    I built a truck camper in 1967. Did it in the open in a trailer park with none electric hand tools. I saw you doing this in your driveway and I had to watch. Your skill and ingenuity far surpassed mine.
    GREAT JOB! Enjoyed the series

    Blows my mind that I spent $45k on a brand new Ute and I’ve got to spend $300 to fix a diabolical factory throttle.
    BUT I’m super glad there’s at least a solution to soggy throttle syndrome

    I've also seen folks build in storage for a 4-6ft folding table on the underside of the bed area where it overhangs the cab. With brackets on each side it slides in then has a locking mechanism so the table can't slide back out. I am gonna build one on mine. In addition to a fold down side table for cooking. But if you need more table space it is a nice idea that you can do easily.

    • @The_Bearded_Lady

      is there enough room between the wall and where the table folds up to store the stove? if you made a tiny bracket/holder for it?

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  8 місяців тому +1

      I’ve thought about adding a table holder under the overhang, but it’s not very big. I have a table that I strap inside the camper when traveling that works well. Thanks for watching and commenting, TbT

      I have added an upper fold up/down shelf since I’ve filmed this video so no room for that. I think our camp kitchen is pretty good for now. A few more trips to dial in and maybe add some stuff if needed then. Thanks again for watching and commenting, it’s appreciated. TbT

We started with ground tents many years ago, moved up to a RTT and now the camper. Check out my older Roof top tent builds for some inspiration. Take your time, figure where your money is spent best, build your own if you can. Good luck and thanks for the sub, views and comment. TbT ✌🏻

      Thanks for watching. The camper is about 750lbs dry weight. I don’t have a heating system, we live in Southern California and don’t really need heating with the insulation. We use a heater buddy if it’s cold enough, but that’s almost way too hot. 🥵 Good luck. TbT.

    Hi I like how your making all your campers. I have a Chevy Avalanche that I would like made into one. Just gotta get some suggestions. I have the mid-gate that folds down and it opens the backseat for more space. If you have any ideas that would be great . Thanks

      Thanks. The best advice I can give is measure everything in you truck bed and make lots of drawings before you build. I’m not super familiar with that truck so taking your time and planning it out would be my best advice. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    I'm really curious about if the metal strips (between fixed wall and foldable wall) work 100% against water coming in? Did it rain since you build it 😂...i red you from cali so idk if its raining there from time to time :)

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  5 місяців тому

      Ha! Yeah we kind of plan our trips around the rare rain down here. It works fine, been in rain up in Oregon. The wall has weatherstripping all around that seals when closed and the folding wall has a rubber 1” overlapping drip edge to help prevent any water entering that seam. We haven’t been in anything crazy (sideways rain) but so far so good. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT

    Whats your mpg like with and without the camper? Also how much does it weight?? I'm looking into building one

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  8 місяців тому

      I get right around 18mpg (freeway) about 16mpg (in town) depending on the season - California has 2 types of fuel, winter and summer blend. Summer blend is better. The camper weight is right around 750lbs before its loaded with stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting... good luck with your build. TbT

    • @mrdorjjav
      @mrdorjjav 8 місяців тому +1

      @@TravelingbyTacoma yeah I'm in Sacramento, thats great mpg with that, I thought air dynamics would get you horrible mpg

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  8 місяців тому

      Well... I drive pretty slowly lol 63 to 65mph almost always, which really helps. 70+ there is no way I get that. Above 70 the mpg goes way way down. Proper tire inflation with the weight of the camper helps too.

      Loaded for a weekend’r camping trip and both of us in there, it’s right about 5700lbs... last we weighed a few months back. Lighter obviously day to day dry empty weight. Don’t have an exact weight at this point. Truck gets 17.5 mpg on average freeway mpg(2wd 32” E-rated tires at 55/60 psi -63mph is the sweet spot for mpg on my truck. ) thanks for watching and commenting. TbT
