@@GregoryVeizades I legitimately can't drink Mtn Dew Code red because of the dyes involved. I sorta gag on it. My father could never handle one of the orange dyes (something to do with an allergic reaction when he was a kid or a poisoning related to something that used it).
I'd honestly love to see a version of this with the powder drinks. Seeing Linus' face on seeing/hearing the names of some of them would be gravy on top, I think.
That and gfuel powder is a lot better flavor-wise. It is an icy cold take of mine that gfuel should stop making carbonated canned drinks and just do pre-mixed powder in bottles. While the powder settles and would need a shake, the carbonation adds a "powdery" taste and texture that's just blech. Ligdonberry is probably the best flavor though.
See, these may enhance your gaming experience a bit, but the best gamer drink by a far is very clearly a good beer. Like, at least ten of them. It makes the game funnier!
The Prime he tried is the hydration branch, more akin to Gatorade than an energy drink. Has electrolytes instead of caffeine, probably why he preferred it
Luke would probably be too similar. You need to pitch him against somebody completely on the opposite spectrum for maximum effect. Shame Madison isn't there anymore, she'd be a nice antagonist for Linus. :)
They're the best, omg. They censured the burps with a "burp" kind of sound... still don't know how to describe that sound, but it was great to see Linus burping HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH. Love shortcircuit, btw
The gfuel powder is honestly better than the canned gfuel only downside is since there is no sugar if you get a basic flavored powder like cherry it just tastes like kool aid without sugar but actually drinkable
Gotta say, I've never really noticed tastes associated with specific dyes or sweeteners, but I've also never really tried to isolate the specific flavors of drinks. It was neat watching Linus dig through those.
Oh yeah, that's a thing. If you ever traveled outside your home country, try the same regular Coke from other places. You'll find that depending if it's syrup or sugar cane, or whatever artificial sweetener they use for their light variants, it's a totally different flavour! Fanta in Europe is so different color-wise, it's like orange juice colored!
Love Linus and love this video, but I can't help but feel like he just read the labels and just picked an ingredient to rag on. He already said that he doesn't drink energy drinks, so I have my doubts that he knows what these additives even taste like.
Rumour has it that Linus started running non-stop and climbing the walls after this and still hasn't been caught nor come-down from the energy drinks buzz!
In my opinion those plastic tops on the mountain dew cans are actually pretty genius. They reseal well enough to keep their carbonation so you can throw half a can into the fridge overnight. The only thing I have noticed is a tendency to spurt when you crack it open on the back.
Agreed, for the ridiculous price of the liquid, I always hated that energy drinks mainly came in cans and not easily resealable bottles. The slide tabs are a nice compromise. I think Linus was mad because it wasn't intuitive and it seemed like it was just for the sake of looking cool rather than being a way to reseal the can.
This will spawn endless reaction videos from the creators behind the drinks featured, and thus be free Floatplane advertising all across UA-cam. LMG are geniuses as always
If you think you don't consume caffeine but you drink tea depending on the leaf, brew strength, etc you're getting about 20-50+ mg of caffeine in that drink, around quarter a an of Monster or a about a single shot of espresso.
no one thinks that. Tea is the most consumed drink on this planet, then coffee, then beer, then soda...... everyone is on it man. it;s not a secret. we , as humans, freaking love caffeine. it's not a conspiracy.
No...this is one of those 'well actually' things that isn't accurate...I had to do a study unit on this (caffeine vs theobromine absorption) in college; Tea is about 50mg caffeine, yes. BUT it also contains Theobromine which binds to the same receptors as Caffeine (and therefore blocks some of the Caffeine's total absorption) Coffee contains MUCH less Theobromine but more Caffeine. So the difference of Caffeine between Tea and Coffee is more complicated than simply comparing Tea's caffeine content to Coffee's. The drugs also have different elimination half-lives in the bloodstream (Caff is slightly less than Theo IIRC) which adds a few other variables too P.S a quick google says that a shot of espresso is about 200mg caffeine, which makes a cup of tea about equivalent to 1/4 of an espresso, not quite an _entire_ shot. plus all the Theobromine stuff on top of that et cetera You get the idea.
Tasting stuff is too subjective is the problem, so the only value is that reaction, which will get diminished the more such things are tolerated. A better test would be gamer merch and tie in products where at least things like quality can be tested.
Having him suffer is fun, proven by Electro Boom heheh. But yeah, while it's all subjective and unreliable opinions, it's fun content. We get entertained, they get more views, win win. Why did win win sound like a horrible Windows idea...

