An absolutely wonderful rendition. A marvelous voice, he not only sang it beautifully, he captured the joyful anticipation of the promise the text describes.
yes.
I agree. He is so deeply joyful of the message he is sending, and this makes his music so wonderful to listen to. What a great performance!
Yes!!! beautiful

@@danmcglaun1 That's the goat of Messiah performing!
Every note hit dead center. Every word crisply enunciated. Every trumpet passage played with truth and authority. One can hear the Second Coming in the wings. Bravo!!
very well said
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Handel would be proud of this performance! This was God sent!
I strongly agree with you.
pov ur 880 years old
Like very proud
Mr. Burton's rendition is by far the best I have ever heard. The power of his voice is simply stupendous. I feel blessed to have heard this.
Bob Schober
Philippe Sly does a good job as well
Mr Burton has the true bass voice . His performance is beautiful .
😊😢😮😢😢🎉😢
That valveless baroque trumpet it's *insanely difficult* to play ... kudos to the interpreter 💙
I have listened to this piece many times by many artists, but I have NEVER heard it done this well! Wonderful control and expression!
because you actually did not and are being politically correct...
@@stellario82 presumptuous twaddle! You can’t see into her heart.

I have been singing in Messiah performances for 30 plus years. This is, undoubtedly ,
the best interpretation of this selection that I have ever heard. Stunning voice and feeling... Beautiful...!!!
The trumpet solo is also marvelous!
Well done, gentlemen,!!
Well done to you for your long dedication to the messiah performances so that people like me can enjoy hearing it.
When Dashon Burton finished his performance, I picked up the white wig on the floor and gave it back to G.F. Handel and said: Maestro, here is your wig. It fell off your head during Mr. Burton's first vibrato. Sehr gut~! Bravissimo~!
This is a wonderful reaction that you feel. . . . and wrote down. I feel the same way. The way he sings this, I believe his words. . . every time. Thank you for your wonderful tribute NoteAndroid.
Great!!! Yes with property, returning the wig!
More of Dashon please. Amazing.
What an amazing performance. Glad this was recorded, as its one for the ages. I like how the rest of the talent are just looking at him like "Wow!"
That 7:32 scene was powerful. 😋
Dashon Burton is my old college roommate, and still one of my best friends. I feel so fortunate to know such a talented man!
Oh my goodness you are so lucky. He seems like an amazing person!!
Amazing
OMg * I also want to be his room mate! :-))
I need to meet him!
Magnificent !
It's like he's testifying with his voice, not worrying about phrasing. This is my favorite performance of my favorite Messiah number.
Magnificent
You should check out Phillipe Sly's rendition as well
@@chiomablessing01 So I watched Phillipe Sly's rendition. The technical performance was very good. However, it was somewhat sterile visually with what looked like a frown during most of the performance. I really like this voice much better than Phillipe's, and definitely prefer the visuals because this vocalist looks like he actually believes what he is singing--it isn't merely a performance. I both hear and see more emotion in this performance, which may not be appealing to some. But to me I want to get into the message of the song and doing so is much easier if the performer is pulling me into it as this soloist is doing.
it is not about religion, is about musical performance. He has a good and powerfull voice indeed, but it is some kind of overused and therefore somewhat destroys the contrast, on that this piece lives. This piece needs more subitle nuancing, I think. Eg. "The trumpet shall sound" simply blends in , because there is no more possibbility to raise voice, because he's all allways on top...
@@andyking957 I can't hear this voice as "overused", it hardly feels forced does it? This is just what he's got and he's using every bit of it. It's easy to think of a few comments that a coach might make about the performance. But the #1 comment would surely be "don't lose that natural flow". By the way, I played this for a small church group the other day, and it left everybody with their jaws on the floor - including professional singers and non-musicians alike.
With Dashon Burton's bass and stage presence and John Theissen's baroque trumpet, not piccolo trumpet, this is the best rendition I've heard. This is the only rendition I have seen or heard with baroque trumpet. For this piece, baroque trumpet, the instrument originally intended for this arrangement, blends so much better than piccolo trumpet. Bravo!
