I really loved this one! always been a fan of the triangle offense, noticed how you said in a comment a triangle breakdown is coming! I'm really excited for that! And Samaki seems like a awesome guy :) Thanks coach!
This is wisdom. Great great video explaining some simple elements of the triangle. Everything Samaki said was 100% true and I agree with it. My only qualm is that the triangle can fail for several other reasons than those listed. Of course you need guys who can make quick reads and who can cut hard. However, things like ineffective screening, poor post fundamentals (i.e players who can score efficiently out of the post), lack of shooting, poor passing, and lack of IQ/creativity can really hinder the triangle. I think the biggest reason why it's hard for the Triangle to be maximally effective is the fact that many players lack the IQ and skill set. Also, many players are selfish and don't want to do the dirty work (that doesn't show up in the box score) to make the team score efficiently.
Don't usually leave comments like this but I have to because this video honestly just fortified my love for the game of basketball and my appreciation of how beautiful of a game it is. I see it as something as strategical as chess combined with both reactive and proactive responses. It's all about being in the moment mentally staying aware(to vaguely quote The Zen Master) whilst giving your all to stay physically intense. Great to see Samaki doing well, he did an excellent job. Stellar video, Coach, keep 'em coming! #LakerNation
Great Breakdown Coach! Are you going to be making anymore Triangle videos?!? It's too bad that people don't understand the offense and think it's not effective in today's game. It really incorporates almost EVERY aspect of basketball(Ball Movement/Player Movement*with a purpose*/Defensive Balance/Offensive Rebounding Positioning/Spacing/Iso/Shooting/Proper Passing/Penetration/the emphasis on players being skilled n not just talented athletes etc.....) I could go on and on lol but maybe 1 day people will catch on and it will get the Respect it deserves. Keep up the Great Work and keep the Triangle videos coming!
+James Dolan When they run it, it seems they are not agressive. Guards and wings are not cutting hard and post players are not looking for their shots (except Porzingis, maybe that being why he is so good, even though that is lowering his % recently). Players like O'Quinn, Lopez or L.Thomas often just go through the motions. Carmelo also needs to elevate his intensity, he's relying too much on his pure talent.
+James Dolan wouldn't make a difference. triangle is a read offence- it requires too much basketball iq to run, its a great offence- but it requires players who can read and react- whereas most nba players are tell and do players, only a handful - maybe 10 percent of players are that smart at that level. if u have good players- its great- but then again if u have great players- any offence is good. the mistake phil has made is that the offence can make a bad team good, it just isn't the case.
are the knicks still running it wrong? im thinking if Kerr installed his offensive fusion of triangle, spurs, dantoni and sloan to the knicks they would be doing a lot better rather than doing the triangle
Played against Samaki in a LA GEAR summer league. I had to guard him and he guarded me. Every shot I attempted he blocked. Sometimes without jumping. He never dunked on me though both times he tried I wrapped my arms on his shoulders and basically tackled him. 3rd time I got ejected from the game. But he never dunked on me...ha
This is like asking D.J. Mbenga how it was like playing in the triangle. Basically telling us things we already know because they really didn't play much
+WormChemistry Samaki played over 20 minutes per game in his 2 regular seasons with the Lakers...he also played 12 minutes per game in the playoffs when they won a championship...
1playerroyal He didn't play well tho. Also, that Lakers team wasn't exactly stacked with bigs. Aside from Shaq and Horry, who else were there? I remember them having a rookie who wasn't really all that good and didn't play much. They had the European guy who wasn't that good as well.
You're saying that he didn't know it that well because he didn't play in games that much? He only knows the surface things? This dude was at practice every day
+BBALLBREAKDOWN I dont thin people realize how much work it takes to be a professional athlete. EVERY one in the NBA is beyond talented. They may not be as good as others in the league, but in comparison to computer experts, its like playing against Jesus. Love the channel!!!
and BTW the Triangle worked because it had DEFENSE! when you have a luc longley clogging up the paint with a Rodman who can rebound and defend anyone and a scottie pippin and Jordan it's pretty hard to score on that, or lakers Andrew Bynum or shaq or a underrated kobe who can block shots or a Ron artest playing defense it's gonna work TRUST ME!! the Knicks might have PORZGINIS in the paint blocking shots, but the back court SUCKS! AFFALO and Calderón Can't defend SHIT!! and the bench is trash! !!
+starkk19 but people don't mention they had really good defense, knicks want to get durant, how much I would like that we NEED defense, we never had that since 2013 with all those guys like kidd who played really good defense on SQs, iman, Kmart And don't forget Tyson Chandler! perimeter and and rim protect, now we got bums like Joes Calderón defending quick guards. but step one FIREFISHER
he's very clear in explaining concepts!!
Yes indeed. Sorry to say, he's more clear than Jackson.
role players make the best coaches, this dude knows his shit
Yessssss he does!!
Loved watching him back then. Always thought Samaki was a great guy. Watching this video it seems he really is a great dude.
Thx for the video, coach!
+MrSandyBridge Yes, for sure. He's awesome and really knows how to break things down.
He is perfect for this channel, you can tell he´s into it and he explains it well!! One of your best videos with athletes
Excellent INTERVIEW!!!
Thanks!