Bawls original will always take me back to 2000's lan parties. My friends and I would order a case off Think Geek and drink it until we were shouting so loud my mom thought someone in the basement was on fire.
Same, man, same. I LOVED Bawls when I was in high school in the mid 2000's. Always got like 3-4 bottles whenever I went to my local lan cafe with friends. Although, not sure if they changed the formula or if my taste buds have completely changed since my teens, but after trying it again a year ago, it just didn't hold up to what I remembered it being.

Bawls is actually one of the best "energy drinks" imo, even though they market it as a guarana soda. Although they don't have what was the best one anymore the Exxtra was by far the best. But so was NOS charged citrus, and they got rid of that too. But nowadays energy drinks are just way too expensive, it used to be 2 for $3 at gas stations, now 1 is like $4

Mixing them doesn't matter at all to your health any more than drinking one does. The real problem with mixing is literally mixing two full cans of Monster, effectively doubling the caffeine you drink in a short amount of time, which can cause serious side effects depending on your tolerance to caffeine. If you mixed half a Monster Red with half a Monster White, you'll still have the same amount of caffeine as one can of Monster. So no problem there.

Only tried two so far x-gamer because they are based in Sweden thus shipping bullshit is skipped for the most part. The bundle i bought was really cheap on sale like 19$ with 20 packets of flavors & a shaker. (some were 2 of the same packet ofc.) (Shaker i stopped using though as the flavors has kind of stuck too the plastic of it so it smells of like 5 different flavours now, which is just how the plastic itself is, think its called bpa ? I'll probably need too do it similar too how you clean protein shakers with hotwater & bit of vinegar & baking soda mixed into the shaker & leaving for like 30 minutes too break that down but eh i got soda bottles i can use for now.) It's been lasting a bit over a month though drinking one every few days. Otherwise I've only had the free samples from gamersupps, which were good for being free, waited with ordering until i got the free shipping code. paying 10$ for those packets i felt was a bit much too try it out. 1st place for Blue Razz from Gamersupps after you let it sit for like a day or so in the fridge, 2nd being the mango meta i think it was called & third the dragonfruit punch, dragonfruit one is a bit overly sweet for my taste. X-gamers offers I'd go Sakurafuri & sour cherry twist taking 1st place. I like cherry flavored stuff in general & rarely get or buy it so ofc it's at the top. 2nd place Horus & nightshade 3rd shared with Steves Apple & Ginger Queen. 4th is kind of shared between Dark Rush, which again their raspberry isn't great, liquorice is there but bit meh personally, i like salty liquorice more then the sweet kind, but acceptable too drink while eating some. & cape town (swiss roll flavour, which fits well with most chocolates like a kitkat or similar wafer chocolate bar, wouldn't rank it great for drinking while eating breakfast heh.) Worst I'd say blue nitro (Blue razz knockoff but a bit more bland overly sweet taste, maybe i need too mix it stronger with less water on this one, i can at least finish it off over like 1 hour or so at least.) gummilicious (Supposed too be gummybear flavored.) But it just reminded me of like some variants of childrens toothpaste which is a bizarre flavor too drink as you can imagine. Got one packet left which I'll try mixing a bit stronger too see if that helps it anything, otherwise it's just getting poured out into the sink.

I am SO SO happy that I have just drank all possible drinks so my taste buds are just messed up. Being like Linus saying “i hate red dye 40” is just something that I could not live with !
Same. I tried a prime once and it far exceeded my expectations. It was quite good when I was just expecting a Gatorade-like flavor. Not sure how I feel about financially supporting Logan Paul though 🤣
Id be curious to see someone try the powder energy/gaming drinks. Linus might be more inclined to like them since they are usually more like a gatorade sort of flavor and not carbonated. Brands would probably be Gfuel again, Glitch, Sneak, Rogue, Ghost, of course Gatorade as the OG, maybe throw Kool Aid to throw it back to when we were all children who loved going to a friends house because his parents let him have rated M games like Mortal Kombat
Original Monster might be one of the most vile tasting beverages ever created, the "Zero Ultra" or whatever they're called taste pretty good if I have one once in a blue moon
Tbf, they are pretty trash. If you're gonna drink something sugary pretty much everyone can easily find a fruit juice that tastes better than any of them.
Gamersupps is alright but expensive buy for me, (15$ shipping on top of the product price is a bit meh for me.) So I've only ever done the free samples when i got a free shipping code, probably would go for blue razz tub at some point, maybe the caffeine free one. X-gamer is a more recent purchase, got it the 28th where i bought a pretty decent package that was on sale with 20 single drink packets that were 2 of each & a shaker for 20$ on sale. Bundle is called gamer essentials 1.0, which i wouldn't say is bad atm either. Kind of went into it with a bit questionable expectations, like i wouldn't buy it again if i only like 2 of these flavours & the rest of the packets are garbage I'd rather pour down the sink. Sakurafuri, sour cherry twist, horus, nightshade, capetown, ginger queen & steves apple, dark rush. Are all good flavors I'll probably pick up a sakurafuri tub here around January or maybe at the end of December. Gone through 11 packets since the 28th november & just mixed the 12th which I'll leave until tomorrow.

