I bought both Pixel 7 models and can confirm that the modem performs much better. I have better reception and the phones get noticably less hot.
The enhanced voice isn't rolled out on production branches. If you enroll in the beta program you can totally use it, but going to the phone dialer settings.
James reviewing phones, always nice.
Thank god it’s James
It is because of the screen sizes, I am stuck with the A models with reduced features :( Waiting for the Pixel 8a in hopes for a better processor and not too big screen.
To be fair, the only real thing the 6a is missing is high refresh rate, which may or may not matter depending on the person
@@PaperReaper and the much better cameras, and a few software features even compared to the 6 series
@@Samsonfs are the cameras even that much better? I heard the saturation is all over the place. What software features? The whole zoom thing? Honestly who cares
@@PaperReaper significantly more headroom camera wise, much better low light, much more detail, better natural bokeh, no motion mode/long exposur, slightly worse ultrawide, less colour accurate display ect ect
Upgrading from the Pixel 3 to the Pixel 7 Pro and yeah the phone is massive (at least going off the case which arrived yesterday, phone won't actually be here till later in the week) in my tiny hands
I would be doing the same. The P3 is the perfect size. I'm not trying to watch "Dune" on my phone lol.
Having gone through the "iPhone" and then the "I'm smarter than iPhonies so I buy the most expensive Android" phases, this phone is perfect for me.
That digital camo skin looks amazing!!
As someone who recently upgraded from the 3a to the 6a, I really miss the lightness and smallness of the older pixels, the 2 was too small, but past the 3 they were good, ever since the 5 though they've been gargantuan, and my current 6a is super heavy and big, it's the only thing I don't like about it.
Did the same exact jump and I miss the light weight of the 3a, but I do like the crazy battery lofe on the 6a
It's kinda ironic that I'm still using the exact pixel 4 he is using in the exact color. With an exact naked wrist.
I'm thinking about getting this phone but I'll wait for a few updates. Last year those got me :(
The new dbrand skin looks sick! I usually prefer mate black but I might get the new camo!
Pixel 6 bugs? My pixel 6 actually froze on the powering up screen about a month after i got it. Not super impressed with this phones
I think that's something that google does really well. If you look at some new iPhone, you might not be able to tell which generation it is, just based off the looks. If you look at a Pixel 6, you can say, "Oh yeah, that's definitely a Pixel 6."
Would love to hear your feedback on the one major issue of connectivity that plagued the Pixel 6/6Pro last year. Thanks!
Carrier specific issue was it not? never had that problem over here.
@@rick-potts No, I think many Pixel 6 phones had dropped calls, poor call quality, and bad reception, regardless of the carrier. So I'm just interested to hear if that's still an issue because that's a major issue for a phone
@@TeamMystic851 Oh...can't say Ive experienced that. Heard about it in the early days in the US, but never experienced it myself.
It has a much better Samsung modem
@@rick-potts Thanks! Would love to hear ShortCircuit's thoughts too
The picture at the end will never leave my nightmares. Thank you.
Swell vid gang
Waiting for mine as well, jumping from a broken Pixel 4 XL to the 7 pro, plus the watch, I'm stoked
Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression phones use glass backs now because they are better for wireless charging, no?
That is correct
When video stabilisation options are switched ON, the video is a little bit zoomed. You can get a wider field of view in video if you switch off stabilisation. By doing so, you will lose all stabilisation features such as cinematic mode, etc. At least that's how my Pixel 6 Pro camera works.
They do seem more tempting, might get one on my next upgrade
Waste of money for Fashionistas...but that's just me, I'm using a 2018 phone that's fine. We have a Pixel 4 with a cracked screen that's just fine.
@@raylopez99 nobody asked
@@raylopez99 The Pixel 4 will stop receiving security updates this year, so it really isn't okay to keep using it if you plan to use banking or work apps on your phone.
@@JollyOldCanuck Interesting. My partner has been nagging me to buy a new Pixel, as a fashion accessory, so if this is true she'll be happy.
@@raylopez99 Wtf, just get a new phone that is good enough for you and stop bothering people about how "fashionable" it is
Finally the first Tech-UA-camr who says „I kinda hate glass backs“ . Thank you for this! 🙌🏼
Pixel 6 was the last time I buy a Pixel right after release, what an absolute car crash that was.