My favorite💙
He enunciates the words, adheres to the musical dynamics perfectly, breath control too is amazing, and the accompaniment is as pompous as it should be. A powerful performance indeed.
This may be my favorite rendition of this piece. I've watched this video at least a dozen times. His voice is so clear, and the orchestra sounds so pure.
Me at least 100 times.
Fabulous voice with both depth and clarity. Every word is articulated effortlessly. This is a 10/10 performance.
Martin Johnston EFFORTLESSLY!!!
The
Behold, I shew you a *MYSTERY;*
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:
for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised *INCORRUPTIBLE,*
and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
and this mortal _must_ put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written,
Death is swallowed up in victory.

I am so charmed by the moment around 7:30, when the camera shows a few choir members, listening with as much mesmerised pleasure as the rest of us. What an incredibile voice.
It was almost sekzual. Great pick by camera person. 😍👏🏾
Why does this not have more views? Why have I not heard of Dashon Burton before?!!! Let me say this man's name again: DASHON BURTON!!! Google him. I did! Thank goodness he's still performing.
My God, this man gives a MASTER CLASS on how this piece should be sung! Technically flawless, artistic perfection, effortless and glorious tone. And the all too rare quality among singers who know they're this good: restraint! What else is there to ask for?
I used to think the late, great Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau owned this piece like no one else could. I now stand corrected. Bravissimo, Mr. Burton. I could not be more effusive. But it is all well deserved.
One of the very few contemporary singers who's name can be said in the same sentence with the extraordinary Eric Owens.
Since he didn't post this, I know he'll never read it. But he has a new fan. I will find more of him work and certainly hope to hear him live one day. Bravo!
We have several singers today who are top singers... and there is no promotion. We have to mine the internet. Excellent this wonderful singer - DASHON BURTON. Excellent, wonderful...
This is by far the very best performance I have ever heard. Praise the Lord for your powerful voice. Looking forward to hearing the Trumpet and meeting my Lord and Saviour. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Me too sir
...his command of breath..diction...line..just masterful!!
Thank you, Mr. Burton, for blessing us with you magnificent voice. My heart overflows with joy in praising our Savior.

What a voice! Clear, powerful, beautifully modulated. Extraordinary.
The trumpet shall sound indeed.
It surely shall! What a wonderful reading of this air by this young bass!
'And time shall be no more'
Not the
LastTrumpet just yet.... trumpets, tribulation and glory such as never were yet seen. THEN the Last Trumpet shall sound!
Alfonce Nzioka can’t wait. My children are expecting me. Amen
That was a natural trumpet ! I didn't know they used them any more.
He has an effortlessly massive voice. I love this recording.
Fabulous singer he has a wonderful voice.💖
Did anyone see the heaven opened up and the Lord was on His feet giving a standing ovation? For the first time I am in tears hearing this aria by this young man. I was almost mistaken by myself hearing Jerome Hines. I pray that you will honor God all your life through your God given talent.
Indeed....Monumental talent and performance...Handel must be pleased..I can't remember anyone singing his music with such grandeur..
I have been in the chorus singing with this man, Messiah at Carnegie Hall, Verdi Requiem at Mechanic's Hall, and went to see him perform in Princeton as Elijah. He is as kind as he is talented.I am part of his fan club!
How lucky you were. I must say that anyone who has met Mr. Burton has been remarkably unanimous in their sentiment.
I, too have sung alongside Dashon at Trinity Church Wall Street. Undoubtedly he is as kind as he is talented. I am a member of the fan club.
He should be the artist for the "artist night" performance at the NANM, inc (National Association of Negro Musicians)annual convention.
This is a perfect rendition. It is flawless, the consonants are well articulated. His Mastery of the solo piece is awesome.
How about the trumpet player? He's playing a valve less natural trumpet, common at the time of Handel, but very difficult to play. Outstanding job!!
I am amazed.
He's not, he uses a "hybrid" of the modern and baroque trumpet, maintaining the shape of the instrument but with added holes (you can see his right hand opening them). Still harder to perform than it is on a modern trumpet though.
