room mic).
I had a similar impression. Thanks for sharing, I learned a lot about these new pickups. Innovative new development!
+Robert Bossart It's probably a combination of bad sound, and trying to get a tone that cut the mix and sounded different from the other guys HB equipped guitars.
is that Johnny A??
+Tyler Anselmo Yes, he was a special guest that night along with Greg Koch. The night before this show at the Les Paul 100th Celebration, the Les Paul Tribute All-Star Guitar Band led by Greg Koch with Johnny A, J.D. Simo, Willy Porter and Rick Nielsen played together.
ROOF! ROOF-WOOF! Guitar explosions... that may have just tilted the axis of music on its very head. What? ...can you dig it? (Screeching guitar lick from hell follows)
looks like a vintage paul there....??!!
+Evan Davidson Yes, that is Simo's vintage 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard burst. ua-cam.com/video/EOPENXWfy7o/v-deo.html
All fine players but I must say ... Going up against Greg is a tall mountain to climb. I mean nothing against any of the guys here, all great players, Greg is just from another place...
JD's staying in the same little area of the neck for "A long time"….A true talent. You don't have to be some king of shredding asshole to create a mood or convey your message. Freddie must be embedded in this guys head.
fire and brimstone out of JD s take was nice would make a nice way to end the whole song
Playing to an adoring crowd of teenage boys and middle aged white men.
Not entirely correct. Significant % of 25-34 years olds, and highest percentage of females are the teenager group!

These guys are good. But, man I miss Mike Bloomfield.
+lanes58 I concur. He never will be surpassed as a creative force in blues.
Really a shame he is so under appreciated. Better than Clapton, better than
Page. Not better than Hendrix or SRV, though. Bloomers had his own way of
doing it and was a master. RIP, my first favorite blues guitar player. And still
my fave.
Tough for anyone to follow JD even Koch
I think I shall dub Greg the "Wizard of Waukesha". Nice judicious use of different pickups, and the volume and tone controls. Well done sir. He's got those friggin' ET Fingers of his flappin' all over the place to bring us joy. I'd like to see him thumb wrestle Donald Trump aka tiny hands Drumpf. Pretty good stank face at the end of the solo too. JD Simo and Jhnny A were good too :)
Maybe Greg can take "Wizard of Wauwatosa", Waukesha native Les Paul has already been ordained "Wizard of Waukesha".
Nothing says I’m a idiot like bringing politics into a UA-cam video of the great Koch. Libs..... is there anything they can’t ruin.
Johnny A is a very, very good player but he's out of his league here. His signature
model guitars are awesome, though. Beautifully made and great sounding. Let's face
it - as much as Simi is working hard and ripping it up, Greg Koch blows them both away.
And makes it look easy.
Johnny A is a different type player than these two especially GK. No one can hang with GK, he's just too good. But, listen to some JA albums, very good.
+motokev I've known Johnny personally for 30 years or so and seen
him numerous times over the years, as well as having played with him
on a few occasions. He's a North Shore of Boston guy and it's a
pretty tight community. As I said, he's a very, very good player (better
than me, for sure) and in retrospect, I'd say he's certainly as good as
J.D. Simo. One of the things I've always loved about Johnny A's music
and playing is his sense of melody and also how he picks his spots to
lay the crazy licks on you. He's a dynamic player who uses his tone
palate well. But Greg Koch is in another league altogether. Just a mon-
ster player who does it all and is funny as a bastard, too. Cheers!
Yeah, I'm a fan of Johnny A. I've tried a few of his songs and have his albums. Even though GK impresses me with his playing I prefer JA music. JA does get amazing tone out of those Marshalls.
Simo was sick...🤦♂😷
Disgusting!!!! J.D. is ridiculous.
I'm kinda sick of this song. SEEMS like it's always played with a group of known guitarist. Not that I don't like the song, but overplayed..
j.d gets caught on a riff and cant seem to let go,kind of irritating.
very expressive, though, and smart too by Simo. Challenging someone like Greg Koch with virtuoso, rapidfire licks may easily backfire even on you!! I begin to like JD Simo more and more for his unpretentious, raw and heartfelt guitar style. No showcasing of licks like Bonamassa- Watch him play WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS with Tommy Emmanuel to see what I mean....Hope to see him one of these days in Germany.
Then go watch him play with Don Kelley :) JD is on another level
But lately I've been catching myself doing what you're mentioning, staying on one lick, and during some songs I think it's pretty cool. I agree this video he may have done it a little too much, but ain't nothing wrong with staying on a couple licks for a little bit!
All that blues mumbling phrases seems so boring comparing with Greg’s fresh ideas...
It’s a real shame Joe Bonamassa hasn’t seen this…after hearing these players he would have had no choice but to give away all his gear & spare us from his emotionless, boring, copy-cat, faux virtuoso, regurgitated McMusic.
OK I'll comment from the other end of the spectrum. I saw 3 good guitar players perform some very uninteresting solos over a common Jam Tune that every rock guitar player has done at some point in their playing career. The tones were not great unless you like Greg's 1960's fuzz box sound. I also have my uninspiring moments as well as most other guitar players. The solos were OK but not great. I've heard much better out of Greg. He's not a monster guitar player but he is bigger than most.

Ahhh gotta love all the BluesFest... Where noodling at home for 18 hrs a day for years finally pays off.
