I have an S21 Ultra and it's equipped with an LTPO display. The battery life gains are real, it's some good tech that I'm excited to see improved upon. While not jaw-dropping when it comes to improved battery life, it's absolutely noticeable in day to day use and I don't want to imagine how bad the battery life would be without the LTPO display. The large battery also helps, lol.
That is pretty annoying tho. LTPO is just a software feature, if one has it why can't the other one have it as well when they developed it ? It is on purpose to make the smaller version look worse and make you consider the pro model and i hate that. Not only are the best phones always larger for some reason damnit while i would love small flagship phone but the compromises of buying cheaper version often don't even make sense.
I agree with the in screen fingerprint comment! I have the fold 3 (upgraded from Note 9) and having the fingerprint sensor right where the power button is is the MOST ideal spot for it! I can easily take it out of my pocket and unlock it to use my mobile pay and immediately lock and pocket my phone without having to shuffle my hands around it AT ALL. My dad on the other hand just bought the S21 Ultra and realized his case isn't going to work with the fingerprint sensor and he can't use just any old cheap glass screen protector anymore like he could on his Note 4 because of the fingerprint sensor. Mobile companies need to scrap the in screen fingerprint sensor and just stick it under the power button. Most likely one of your fingers are going to be there anyways so why change it? Plus it's faster and more reliable. Admittedly I liked the idea of it at first but it seems like too much of a pain to me now. Forget about it and focus on improving something else like minimizing the camera bumps again.
The processor itself in the Pixel 6 pro isn't likely to be spec'ed out to be faster, but the larger frame + cooling system will allow it to reach higher boost clocks so it'll seem faster in exchange for more battery usage.
Headphone jack was a must until I finally caved and got the S20+... Bluetooth buds are really convenient. I just got some relatively cheap Tozo ANC buds and they sound great and last for quite some time. Significantly cheaper than the name brands. To be fair though, I rarely ever use them for music, just podcasts and YT, so a high standard isn't necessary there.
15:03 I think what you're hearing is the phone applying compression. I've been using a 3XL for ages and you'll notice the top two or three clicks of the volume slider on that one really change the sound as digital compression kicks in. It can make some high-end signal sound distorted, but it's definitely good at bringing up the low-mids. I was hoping they'd keep that for the 6/6pro because I haven't heard of other phones doing that and it's not like a "listed" feature!
Newer phones utilize their casings a lot for sound reproduction, especially bass. I've found that my Pixel 6 Pro sounds significantly better without a case on it, but I don't really listen to music with the phone speakers; that's what my Sony WF-1000MX4's are for.
What's it like going from the rear finger print sensor to the front? I've had a few pixels and love them, but am hesitant to upgrade because I really like it being on the back
I upgraded to a pixel 6 (previous Pixel 2) and the Sensor on the back is near twice as fast as the Sensor on the screen. I liked it way better on the back of the phone than on the screen
@@DynaDo yeah I got the original Pixel at launch and had it until the Pixel 4A launch which is what I'm using now. cracked my screen so I'm temped to upgrade but the finger print sensor location is a big deal to me. May just go with the Pixel 5 cause of the under screen sensor.
If you haven't switched yet, take it from someone who ran a Nexus 5X, Pixel 3 and now Pixel 6, it's jarring at first but you get used to it. I prefer it now because it can be used on a flat surface. You might hear that it's slower than the old one, which might be slightly true, but I find it took a week or so for it to find its stride and get really consistent. Even still, if it's a few milliseconds slower, it's not the biggest deal. People who complain about those microseconds of difference need to stop obsessively taking out and putting away their phone lol. It's perfectly usable.
@@skrufff I actually upgraded two weeks ago to the Pixel 6 Pro. Yeah for the first few days, it felt like I was constantly defaulting to the pin cause it kept rejecting my print. But eventually it either learned or I just got better at knowing where to put my finger
@@Irishrebel092 Nice! What was your previous phone? Mine was the smaller 3 and when I say the huge battery life is jarring, I mean it. Even when it was new it still barely survived a day. Today at 6pm after 3½ hours of SOT I'm only at 60%. Maybe I'm not used to bigger phones and their resulting battery sizes but it's a world of difference that I wasn't ready for 😅 I could probably go 2 days on this thing with light use
I ended up getting the Pixel 6 to replace my 3 (needed to for my job as the 3 doesn't get security updates anymore) and honestly, I'm not disappointed, but I really think that the Pixel 3 had a lot more life to give. Also I'm having to get use to the fact that the Pixel 6 is bigger in my hand and pocket. Also, I prefer the back mounted finger scanner, I agree the just feels better to use.
Im still sticking with my 4a once i get the screen replaced for the second time. Now if the 6a is like the 4a in size and features you bet i will get it.
I have a Poco F3. The default Gallery app identifies through AI persons in photos and remove it, yesterday I took a photo on a square and identified the 32 persons and erased them with far better results than what I saw on your demo. Folded optics are optics. Building microscopes, etc. you bounce lasers off all sorts of mirrors and through filters to shape the excitation light. It's just bouncing light off of mirrors.