John Thiessen! My favourite trumpet player!
@@andreasberiatos3158 The straight trumpet, or maybe the Baroque version, was probably very close to the ancient English Post Horn, which predated Handel's arrival in the British Isles.
I was also thinking same. That must be tough. Excellent job
Gorgeous stunning performance, both trumpet, orchestra and Dashon Burton! Incredible voice.
I found this to be a spine chilling performance- magnificent and glorious.
Dashaun Burton is a source of blessings to me. I watched that video over 350times in 2020
I dont know how many times I watched it, maybe about 100 times.
This is the best interpretation of this great music! Dashon Burton is magnificent!
He sets a standard for staid assurance and beauty-laden power not often seen in Basses. Love the rolled r's! I know some think it affect, but it adds a Baroque-italianate authority to the words; he chooses what r to roll, for effect. Love this singer! Just growing into his greatness.
My english is not good enough to express my opinion (and feeling). But you said it all perfectly.
out of this world! opens my heart. rolled rs add to the beauty and to his self-possession
Mr. Burton has really added some "umph" that this piece needs , not just the usual note for note blah , consider this the "unplugged" version , just magnificent ....
@@mansfieldlukas1161 Right. The key signature is merely a suggestion.
Rolled r's are easier to project as well.
This has been a sad season for many. THANK YOU, dear Dashon Burton and musicians, for sharing this GOSPEL truth about what awaits those who trust in Jesus Christ as savior.
Great voice and trumpet solo.
Chillllsss. Sung with all the conviction and giftedness that comes from God alone. Wonderful technique too.
He could make me religious!
This was an effortless performance. I love his voice& the melismas flow nicely.
This young man has a special voice. Free, easy, articulate, but most of all beautiful! It’s sad to see some chorus members haven’t accepted him! Learn to embrace what this man has given to us!
Jealous of his breath control :-)
Such a treat-A magnificent soloist-perfect for that piece!
Absolutely superb. Mr Burton stirs me to the depths of my soul each time I hear him.
Would love to hear him sing "why do the nation's". Very clear articulation and diction.
Yes me too
I would too like to hear him do that selection. I had the recording of the late William warfield doing that selection. He is the ideal one to replace William Warfield in the misic world.
One of, if not the, finest bass I have heard for many years!
What a fabulous performance Dashon! Great orchestra as well!
I like to sing this in my truck on my commute home. Wish I had a voice like his.
This is truly the most awesome version of "The trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised" I am stunned, well done Mr. Burton, God bless you forever. What an incredible talent.
I'm sorry but I just watched most of the major interpretations of this from the 80's even of the foremost operatic Bass/Baritones and I'm here to let you know that this is the very top. The inflections, the joy, the worship...this is beyond.
Just one question: why are you sorry?
@@DieFlabbergast Just an expression but you're right, no need.

Mr Burton and Mr Theissen absolutely blew me away. The best I ever heard.
This is the most glorious rendition of this piece that I have ever heard!
The best version I have heard so far.
For sure, my favorite.
what an amazing voice!!!
Mr. Burton has the clearest and most powerful bass voice that i have ever heard. for me no other bass singer comes close.
Ce garçon a la voix d'un ROI
C'est un miracle de Dieu. Nous Lui rendons grace.
Mr. Burton, thank you for all your years of effort, sacrifice, and training so that such glory might be voiced into Creation.
He sings this so effortlessly and fluidly that it's as if he's speaking it.
very
Effortlessly. You put it correctly. It's like it ain't a thing.
Perfection - clear diction and effortless singing!
UA-cam does not have love button....I would have pressed that. Great work, sir. I could see the whole orchestra enjoying the piece.
A splendid performance, and I'm glad I thought to look it up during Easter week. I notice that some comments assume Burton performs this so well because he is a fervent Christian. I'd say he it's because he has developed a great talent and put a great deal into this performance, regardless of what he believes. If he is a skeptic and Christianity is true, the performance still glorifies God. If Christianity is false, it is still a splendid performance of beautiful music.
well put!
