    That "Fat" telecaster sounds amazing for this song, I've seen a few other show videos of him using it and that guitar is sweet indeed! And how can you not enjoy having Josh Smith as your side man? Thanks for sharing some of the show with us out here in Internet Land! And Madison is in my opinion the coolest town in Wisconsin, nice place to see a show.

    Going to see JD play with the Don Kelly band was the only reason to fight the tourists, traffic, and find a place to park in downtown Nashville.

    JD's playing is so emotive. I could listen to him all day. Gotta give respect to Joe too for bringing a monster like that up on stage with him. No ego there.

    I saw JD in Nashville when I was there for work a few years ago. A drummer friend I work with told me about him. I was coming out of Gruhn guitars after playing a few and was standing next to this guitarist at a crosswalk with a guitar bag over his shoulder and thought it was just another guitarist in Nashville. My friend and I met up at Roberts Western Wear to see this guy, JD Simo he was talking about, and out walks the guy I saw at the crosswalk. Flawless and effortless Country playing. Search UA-cam for "JD Simo, Roberts Western Wear". It's worth it!

    Joe is smart because he always let's the other guy "punch" first and then he knows what he needs to pull out to leave a mark. Plus you hear Joe's solo last so it stays with you. Clever. Joe is a badass. Love JD too.

    both are great, but joe's rhythm is usually too on-the-beat for me, kinda anal. j.d.'s got more swing. and he's got all the chops joe has and more.

    This is top shelf. Forget how good JD's solo was. His comping while Joe is singing, some players will never get how good that is. This kid is my new guitar hero. Oh ya, that 62 ES-335 is sweet to.

      Then you sir need to open your ears a little more and listen to how good J.D. is. Fast chops don't make a great guitarist. Simo has twice the feel that Bonamassa has plus some.

    may be a good player but hes doing a terrible job of 'presence' here. Its like Ill just sorta wander around here till its solo time, then Ill wander some more, guys high or something. Connect with the band, as in acknowledge your not alone on the stage as he seems to think he is till like 4:00 in....maybe nod at the drummer, ummm look like your actually happy to be there, say hi to Joe, " so Happy to be here brother, lets kill this thing...' you know how most other professional players act when they sit in for a couple tunes. Especially if you are a new guitar 'slinger' such as he is, looking for a break no doubt, getting asked to sit in with the likes of Joe is a huge boost and his general demeanor is just another jam session Hes got great bluesy tone and touch, he sounds awesome, but so do thousands and thousands of other dudes. Probably many of then sitting in the crowd, and many more reading this. I did enjoy the way Joe kinda schooled him, not that he really tried to overplay, kinda gave him a couple of weird looks tho, probably thinking 'ummmm, dude, the bands all around you who are you looking for?'

    • @devinwebb0
      @devinwebb0 10 років тому

      if youve seen other footage of the dude, ud know hes got alot of energy, and anybody that talks about him says hes 1 humble musician that the world of musicians could use more of. he does his own thing. and how intimidating it must of been to be a nobody and be introduced by joe.

    • @Graiskye
      @Graiskye 10 років тому

      Devin Webb I didnt say he wasn't humble, and I could care less about how much energy he has, I said he looks lost, and he doesnt connect with one member of the band, the whole song, thats poor musicianship period. I dont care how humble or awesome he is, or how energetic he plays, my 'humble' opinion is he blew this. What will all the other players in the band remember about this gig? They will remember this cat that played great but couldn't connect with the band at all. and wandered around like he was jamming by himself. People like that dont often get invited back to play again.

    • @devinwebb0
      @devinwebb0 10 років тому

    • @jrchris1121
      @jrchris1121 10 років тому

      Graiskye I think you are completely off base. I appreciate that you have a thing for Joe but I don't see Joe connecting with his band standing there like Frankenstein with his shades on. Joe does a bit of wandering himself from what I saw and for the most part just stand there playing and at really hot phrases doing his "I'm trying to shit my pants but can't" face. I REALLY hate to name call and "make fun" of the guy and I normally wouldn't but your comment struck a chord with me and we are taking about 'presence' here... something I see no trace of in Joe. Don't get me wrong Joe is a monster player and freak of nature, but I've been listening to his stuff for years learning licks here and there and everytime he comes thru town I literally FEEL nothing and have no desire to see him play. He's just..... awkward. JD is a TOTAL guitar nerd as much as Joe is but he's personable and I connected with his emotional playing instantly. I saw a JD on 'Premier Guitar Rig Rundown' for about 5 minutes last week and immediately looked for tickets in vain in my area. I've actually declined Joe tickets from a co-worker. Why? I submit that while Joe has disgustingly impressive technical skills, and his work has a measure of soul (on the surface), he projects ZERO real emotion. Forget connecting with the drummer or keyboard player halfway across the stage, CONNECT WITH ME!!!!! If we are sitting here comparing "presence" I would say that Joe has something to learn from JD for sure.