I hate curved displays, make it harder to get a case or screen protector, the cost of a replacement screeen also goes up, it sometimes reflects lights at certain angles, the so call "benefit" of it being allegedly more ergonomic pales in comparison to the downsides. Take if from a former Galaxy Note 8 user.
Current galaxy note 8 owner here and I agree considering its 300 to replace my screen. I will say i wish that screen protector manufacturers would do better tho because if they stepped up it would be an amazing experience
I'm wondering why camera gets such attention in the r&d, marketing and in the reviews of the phone. I mean upgrading a camera system is good for the user but I think phone brands and reviewer should care more about other aspects of the phone because for a great share of us using the camera is rare compared to the web browsing / media consumption / sending chats etc....
I think smartphones have gotten about as good as computers in terms of media and web browsing. On the other hand, cameras still have a lot of room. They are no where near the level of mirrorless cameras, and because that, people are excited every year to see improvements of cameras.
It's rather simple, people carry phones around every day, but they don't carry dslr, so a phone with great picture quality is a must, because that's the camera only camera that will be around. On the other hand, cpu and gpu nowadays on phone is fast enough to run daily tasks without hiccups. The faster the cpu the better/faster image processing can get. My phone is galaxy note 8, and the only thing that makes it feel old is camera.
@@dagnisnierlins188 That's great and all, but can we get a phone that doesn't have a camera bump big enough to be it's own device? Or thicker phones to accomodate all that technology and maybe a bigger battery and a headphone jack?
Got to agree about the fingerprint sensors. Just upgraded from the S9 to the S21 Ultra and it's just awkward getting it to unlock using the underscreen one. The S9 was easy, I knew exactly where to put my finger as I picked up the device and if I missed by a tiny bit it was a doddle to adjust to the right spot as I could feel it under my finger. Now I get a half dozen errors because my finger is only partially on the sensor and I have to retry to get a good read. Maybe it'll be easier with muscle memory (it's only a week in at this point) but it's definitely a step backwards in ease of use imo.
I wish they wouldn't do camera bumps at all, I'd like the whole phone to be thicker to contain more battery. fill the negative space around the bump with a larger battery so the entire back side is flush.
Software toggles are useless for the camera and mic. If your phone's software is compromised then the attacker can use those toggles as well. They need to be hardware toggles that physically cut the power to the component.
But if your phone isn't compromised you can be sure that no app, whether you gave it permission to use the camera at some point or not, can access it while you are, for example in the bathroom.
Pre-ordered on launch day! Good priced phone from good manufacturer. I had the 2XL and loved it! Almost better than my Samsung S10+ and thats twice the price.
The problem with google assistant or translater is that it has difficulty to take 2 different languages at the same time. That's that why when Andy was mixing Chinese and English in one sentence, the translater was having a problem with English part, coz it was in Chinese mode first.
Just got my pixel 6, speakers are really meh and I do miss the physical buttons I had on my SONIM XP7, but it was time for an upgrade and this is very nice! I'm really loving the Ai functions, useful for my work. I also wish it wasn't a glass back, to but that is a personal preference.
I really wish the 6pro was just ever so slightly "more pro" with a slightly brighter screen and a couple of tiny improvements because I don't really like the design of the normal 6 but an extra £300 or £400 for the 256gb pro over base is a bit steep
That's interesting, I'm in a similar boat in thinking the pro isn't really worth the extra cash, but a big part of that reason is because I find all of the colours of the pro so boring. I'll be getting it in 'sorta seafoam', I think it looks awesome. I tend not to use cases!
Yea their pricing team really f'ed up here. I guarantee we'll see deep discounts on the 6 Pro by Black Friday. There is just no way enough people don't jump on the $599 Pixel 6 base model, as the $300 price hike for the Pro is laughable and offers nothing worth that much value to step up to that model. They should have priced it at $750 or $799 at the highest.
So we started with flush mounted cameras in phones, then bumps, then bulges, and now bars. What’s next? Flushing out the whole back of the phone and putting a bigger battery in? What a revolution.
Its just you can't trust a notoriously pravacy invading company with anything but hardware toggles. But that goes for any smartphone not geared towards true privacy. Still cool to see it though.
That's the problem when trying to translate a language that shares same pronounciation with multiple words like Chinese and Japanese, which happens a lot even when native speakers talking face to face. Unless the AI understands the context, this can hardly be solved I guess.
14:12 Okay, I just moved to a Pixel 6 from a Motorola G7 and, to my ears, the audio experience is like a complete paradigm shift. To the point where my usual sleep meditation stuff became kinda distracting because of how much more the sound filled the space around me.
Remember, not all headphone jacks are created equal, and you won't always get the same audio experience. There are USB C DACs that will give you higher res audio if you want to use a headphone jack. Initially, I kinda missed the jack but now there are dongles with High Res DACs you can buy for around 30 dollars. So, no matter what phone you upgrade to, you'll have high res audio.
@@GareWorks Google doesn't make the chips. They may design it, but it's TSMC/Samsung and a few other foundries that make the actual chips. And they already are at capacity. They may not have been able to order enough wafers