Thanks coach!
First time I've heard Samaki talk eventhough I'm a big Lakers fan. Hahahaha...
I didn't know he is so articulate.
Yeah, he still looks like he's in pretty good shape

YESS!
Samaki is IN!
What a cool guy.
Samaki can explain it great! Working Triangle Offense is one of the most beautiful things in the world. Thanks for the video Coach!
+cBoa My pleasure. I've got a big ∆ offense breakdown coming up this week. Stay tuned!

Stellar video, Coach, keep 'em coming! #LakerNation
This was very informative for me. I had a basic knowledge of the Triangle offense, but I hadn't dug in detail. Definitely like this video.

I feel I'm playing NBA Live 2002.
excellent and enjoyable video
This dude needs to be an assistant coach for the knicks. It looks so robotic when the knicks run the triangle.
+Lucas Lomba Stay tuned - triangle offense breakdown coming up soon
+James Dolan
That's last year's Knicks. This years Knicks have tweaked where its not so robotic, but it still needs a ton of work.
+BBALLBREAKDOWN maybe now is the right time for the knicks triangle breakdown.. this 3 game win streak is the best ive seen them running the triangle
literally every single video u get better content, keept it up nick!
Wow, thanks! I've got a great one coming up this week, plus more Top 10!
Maybe now is the right time for another knicks triangle breakdown..the way knicks are winning now is the best ive seen them running the triangle
Man, this guy knows his stuff :')
This was amazing 😍
Haha I was there when this was filmed I go to 360 everyday. Samaki is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Loved the vid.

This explains why Jabari is such a smart player for the blazers
SAMAKIIII. Remember him killing everyone back then with the Lakers LOL. He does sound like he could be a good coach.
This is a great explanation on the Triangle Offense...
+Andrew Scott Thanks! Samaki knows his stuff!

what a nice fella. ☺
Great insight coach, thanks for that video. #imin
+Ronny Meinert Awesome, thanks!
are the knicks still running it wrong? im thinking if Kerr installed his offensive fusion of triangle, spurs, dantoni and sloan to the knicks they would be doing a lot better rather than doing the triangle
+Jerome Vallejos They are running it, but also doing regular sets mixed in
Played against Samaki in a LA GEAR summer league. I had to guard him and he guarded me. Every shot I attempted he blocked. Sometimes without jumping. He never dunked on me though both times he tried I wrapped my arms on his shoulders and basically tackled him. 3rd time I got ejected from the game. But he never dunked on me...ha
What a Nice Video. knicks Need to take lessons with him ;)
Wonderful video! :) Woulda loved mention of how the refs purposely stole that series from the kings though.. =0
This is like asking D.J. Mbenga how it was like playing in the triangle. Basically telling us things we already know because they really didn't play much

when you knew that nick was gonna ask samaki if he was in LOL great video though

Got to change the ending screen with current 2016 year :)
Stay tuned.. Almost ready..

Go Cards!
you need to post more game breakdown videos. these formation tutorials get too boring
Paul George must've used one of them time travel machines from terminator to come back to the past.
Nice stache
Is Samaki a free mason?
+Hervé David H I saw the Capped Pyramid/"All Seeing Eye" tattooed on his right shoulder. Is that what you saw too?
Benji Eastman Yep !
How tall are you coach? Isn't samaki walker like 6'11 are you're not looking too short next to him!
This must be evil Coach Nick. Lol. Anyone that's seen South Park knows what I'm talking about.
coach. how tall are you
+LiqCharles 6 feet!
+BBALLBREAKDOWN I thought samaki walker was a center? You two aren't that far.off in terms of height! That's crazy
Haha, the camera must add a few inches to my height then.
That my dad
The warriors run these plays all the time.
How your face feel
He doesn't look a day over 12

Huh? This is the triangle offense. Not defense.
+mrtrololorific yes but what I saying was the Lakers and bulls been successful because they had DEFENSE , something the Knicks lack
+melokid99 of course. No team wins a championship with just a good offense. It's only 1/2 of the equation.
Pay your debts...especially when its by kobe, who would think its a smart idea not to pay up your debt to kobe
Jesus Loves you and wants you to accept him as your Lord and saviour

Basketball is a lost art…..too much dribbling….too many 3s