Same, I'll wait for the pixel fold out of curiosity but no way I'm going to the 7, still cuss out my pixel 6 daily in frustration 🥲
@@elMoignon lmao, I don't blame you pal, I was so happy when about 4 weeks in I smashed it to bits, and because it was still so new, insurance couldn't get me a replacement so gave me cash haha, got a Realme GT 2 Pro, shits all over it and for less money. I had nonstop issues, connectivity, random reboots, battery was terrible, apps would just freeze and lock the phone, fingerprint scanner was a crap shoot, and for the size was really top heavy and horrid ergonomics in the hand, just the worst phone I've ever owned.
That's not fair to the Pixel 7 but I understand where you're coming from with the reasoning
@@BrianGlaze I guess so pal, hopefully they've ironed out the issues I had with the 6, but like I said, this realme is 2/3rds the cost and probably the best phone I've owned in many a year.
Is best to wait 3-4 months.
Totally ballsey to do a selfie test with that cist on your lip, that's some ultimate you tube!
Great video
This ShortCircuit was better than the last one. :)
One thing I wish phone manufacturers would adopt from Apple is having a "Pro" version in a large and small size... a smaller P7P would be so nice.
A nice refresh, but not enough to get me to switch out my Pixel 6. Good review as always.
Just upgraded from the pixel 5 to the 7. So far so good, but I really do miss the back fingerprint scanner and the interactions that came with the scanner.
being able to swipe notifs up and down with finger sensor, love it on my 4a
One major issue I had with the Pixel 6 (and went through three phones) was that when you have the screen set to very low brightness, grays weren't consistent. One phone the entire bottom half of screen was red. The second the right half of the screen was green and the third the left side green.
How's the Pixel 7?
It's basically exactly the same meh rigid oled panel, so it'll still potentially have the rainbowing off axis and poor low light performance, however it's probably slightly newer and with slightly updated display drivers. It'll still be one of the weakest aspects of the phone
thank you very much... you are the only one who actually showed what the Zoom lens system quality looks like on these cellphone cameras that was my main search 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
It feels weird to think that Google has been out of it for a while with regards to their phones. Obviously they’ve had good budget phones, but the flagship models haven’t been up to snuff with the competition for the last few years.
bUt tHe aI
pOwEr iS uSElEss
Their phones are intentionally behind the competition and the excuses really show the lack of integrity in the reviews.
The grey color of the earbuds is actually called Fog, not Hazel
Going to wait a few months to see if what they messed up this time matters to me 👀🤣
It isn't a Pixel if it doesn't have some sort of major issue.
@@CodyKloepfer the 3a exists
@@CodyKloepfer What was wrong with the 3? I had several
I'm with you on the screen size James. I went from a quite big Moto G9 Plus to a Pixel 6a, at first It felt small but I now much prefer the smaller screen size on the 6a and when I pick up my parents G9 Plus it feels absolutely huge in my hand
Pixel phones have graphene os. Switch to it. Waiting for 7 support since it just came out.
Honestly once you go to a larger screen phone, it's so hard to go back, more room for a bigger battery and easier typing too
I know that gaming isn't the main focus for many of these devices, but I feel that it is a valid point of discussion considering that mobile games are becoming more and more graphics heavy.
Because of the pure scams they are. Gambling and microtransactions destroyed games. Just pretty stores now.
Finally upgraded from my Pixel 3xl to a Pixel 7 Pro. I love it so much! Such a nice upgrade!
What other backside material is even viable on new phones besides glass? It cant be metal, otherwise wireless charging wont work and it cant be plastic because it would feel waaay less premium.
Plastic definitely can feel "premium"
plastic is definitely the best material function-wise
ceramic might come second but still, ceramics will break like glass when falls
Finally upgrading from my 4, honestly pretty excited
Man Apples new android lineup looking great
And I’ve been waiting for this video for so long
My only complaint is that the Pixel is just too big. I wish more smartphone manufacturers made smaller phone like 6´1 inch
Well the pixel 6a exists and it's exactly 6.1 😅
They're probably gonna do the 7a too
Me too! That's the only reason I get the A models, but I get reduced features :(
@@thunderarch yeah but it would be cool to have all the flagship features in a small phone
You forgot to mention the ultrawide on the pro also has autofocus, whereas the non-pro one does not
The price difference between the 2 is more than I spend on my phones
Thanks for the comparison man
The update I'm waiting for is for companies to start doing no notch or hole punch display. I went from the OnePlus 7 pro to the Xperia 1 III, there's no way I'm going back to screen interrupted displays.
Hole punch is here to stay until under display cameras aren't dogshit
how do you like the Sony phone?
@@michaelcrisafulli6034 I like it a lot. The one complain I have is that there isn't a 1 second software block for the fingerprint scanner when turning display off. Often times, the display unlocks as soon as I press power button to lock it. I have to use pinky finger to lock it. Also, the price is a lot for someone that doesn't care much about the camera. I just do point and shoot so I feel I overpaid. But whatever, as long as I don't get a hole punch.