@@MrMozkoZrout LTPO is hardware.
The sponsor time was gold guys, dont skip it
The processor itself in the Pixel 6 pro isn't likely to be spec'ed out to be faster, but the larger frame + cooling system will allow it to reach higher boost clocks so it'll seem faster in exchange for more battery usage.
Just me who was expecting for a Honey segway sponsor when he said "Yes honey i'm excited"?

Headphone jack was a must until I finally caved and got the S20+...
Bluetooth buds are really convenient. I just got some relatively cheap Tozo ANC buds and they sound great and last for quite some time. Significantly cheaper than the name brands. To be fair though, I rarely ever use them for music, just podcasts and YT, so a high standard isn't necessary there.
@@Shibby7634 yeah once i got my first set of bluetooth buds i never went back to wired earbuds its just so much more convenient.

@@deelo721 no screw that im keeping the headphone jack it must stay
Is it possible to flash LineageOS on that Pixel 3?
Im still sticking with my 4a once i get the screen replaced for the second time. Now if the 6a is like the 4a in size and features you bet i will get it.
Same! As a one-hand user like Riley, the width of the 4a is _perfect,_ so if the 6a had the same dimensions as the 4a, I'm sold.
@@benjaminoechsli1941 4a is amazing and a well places fingerprint sensor honestly no other phone feels as good in the hand as it.

Also the edge lighting for notifications is nice
You have to understand they make everything easier to break, harder to repair to get more money from you.
Uh oh email leak wasn’t caught when the pairing headphones prompt came up.
I'm wondering why camera gets such attention in the r&d, marketing and in the reviews of the phone. I mean upgrading a camera system is good for the user but I think phone brands and reviewer should care more about other aspects of the phone because for a great share of us using the camera is rare compared to the web browsing / media consumption / sending chats etc....
then thats why u get a different phone

@@Momi_V It's not a big deal considering all the attacks and leaks have been only on Apple.

The problem with google assistant or translater is that it has difficulty to take 2 different languages at the same time. That's that why when Andy was mixing Chinese and English in one sentence, the translater was having a problem with English part, coz it was in Chinese mode first.

Yup. That was a reason why I liked Sony phones. They always kept the top and bottom bezels for their stereo speakers.
And still do.
Android 12's wifi on/off from the notification slider is a hassle
Hopefully they revert that back.
So we started with flush mounted cameras in phones, then bumps, then bulges, and now bars. What’s next? Flushing out the whole back of the phone and putting a bigger battery in? What a revolution.
Yup, I'm sure those software toggles for the mic and camera are super secure 😅
Why not?
Its just you can't trust a notoriously pravacy invading company with anything but hardware toggles. But that goes for any smartphone not geared towards true privacy.
Still cool to see it though.

Lol it translated Marie as 馬力 (ma li), literally "horsepower." I guess it still falls short when it comes to context
That's the problem when trying to translate a language that shares same pronounciation with multiple words like Chinese and Japanese, which happens a lot even when native speakers talking face to face. Unless the AI understands the context, this can hardly be solved I guess.
I purchased one a few days ago but estimated delivery is mid December. Cannot wait!!
