James has been walking around with a naked wrist since he started eagerly awaiting the release of the Pixel Watch ever since the early leaks from years ago. Is the watch everything the hype has built it up to be or is this watch disappointing even to our resident pixel fanboy?

I buy the Apple Watch always in stainless steel, for me it’s absolutely worth the cost. I might get the ultra too… spending this amount of money for something you use 23h/day (including sleep tracking and 1h charging per day) is absolutely worth it imo. On that note it’s less worth buying a expensive car that you drive not regularly. There the cost of ownership is much higher and the ROI is much lower.

I highly doubt the heart rate motinor is the issue. Google is using Fitbit's fitness tracking, and Fitbit devices have great battery life (6 days for they newest watches). With 50m WR the "watch can withstand splashes, shower and is suitable for swimming. It is not suitable for water sports, pool-side diving or sea diving." I wouldn't go near water with a watch unless it is at least 100m WR.
So I wouldn't recommend take this watch near water. It looks like water can easily go inside via the crown or button.

5 ATM means that a watch can withstand a pressure of 5 bar or a water column of 50 meters. In practice, this corresponds to the pressure of a flowing water jet when washing hands, showering or bathing. 5 ATM does not mean that a watch is waterproof to a depth of 50 meters, but that it can withstand the pressure of a water column of 50 meters. Because when swimming, the swimming movements can cause pressure peaks that are much higher than 5 bar. Due to these pressure peaks, only watches with the designation 10 ATM or higher are suitable for swimming.