Watching in Oct 2019. My love for classical music never dies
Me too. Watching on December 17, 2019 and loving it
My love never changing either.
Why am I just now learning about this incredible talent!!! He's magnificent!
From observing the admiring smiles of some his colleagues sitting behind him, they no doubt agree with you! You know what they say about brothers with impeccable, deep voices, well, the can go really low...seriously tho, he is great!
I hope his career takes off and we see him in opera performances, say at the Met, for example.
.....who sent me this wonderful rendition of the Trumpet song from Handel's Messiah, on Easter Saturday. Truly a gift from God, God Blessed!
Burton's voice is smooth and powerful with good vibrato without excessive ornamentation, a hard thing to do in Baroque oratorios. This Aria is just right for him.
Puissance et musicalité, profondeur de sentiment. Chanté avec une belle conviction. Haendel aurait apprécié.
Gorgeous voice- easily my favorite bass. Truly mesmerising
MAGIC AND EMOTIONAL 😭 !!!
What an amazing rendition, and we hold on tightly to our faith, waiting on the Lords coming - AND WE SHALL BE CHANGED!
Wow, what a voice!!!
By far the most joyous rendition of this aria I have ever heard/seen. Wonderful.
The depth in Dashon Burton’s voice is exceptional! By far the best rendition I have ever heard, wonderful and with such meaning. Handel would have been proud to have listened to this.
Beautiful! What a tremendous voice! As gorgeous as it is....I am yet, more moved and in awe by the prophetic Word of scripture this amazing singer sings. Let us heed the Word of our Lord. "Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- 52in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality." 1 Corinthians 51-53
The Harpazo!
Praise God. Those people who have died believing and following after Jesus will be raised up by him, on the last day. Thank you Jesus the Messiah.
This should have more views. Such splendid performance unto God! No other rendition I've listened to come close to this musician/vocalist.
I loved the trumpeter and the singer... Wonderful. What a beautiful voice, powerful, clear and good to hear... the ensemble is divine and the Chamber orchestra is very excellent... Congratulations to everyone involved!!! (Maestro Heraldo Filho - Choirs - Vitória ES - Brazil)
Ooo my God..
I'm having goose pimples...
The trumpet shall sound and We shall be raised incorruptible... HALLELUYAH 👐👐👐👐
Glorious testimony with a sweet sacrificial voice
This is truly exquisite! I've listened to more recordings of this piece than I care to admit, and this one ranks up there.
Absolutely fantastic! Performed with great meaning and depth of feeling. His facial expression and emotion tells all.
This a magnificent performance. I can't say how many times I've heard this piece but this is the best.
I wonder what those 24 dislikes are for. There’s nothing wrong with this exceptional performance. I listened it over and over. It brings goose bumps .
Yes indeed I got goose bumps listening to this amazing man with his awesome bass voice. The dislikes were probably because Dashon Burton is an Afro-american. It's too bad even these days prejudice exist.
Tears in my eyes. Wonderful performance !
@@LauraLeeClare It may have been jealousy by male singers! After all many famous bass singers have been Afro Americans and worshipped all over the world even in the 1940's.
Don’t give it a thought ... excellence often provokes spite from nonentities. The rest of us are cheering.
mee to . i wake me up
How beautiful! My 💓is so full! Happy Resurrection Day! Thank you UA-cam for sending this!
What a magnificent voice and - may I say it - a magnificent specimen of humankind!
Beautiful voice, beautiful man💜💙💖

Magnifique chanteur, l'accompagnement est formidable. BRAVO.
What a stunning masterful Bass voice this man has ! Ive never heard such depth before. Gosh and that trumpet playa...Where is the love button for this.
Notice how the chorus is listening intently as he sings.
yes , very true
At the end of the vocalises, some men are even like "Yeah, you nailed it dude"
Having had the privilege of being in a chorus for which Dashon soloed several times, I can say that always happens. You can't help it; his voice and stage presence draw you in like a magnet even on video, and it's far more so when he's right there!
The bass commands the stage
Rapt attention
What a voice, and, more importantly, what an artist.
