I don’t know where, but because of EDB and Peter Tragos LYK, and recovery Addict I have been in this Judge’s court before. On some other case at some point in time . Never thought I’d become such a LawNerd living in Europe. Thanks Emily.
Thank you so much. This case is fascinating and I very much appreciate you, EDB, and the Law Nerds. It's only a matter of time until there's justice for Eric. ❤️🇨🇦
Oh man I always thought it meant 'spelled incorrectly' but I must be doing that thing where you assign the wrong origin to a term after the fact. There's a word for that but I forget.
It actually can mean “look this wrong spelling here isn’t my fault, it’s just the way this source text wrote it”… example: in my haus [sic!] would show that you know how the spell “house“ it had just been written lile that :)
There are many reasons to have a fascination with law and legal proceedings even if you have no interest in personally being a part of the profession! It’s intellectually stimulating, it offers insight into the lives of people who violate the social contract, it basically gives us an additional and very important vantage point for examining our rights and responsibilities as members of a (mostly) civilized society.
Great show today Emily. Replay crew here. I agree that prisoners should be kept busy but I draw the line at getting a Masters degree on the People. Most non criminal citizens can’t afford to get an education let alone a Masters Degree education! Ugh!
I cannot stop laughing at “I don’t need a close up on her waves, if we need to close up on anyone, it should be the judge.” And I also have the ducktales jingle in my head. Thanks a lot EDB!
Emily , Replay here. I live in SLC. Summit Cnty is Park City, mountains and lots of 2 lane roads from town to town. The 2 surrounding counties could include SLC, but most likely Morgan and Wasatch. Which only means more mountainous roads and conditions. So I can understand the convenience of zoom jury selection, but your explanation and knowledge was illuminating and well articulated as always. ❤all u do.
My sister was called in for jury duty next week in Davis county (the county just north of Salt Lake county), and she is having jury selection in person.
As a Utahn who lives in a suburb of SLC, I would consider Park City a suburb as well (they are only about 15 min apart, PC is actually pretty small, and a good portion of residents are seasonal), but people from Park City would probably fight me on that.
He’s so polite to both sides. He’s also kind and polite to the defendant. Some judges look like they are clenching their teeth when they address the defendant.

Finally watched your Ted Talk, Emily. Really hits home for me, especially when you called out the "starving artist" mentality and the "wanted to be a paleontologist." 😅 💜
I am thoroughly and utterly begging for the stars to align so a RHOSLC housewife gets jury duty.. I don't pray often (or at all) but this is something I need. Really, its something we all need... oh, please, please, please!
As a person living in Utah (formerly from Portand Oregon), I can tell you how they do jury selection. Utah is a very homogeneous state, you can tell who they are the moment they are on screen. Also, Utah will show up for jury duty because they were told to, the end. Law abiding and happy to serve the community.
While I appreciate advocating for your client, this defense attorney is in her feelings. Seems she is taking the response from the state personal as opposed to her have any true feelings regarding the conditions under which the defendant now finds herself and what she has been doing while incarcerated. Either way, based what has been presented up to this point, it would appear that perhaps she should have not poisoned her husband and she wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place.

Emily, Summit County Utah covers a very large area. It's probably been found to be the best to allow for a larger jury pool option before having them come in in-person. I can see both sides.
1:59:53 she had absolutely no qualms about leaving her kids when she k!ll3d her husband knowing damn well she'd be... leaving her kids ...when she got caught.
Agreed, but I also understand why they’d want to charge them separately. One reason to charge them both would be that if you get guilty verdicts on both but there’s a valid appellate issue for one of them, then she’s still gonna be in prison even if the one charge ends up being dismissed.
Utah local: I’m sure part of it has to do with commuting in the possible snow too. If someone gets pooled from Tooele County to Summit county, that can easily take 4 hours. Zooming in is has helped connect us mountain folk to the valley folk.
