I heard a cover of this song that I really liked by Benjamin Tod from the lost dog street band. They also do a great cover of Steve Earl's "The Mountain".
This might be a hot take, Ryan can't "sing". He's got no tone. It's all one or two notes. That's the damn beauty of it. It hits you way deep down anyway. He's something special.

dredwine11 two things: Guy’s song goes "I’ll stand up and be counted, I’ll face up to the truth..." and Ryan sings "I’ll stand up and be counted, I’ll stand up to the truth"...no huge deal, but for a song as brilliantly crafted and as poetically perfect as Guy Clark’s Dublin Blues, every single word is meant for a reason, and should be respected as such. Ryan also forgot to complete the song with the outro, where Guy sings the first verse of the song (the "I wish I was in Austin") verse for a second time at the very end, completing the song. Ryan did not re-sing that first verse to end the song, he just ended on the chorus. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ryan Bingham, I think he’s one of the really true talents of his generation. No biggie though, I just love Guy Clark’s work so much.
Hey thanks for the quick reply. I can totally understand the sentiment of every word having meaning. Ryan flubs words and verses in most covers and even his own songs. One of the most significant for me is in "Hallelujah" where in live performances he repeats "it's just a song" after each chorus. On the album version, that line is only used once and at the end of the last chorus to really make an impactful statement. Using it after each chorus live he really derails the meaning of that line and the build of the song. I am a huge Bingham fan but this always bugs me about his live stuff (in a fun way). Anyway, Dublin Blues IS a a fantastic song. Beautifully written. RIP to Guy Clark.
@@snmthecloser A cover is meant to be an interpretation, not a copy. It was probably intentional. Guy chopped a whole verse off "To Live Is to Fly" but it wasn't a mistake, it was his interpretation. I doubt Townes minded.
