Weren't we just the luckiest generation back in the 70s and 80s? Music, tele, pubs, proper news, god the list just goes on. Nice to have seen you, to have seen you...
Iconic - just every ounce of it...Bruce, the intro graphics - the LWT intro graphics and jingles, back then the landscape of ITV in its old form really was dynamic and it showed!
Brucie did make his way across the pond once to briefly host a show in 1986, so some Americans got a taste of him, but unfortunately, not enough. Early that year, he began hosting the daytime show "Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak" on the ABC network. It would only air five episodes a week for a total of thirteen weeks. While the format was fairly good, it was in direct competition with two of the most popular game shows on American television, "The Price is Right" on CBS, and "Wheel of Fortune" on NBC. I imagine Brucie could have lasted just a little bit longer had ABC placed him in a better time slot.
Just seeing the new LWT ident, it was the beginning of a new era for itv. This was the final series from 1987, and didn't return until 1994, with a complete make over. Bruce was a tv quiz legend
Great show, one of my faves when I was a kid growing up in the 80s - had a slight stop in my heart when the opening titles were on; I'm sure this was screened back in it's heyday on a Friday Night (could be wrong). Remember a younger version of my dad who enjoyed this show opening a beer and a packet of peanuts :-)
The King. At the top of his game. Brucie, take a bow - PYCR was good tv entertainment and when I saw your one man show a few years back it was a privilege.
The mrs is in the living room watching the new one with Alan Carr and celebrities. I'm in the kitchen watching the original and best, this is true british weekend television the way it should be done 😊
Indeed it did and this clip was five years that marked the end of ITV with the loss of Thames, which together with London Weekend, ATV and Yorkshire chiefly produced award winning programmes.
I remember when Emmerdale used to have the word "Farm" on the end and was only on 2 nights a week, so we'd get more variety on the telly than bleeding soaps!
I agree, this is when TV was good, but I think Play your cards was also shown on Saturdays before or after being shown on Fridays, either way, good quality TV, not like now with the X factor, BGT and reality shows.
I think the 87 series was aired the same year Nicolas Lyndhurst starred in The Two Of Us ITV sitcom on a Friday night, which was another LWT production.
Trip down memory lane, I have seen a lot of game show host's here in the US except for maybe Merv who might come close to Bruce there's no one who was as fun and entertaining I did not even care for the prizes it was just his nonstop zingers and cheerful banter.....and lol at that waterproof camera as a prize but it was a pretty cool thing in 1987.... Good Times in the UK
The Thames set remained the same all the way through albeit some very minor lighting/colour changes. Around this time Strike it Lucky was massive so I'd imagine viewing figures on this were beginning to fall and hence the last season.
7:29 Dying of love 16:30 Division, Clear the lobby 17:11 The Ayes to the right, fourteen; the Noes to the left eighty six; so the Noes have it. 17:48 *PIF:* Respect your elders
A time when adults were adults and were allowed to share adult humour in the mainstream broadcasting without the fear/intervention of 'political correctness'! First female contestant was a bit of a looker - office romance, wish I was in a workplace like this :-)
I think it's also better than Card Sharks because Brucie is such a laugh. But I'm British and I grew up with Brucie and his many game shows so I may be biased lol.
+DarkLight753 I was wondering when they show movies in theaters in England and they are already in American English, like Disney for example, do they redub them into British?
Laura Kruk Lol, no there's no dubbing for movies in Britain. We get exactly the same as you. There's not a huge amount of difference between American English and British English. Just the way some words are said. Like in the US, for tomato you say To-may-toe but we say To-mah-to. For some US documentaries that are shown in the UK the original narrator is replaced by a British voice. Deadliest Catch is one such example
That's the one in the United States, that was shown in the UK on weekday mornings on Sky One in 1993 and 1994 One with Concentration which was also the United States version!
Is my memory playing tricks on me? Did some of the main games run short and Bruce asked members of the audience high/low questions for a tenner a time?
No, you're right. There's at least one episode on UA-cam from 1980 (first series, with single contestants and Brucie with a handheld mic) where Brucie goes into the audience and got two people to play a quick question worth a tenner before the credits rolled.
For decades I have been annoyed when Bruce says a Jack is a good card (like he did in this game) but a 5 is a bad card (as he did in this game). They’re both the same! A five has 2-3-4 lower than it and a Jack has a Q-K-A higher than it! Same mathematical probability of losing!
I wish they were given 50 pounds for the match & start the bonus round with 50 pounds & 3 cards. Then on the next level the winning couple gets another 50 pounds & 3 more cards. And make the minimum bet 10 pounds until the last card on the last level when they risk at least half of their betting money.
If you're going to 'give someone some stick' it means you're going to criticise them (often to their face) or talk to them in a disiplinary (however you spell it) way. It's generally done after they've done something that personally offends you.
@@mbvideoselection You got that mixed up, they're the complete opposite of each other. Twist is like saying hit - i.e. take another card. Stick is like stand - i.e. stop dealing.
+Robert Lopresti Yep, Australia also has the same name, the US we know it as "Card Sharks" in the UK and Australia they know it as "Play your cards right"
You could not be farther from the truth Kevin. I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce on a number of occasions, and you are so wrong. The man was so kind and considerate, which may not translate to what you see on screen, but he always cared about the audience and contestants.
NEVER heard of, let alone seen, this gameshow before.... We Aussies certainly never got it on our screens. Pity. BRUCE is so quick-witted and hilarious! 🤣🤣 He really MAKES the show! ✨👍 M 🦘🏏😎
WOW!!! Pity you never got this in Australia, I absolutely loved this show, I so miss these days terribly, And yeah Brucey was a fantastic presenter and actor too tbh
Bring back 1987!!! I want to live it all over again.
Don't blame you
Don't blame you
Loved everything about the 80s from the music to tv programmes and films . Happy memories for me 🙂

RIP BRUCE FORSYTH. YOU WERE A TRUE LEGEND OF BRITISH TELEVISION.
Weren't we just the luckiest generation back in the 70s and 80s? Music, tele, pubs, proper news, god the list just goes on. Nice to have seen you, to have seen you...
I love the joke about the audience being so much better then last week . They were the same audience as more then one show was recorded at a time !
You mean than, you typed an e rather than an a
R.I.P Brucie. You were an absolute legend.
Yeah, It Was Nice To See Him, To See Him.....
Bruce was 1 in a million. Hilarious now, over 35 years later. The true sign of a star.
Iconic - just every ounce of it...Bruce, the intro graphics - the LWT intro graphics and jingles, back then the landscape of ITV in its old form really was dynamic and it showed!
Bruce Forsyth, was britain's greatest entertainer,
And very possibly the worlds best........
Barrymore was better.

No doubt after Mind your Language
LIVERNIL723 Yes it was shown of Fridays at the start.

awesome! I loved watching this!
1987 TV absolutely smashes all over todays TV, it really is shockingly bad these days. Happy memories and Bruce was the best entertainer ever.