Watching the video with my Pixel 7, absolutely love the thing! A game changer for me!
They used 18w for generations. Switched to 30w last generation.
True
I had a Pixel 4a that i got in March 2021 and I lost it in September 2022, I then got a base pixel 7 when it came out. I've been using the base for Almost 2 Months now and it's been a huge upgrade from my old phone. I noticed the night site is better than my old phone, the camera is less noisy, and it's faster and less glitchym
I have an Pixel 5, I had an Pixel 3XL. I wanted a Pixel 7 (smoll) but get another big chunker :(. Why are smartphones so big? I dont see any series on it, thats what I have an laptop / Ipad for/ tv / Monitor for. Take photos, some ShortCircuit videos and memes.
Also to remind myself when I buy an Pixel7 ( SAK get that Glitch Camo from Dbrand, it hurts your eyes but so does it hurt others)
the pixel 5 is such a perfect form factor :(
I went with the regular 7 in that sharp Snow color. Glad Google finally improved brightness on their phones and added face unlock which were two of my biggest issues with the 6 and older. Then I’m hoping that clear calling feature will work because call quality was horrendous on my 6a and why I’m gonna sell it. Both of these look like while not groundbreaking to be great upgrades.
- Correction - Glass Backs are NOT slippery. Glass with fingers (natural oils and texture) provides TREMENDOUS contact . Myth that they are slippery vs a soft textured back.
Still have my pixel 3XL I don't want to give up front facing speakers. Might upgrade if they release a smaller version of the pixel 7
I love the pace of this review video, gets the point across without infantalising the viewer
you guys are making me think of upgrading from my pixel 2, but it was so expensive that I want it to last 8 years :(
Liking the new angle for short circuit!
Big cons:
1 should have went with the imx 989 sony camera sensor even if they had to remove the ultra wide on the cheaper version and have only one camera
2 no variable refresh rate on the cheaper version common google it's a must for battery efficiency
3 the god damn Chin c'mon google you did it right in the past why ruin something so wonderful as symmetrical design
You are not alone. Only reason I'm hesitating on the 7 pro is the large screen.
agreed
You’re definitely not alone, I went from the iPhone 12pro to 13mini. I’m getting a little tired of all these Phablets knocking about. Now my phone feels more utilitarian and like a ‘gadget’ with all this tech in such a small package, it’s great.
I do get the use-case need for larger devices however, as people do like AIO devices, but for me my phone is for communicating and quick searches when needed. It’s only the odd video I’ll watch on the go as most of my media content is consumed at home on the tv. So it’s a shame that smaller versions aren’t readily available, I was gutted apple discontinued the mini series, opting for a 14max but going off their recent sale figures, I’m fairly confident the mini series will return.
Hows the mini's battery life ? curious...
Not so good on 15.7 or 16.0.2… I get about 7 hours before mines done
@@thunderingeagle it’s obviously not as good as larger phones, you have to be selective with what’s processing in the background. Also, I’m now more diligent in closing apps after use.
I’m currently visiting NY and yesterday I was taking pics, videos and using maps to see where things were and it lasted from 10am - 8pm.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned off all day, just used data switching between 4&5G.

I've been waiting patiently for this video
Finally someone picked up the issues glass backs cause... Also, please apeak up abt lack of 3.5mm jacks on phones...
No mention of the astrophotography mode? It's amazing.
James is so cool. He reviewed Google's products wearing adblock tee shirt. Classic.
when do u ever reach the top?? its not an iphone where u gotta pull from the top to bring up qucik settings and notifications
Also hole punch pulsing was trying to use face unlock, i believe.
I'm one of the minority (probably the only one) who still wants a Bezel on their phone screen so I've not owned a Pixel since the Pixel 3. It's annoying that charging your device is now an optional extra, but it is nice that you still get a USB-A to C adapter with the devices because you build a collection of them meaning you don't have to buy any when your device has all USB C ports, or for some reason want to use a USB A device with your phone.
That color isn’t hazel. That’s just grey.
Can't lie , call quality on the pixel 7 pro is the best I've ever experienced
8:01 i tell you exactly why:
because it's annoying if it just unlocks, if all you wanna do is check your notifications/time real quick.
I'm that guy, I like me lock screen lol it's neat, quick and tells me everything i need to know.
WOW!!! The zoom is amazing!!!!! :O
Finally someone said glass backs are the worst. Thank You