That and gfuel powder is a lot better flavor-wise. It is an icy cold take of mine that gfuel should stop making carbonated canned drinks and just do pre-mixed powder in bottles. Agreed, for the ridiculous price of the liquid, I always hated that energy drinks mainly came in cans and not easily resealable bottles. The slide tabs are a nice compromise. If you think you don't consume caffeine but you drink tea depending on the leaf, brew strength, etc you're getting about 20-50+ mg of caffeine in that drink, around quarter a an of Monster or a about a single shot of espresso.

well yeah, all tea has caffeine in it.

@oliverdurgen5953 nah a lot of people don't seem to be aware of much caffeine their tea has
No...this is one of those 'well actually' things that isn't accurate...I had to do a study unit on this (caffeine vs theobromine absorption) in college;
Tea is about 50mg caffeine, yes. BUT it also contains Theobromine which binds to the same receptors as Caffeine (and therefore blocks some of the Caffeine's total absorption)
Coffee contains MUCH less Theobromine but more Caffeine. So the difference of Caffeine between Tea and Coffee is more complicated than simply comparing Tea's caffeine content to Coffee's. The drugs also have different elimination half-lives in the bloodstream (Caff is slightly less than Theo IIRC) which adds a few other variables too
P.S a quick google says that a shot of espresso is about 200mg caffeine, which makes a cup of tea about equivalent to 1/4 of an espresso, not quite an _entire_ shot. plus all the Theobromine stuff on top of that et cetera

1:51 Monster gotta try the other flavors
I find it always interesting of how everyone has their own acquired/preferred taste, I know this is weird but these drinks are much like alcohol in a way. It’s an acquired taste for alcohol while soda pop, energy drinks, etc. all are preferred by different people. Always fun seeing what other people think of a drink of let’s say I like, and how they perceive it and what they think it taste like
yea my heart was shattered when he didn’t like the monster 😭😭😭
@@pedigreed6397 IMO monster or just energy drinks in general just taste bad lol
@@pedigreed6397 I like monster so much that I haven't had it in almost a decade because I was borderline addicted to it to the point where I was drinking it several times a day every day. Definitely not good for my health.
@@jackmanleblanc2518 I would never drink any sort of energy drink or energy drinks in general multiple times a day. I love monster, and always will. I've spent way too much money collecting unique monster cans and will probably never stop. I've imported them from across the globe just to taste a new flavor or to get another can on my collection shelf.
Even with that, I still drink monster maybe once or twice a week at max. No more, it's way too unhealthy to be consumed more than that. I can admit that I'm addicted, but I would never get far enough for it to become a very unhealthy habit let alone a financial crisis in my life. At that point, something would be wrong with me and I would stop. This, however, I'm fine with.
@@opeltulikylkee7479 Oh yeah. I haven't drunk an energy drink on purpose since I stopped drinking Monsters back then. Sometimes a friend will offer me one and I'll accept, but I always deny Monsters because of how obsessed I got with them way back then. I think it's safe to say that any obsession/addiction I had back then is all but gone. Some might say coffee replaced it, and I love coffee, but I can and have gone without caffeine for several days and never missed it.
I'd like to thank the editor, v2FINALFINAL, for their great work on this video

