I was eight in 82 aswell. I can remember hearing the opening credits theme one evening coming from someones house when we outside playing. Strange, nice little memory.
PYCR was a TV colossus. One of the great game shows, handled by the greatest. Ive just heard the sad news of Sir Bruce's death. God bless ya Brucie, it was nice to see you, to see you, nice
For those not familiar, this show is based on an American format, where the show is known better as "Card Sharks". It debuted on NBC daytime in April 1978, and was hosted by Jim Perry until October 1981. The show returned in January 1986 on CBS daytime, this time with Bob Eubanks presenting. The daytime show would last until March 1989, while a daily syndicated version with Bill Rafferty lasted from September 1986 to September 1987. A new syndicated show debuted with Pat Bullard in September 2001, but would only air until January 2002. A new version for ABC primetime is set to debut in June 2019 with Joel McHale as host.
A advert break for Ferguson TV, La Pir Dor, Kellogg's Rice Krispies, Black & Decker, McCain Chips & Kwik Save. The are adverts breaks in most programmes as you know but on BBC.
Martin did you notice on the McCain's Chips Advert The Actor Brian Hall The Chef From Fawlty Towers & The Voice Over Was If You Listen Carefully Is The Late & Great Dennis Waterman
This was the first series that he started to put that furry carpet thing on his head - in later years it didn't even match his surviving tonsure. He could have done a Lennie Bennett/Russ Abbot or Paul Daniels (RIP) but our Brucie wasn't to be beaten that way.
The most fixed game show of all time lol , they never used a full pack of cards nor shuffled them on set in front of the couples or audience , in fact if you take notice when the dolly dealers come out they are handed 5 pre chosen cards to put on the board, same with the final round the cards are brought out prepared from the back , nobody ever witnessed anything , and so often when on say a 3 or 4 card they knew they would go higher so put a lower card behind lol , it happened to often for it not to be fixed , they have a budget for each series and the car was only ever won every 3rd or 4th show.
As an American, I have to say that "Play Your Cards Right" is an awful version of the American "Card Sharks". The set looks ugly, Bruce Forsyth is a terrible host who seems more interested in cracking stupid jokes than in hosting the game, and playing the bonus round for points and prizes instead of for money is a horrible idea. This show sucks! I'll take the American Card Sharks over this bastardized pile of crap any day!
I just watched your version and it's just the same quality set, just bigger prize money. 😁 Bruce was huge in the UK. Much loved by us brits. I prefer our version to be honest
What you have to remember is that UK gameshows were limited by the Independent Broadcasting Authority as to how much they could give away in cash or prizes. Even up until the late 1980s the most a gameshow could give away per week was a jackpot prize worth £3,000.
I was eight in 1982 and loved Play yoiur cards right, screaming at the tv higher lower. Good times. Great memorys.

The start of the weekend.

@@bigdaddy4069 meant no school for 2 days and parents. Just enjoy weekend at my grandparents house
Brilliant episode! Two lovely, happy couples, Brucie on top form and a great ending. Marvellous.
Enjoyed the show, but loved seeing the adverts from 1982.
love the ads as well

Awww - back in the day when a car was a life-changing prize!! Been really enjoyed looking back at gameshows when I was 12 (in 1982)
Bruce was hilarious. 😂Timeless laughter. I hope he's laughing away with God and the Angels 💖💖
R.I.P. Brucie. A wonderful entertainer who is so missed, especially among today's reality showbiz minnows. 🙂
Bruce you will be so missed watched you as a kid and shocked to hear you go R I P and thanks for the memories you gave us!!!:(
In the early 1980s, Play Your Cards Right was also broadcast @ 7.15 pm on a Sunday evening.

Suffice to say that the American Card Sharks is far superior to this British version. I'll never watch PYCR ever again!
bull; ive seen card sharks and it was shit@@brycelandon6387
I like to see people happy 😊
Well I am, was married in 1979 and I did watch this show from time to time.
#ITV PERFECT CARDS A GAME 🇬🇧
The 80s 💞
My grandparents had a Ferguson. It was brilliant
rip brucie
Listen out for the director's voice at 26:04 over the intercom! There was some confusion as to whether they had answered the final question.
Strange how that avoided editing.
+97channel Ouch.
+Evonne Okafor Why did you say ouch?
97channel Just wanted to say what I felt really. Nothing more than that.
+Evonne Okafor Snooze clacker.
Awww, I miss the LWT ident at the beginning :-(
Those idents are all missed. YTV 'liquid gold' and 'ATV' were my favourites.
this game got me into playing blackjack
9:33 You don't get anything for a pair...Not In This Game!!!

+Martin Walsh This that LWT it was a London region ITV weekend franchise and not BBC.
+Andrew Scott yep ITV :P we had Carlton in the midlands :).
+Michael Dance BBC don't or never had advert breaks.

16:55 Don't touch the pack, we'll be right back!!
9:03: I'll give you some Heinz Baked Beans. Oh, what an old fart!
17:49. I used to always eat Rice Krispies as a kid :)
All credit to Bruce for admitting he now wears a rug - 0:24
?????
ianmilleris - That's nothing. You should see the opening to the first edition of series 4. It's out there, and it's more than you'd ever have thought.
I started playing this game, after London Weekend Television broke the proverbial bottle of champagne 🍾 over it, sometime in 1980.
The dolly with the blonde bonse is my grandma 😂😂❤❤
yeah its a nice bonse
Great
8:36 They should've gotten a bonus for getting it spot on, but to be fair the US card sharks didn't do that til 1980
That started in 1980, not 1981
The top prize should be a Rolls-Royce.
Betamax was pretty good quality
was there a security breach at buckingham palace at the time?
Michael Fagin got into the Queen's bedroom.
Didn’t they start giving bottles of champagne for answers on the nose in later series? 🤔

He admitted on the show that he'd had a hair transplant.
Yes, that episode is on here.
Prize for a holiday in Los Angeles,Hollywood AND Honolulu in Hawaii, that would be the star prize in my opinion not a car.
Dolly's, Haha, wouldnt get away with that these days.
Me too movement..sjw...wokesters.
Sometimes relatives of the contestant post these videos I think that makes them more interesting. I don't know if that's the case with this video
yes your right, i worked with Sue, who had a beta tape, i copied for them years later then put it on here
@@andrewwalmsley5628 good to hear that thanks. 👍 Must have been an amazing experience for her. 😁
Wonder where that lovely car is now.
@andrewwalmsley5628 I know it's been decades, but do you still know them?
Wot an old banger of a car 🚗 looks second hand
...Vickers can't fiddle 😂,....oh yes they can, ask the kids! 😮
I wonder if that young couple are still married and what they look like now?
Does anyone really believe they surveyed 100 vicars?!
00:25:03 That's what I call a gusty couple!
I'm sure your comment went down a storm at the misspeller's convention.
Don't touch the pack we'll be right back
well they do for being on a nose
a case of champagne
Sue parents in court for one's poor upbringing? Talk about passing the buck.
09:33 You don't get anything for a pair....NOT IN THIS GAME!
Tuna mackerel salmon anchovies cod tilapia
They always seemed to have a mixed race couple from Neasden, London on.
not in this game
Boyzone
David wasn't bad looking eh?

Youre a lot of fun! British tv back then was unique. We didnt want to be like you americans. Have seen Card Sharks with Eubanks and its ok.
I'm getting the feeling that poor Bryce has never had sex
