    Thanks coach!

    This is wisdom. Great great video explaining some simple elements of the triangle. Everything Samaki said was 100% true and I agree with it.
    My only qualm is that the triangle can fail for several other reasons than those listed. Of course you need guys who can make quick reads and who can cut hard. However, things like ineffective screening, poor post fundamentals (i.e players who can score efficiently out of the post), lack of shooting, poor passing, and lack of IQ/creativity can really hinder the triangle.
    I think the biggest reason why it's hard for the Triangle to be maximally effective is the fact that many players lack the IQ and skill set. Also, many players are selfish and don't want to do the dirty work (that doesn't show up in the box score) to make the team score efficiently.

    Don't usually leave comments like this but I have to because this video honestly just fortified my love for the game of basketball and my appreciation of how beautiful of a game it is. I see it as something as strategical as chess combined with both reactive and proactive responses. It's all about being in the moment mentally staying aware(to vaguely quote The Zen Master) whilst giving your all to stay physically intense. Great to see Samaki doing well, he did an excellent job.
    Stellar video, Coach, keep 'em coming! #LakerNation

    Great Breakdown Coach! Are you going to be making anymore Triangle videos?!? It's too bad that people don't understand the offense and think it's not effective in today's game. It really incorporates almost EVERY aspect of basketball(Ball Movement/Player Movement*with a purpose*/Defensive Balance/Offensive Rebounding Positioning/Spacing/Iso/Shooting/Proper Passing/Penetration/the emphasis on players being skilled n not just talented athletes etc.....) I could go on and on lol but maybe 1 day people will catch on and it will get the Respect it deserves. Keep up the Great Work and keep the Triangle videos coming!

    This dude needs to be an assistant coach for the knicks. It looks so robotic when the knicks run the triangle.

    • @lucaslb300891
      @lucaslb300891 8 років тому +9

      +James Dolan When they run it, it seems they are not agressive. Guards and wings are not cutting hard and post players are not looking for their shots (except Porzingis, maybe that being why he is so good, even though that is lowering his % recently). Players like O'Quinn, Lopez or L.Thomas often just go through the motions. Carmelo also needs to elevate his intensity, he's relying too much on his pure talent.

      That's last year's Knicks. This years Knicks have tweaked where its not so robotic, but it still needs a ton of work.

    • @mako4874
      @mako4874 8 років тому

      +James Dolan wouldn't make a difference. triangle is a read offence- it requires too much basketball iq to run, its a great offence- but it requires players who can read and react- whereas most nba players are tell and do players, only a handful - maybe 10 percent of players are that smart at that level. if u have good players- its great- but then again if u have great players- any offence is good. the mistake phil has made is that the offence can make a bad team good, it just isn't the case.

    Played against Samaki in a LA GEAR summer league. I had to guard him and he guarded me. Every shot I attempted he blocked. Sometimes without jumping. He never dunked on me though both times he tried I wrapped my arms on his shoulders and basically tackled him. 3rd time I got ejected from the game. But he never dunked on me...ha

      1playerroyal He didn't play well tho. Also, that Lakers team wasn't exactly stacked with bigs. Aside from Shaq and Horry, who else were there? I remember them having a rookie who wasn't really all that good and didn't play much. They had the European guy who wasn't that good as well.

    and BTW the Triangle worked because it had DEFENSE! when you have a luc longley clogging up the paint with a Rodman who can rebound and defend anyone and a scottie pippin and Jordan it's pretty hard to score on that, or lakers Andrew Bynum or shaq or a underrated kobe who can block shots or a Ron artest playing defense it's gonna work TRUST ME!! the Knicks might have PORZGINIS in the paint blocking shots, but the back court SUCKS! AFFALO and Calderón Can't defend SHIT!! and the bench is trash! !!

    • @mrtrololorific

    • @melokid99

    • @melokid99
      @melokid99 8 років тому

      +starkk19 but people don't mention they had really good defense, knicks want to get durant, how much I would like that we NEED defense, we never had that since 2013 with all those guys like kidd who played really good defense on SQs, iman, Kmart And don't forget Tyson Chandler! perimeter and and rim protect, now we got bums like Joes Calderón defending quick guards. but step one FIREFISHER