cool idea! i was a bit disappointed to not see any popular powdered stuff like gfuel and gamersupps, since from what ive heard from friends theyre actually quite good and the nutrition seems less atrocious
gamersupps especially is in general a lot better for you than the others featured here. i would've liked to see them do this but I understand why since they would have to buy a whole tub that probably no one would want afterwards
I love that at 4:00 they beeped "this" instead of the word they were trying to bleep
I would have loved to see a five-minute clip of the camera following Linus around the rest of the day to see how amped up on caffeine he got. If he truly does not consume caffeine normally then all those little sips should have had a big impact on him.
I never consume caffeine and had 70mg of it once. Didnt feel any different
i used to have 2 cups of strong coffee every morning. quit caffeine years ago. now if i have a single can of regular coke (36mg in 12oz) i can feel the effects for hours afterwards.
Original Mountain Dew is the REAL SUGAR version was 1st called THROWBACK because I was raised off a 2 liter bottle until I was 18ish when sugar went to corn syrup and I stick to juice, coffee mostly [was 7 sugar and milk, to just milk], water, and tea on occasion
In "highschool" we made a study about marketing in energydrings where pretty much the whole school tried different energy drinks covered and redbull, monster and some local energy drink scored worst covered, but monster and redbull were top 5 uncovered. But this study brought nothing to the table as we had a "control", like one energy 3 times per taste test and almost exclusively they were rated differently. I think the most extreme difference was 8/10 and 2/10 for the same drink by the same person on the same taste test
It's the same as most people notbeing able to tell the difference between Coca-Cola and Pepsi or even cheap offs when not told.
@@LoganCovers91 We, here in Finland, have something we call "diarrhea coke", which is a slang way to express this essentially very very cheap drink that is almost like a worse version of Coca Cola. For the price of a single 1 liter bottle of normal Coke, you'd be able to get 2 liters of this stuff. This is what people buy, it doesn't taste exactly the same, there's something wrong with it and it's quite a lot worse than regular coke, but that is a damn good deal for something that is basically Coca Cola. You can notice the difference, but when it comes to choosing it in stores, most people would choose the cheaper option.
@@opeltulikylkee7479 dude, coca cola tastes like nothing so its quite obvious people buy pepsi or storebrand
@@opeltulikylkee7479 but why
@@LoganCovers91 We tried that with a few friends and all the people that regularly drank coke could immediately point out which one was coke, coke light, pepsi, off brand cokes. Hardest was coke zero and pepsi max

The GFuel Sonic peach ring flavor is actually pretty great if you enjoy peach. It does have a small bit of the artificial sugar aftertaste, but it’s FAR less offensive than most zero sugar drinks I have had. I find it helps to have it as cold as possible before drinking it. I usually throw mine in the freezer for a half hour before opening it.
That was my favorite of all of the G fuels I've tried. The others weren't good. Peach rings initial taste is that of a peach ring, with minor artificial aftertaste. I recently bought some of the G Fuel powder, and it's so much better than the stuff in the cans. No artificial aftertaste. It's almost like you're drinking caffeinated kool-aid. So far I've tried Bubble Gum, Hype Sauce, Watermelon, and Blue Bomber.
Strawberry Shortcake has that same feeling with a small aftertaste however is still pretty great!
That flavor actually makes me nausea.
Gfuel is so bad lmao

I remember when my son was like 3 or 4. We took him to Tahquamenon Falls in the U.P. of Michigan. They have Lower and Upper Falls., well visited the Lower Fall first. Myself, wife, daughter, and son stopped at the snack shack for quick drink and snack. My son got a Hershey Bar for his snack. Me an my wife didn't think much about. The 20 minutes or so it took us from traveling from the Lower Falls to the Upper Falls my son had a big sugar rush going on. All the other tourist had good time watching as my son was ball of energy, as we tried to keep up with him. All the smiles, and looks as if they had been there and done that. It was crazy, so I can only imagine what Linus was like for the rest of the work day. Hopefully it was near the end of the work day. Feel sorry for Yvonne and kids having to deal with caffeinated Linus afterwards.
I only ever occasionally buy some soft drinks and usually stick to local brands, which are quite common here in Germany. Though recently also mostly without any caffeine in them unless I need to be alert at any cost for stuff like soldering around in my consoles and then can crash after in peace. It's definitely having an effect cutting back on caffeine in general and handling soft drinks like an occasional treat.

avid drinker of energy drinks here (yes i know its unhealthy) and yes, temperature is a big factor with energy drinks, drinking a room temperature monster may as well be a sin
Drinking a cold beverage makes it taste better, don't remember exactly the reason right now.
It's the reason why soda companies usually recommend you to drink their stuff cold, and if you ever have to take some liquid medicine that's not affected by the temperature of it then making it cold is a good way to make it more tolerable to drink
@@TheBaxes pretty sure it's because your body tends to process things that are closer to body heat better/differently, meaning you can taste more of the unplasent flavours in the drink
@TheBaxes cooler temperatures make the taste buds slightly numb so you feel less flavor, particularly bitter and sweet.
