    Haendel + Streit = big bright fresh breathe allover the univers. The climbs, full, in place, in a single breath, are so perfectly mastered! More than this, Kurt Streit adds an iirresistible enthusiasm. Very high art.

    Of all classical pieces (yes I know this Baroque), no other piece (Messiah in its entirety) is more often performed, is more well loved, and is as familiar the world over as this masterpiece is. It is filled with soul, and with feeling. No computer could have generated this as creatively, as completely, nor could have explored the depths of sonority, and texture, nor could have created such hauntingly beautiful and lyrical motifs. I never tire of listening or performing it.

    Handel on German is spelt with an ' Umlaut ' which means the sound is pronounced longer like Haandel and not like handle as in broom handle
    Maybe the ' ae ' is an English way of trying to pronounce the Umlaut without writing it for proper pronounciation of the sound ?

    My friend, we have no grounds to say that Baroque singing couldn't have been powerful. The text is, after all, "Every valley shall be exalted!" It's a very huge, powerful message. I believe what separates this singing from "Mozart singing" or "Verdi singing" is the incredibly forward placement, the attention to detail, and the lack of unwarranted portamenti or other ornaments. These ornaments are all intentional and very well executed.

    @phenrod , just take in mind that this is a prophecy written by Isaiah and held in the bible book that has his name on the comming of the Messiah (hence, appropiate that Haendel placed it here, before the song praising the birth of Christ). According the prophecy, he was to make "the rought (to) get straight" and all that you can hear sung by the tenor.

    • @Davccelion
      @Davccelion  10 років тому +3

      Actually, since it should be "Händel", for long time it was accepted that sort of English transliteration of his surname. I am not sure about now, but some years go both Handel/Händel and Haendel were accepted. You can check older CD's, viniles and tv programs and you see what I mean.

    • @SebastiaanBenders
      @SebastiaanBenders 10 років тому +1

      Yeah it's Händel. The "umlaut", which are the dots on the a, aren't available on most international keyboards. For those of us without the Umlaut on our keyboards, it is accepted to write the e behind the a instead, indicating the Umlaut was omitted. So Haendel /is/ the correct spelling, while Handel is wrong. :D

      ae = ä.. worls well

    • @Ankhsheshonq
      @Ankhsheshonq 6 років тому

      His name in German was Georg Friedrich Händel. However, he seems to have accepted the English form of his name which is on his tomb stone: George Frederic Handel. Incidentally, if you pronounce "Handel" the English way, it will sound almost like the German "Händel". It should be noted that in German, "ae" is normally considered just another way of writing "ä", so while your dictionary might list a word as "Aktivität", you can also write it as "Aktivitaet" - even if you do have a keyboard that allows you to write umlauts in a convenient way.
