It's not necessarily toughness as such. You have to work for your points in Europe. You had to hustle to score in the NBA in the 1990s. Rodman won games on defense alone. Or earlier. Wilt was better than Russell. Russell and the Celtics won all those championships because of game plan. The thing is, nobody can stop a player like Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, etc. one on one. You have to use smarts. Like the Bulls and Rodman against Shaq.

Why, because that's when you grew up with it? Everyone is entitlex to their opinion anbd none of them were wrong. I''ve been watching the NBA since 1966 and I'd take the 80s over the 90s any day. The 90s were almost exclusively about Jordan and the Bulls. The 80s had greart Lakers, Celtics and Pistons dybnasies teams and some other very competitive, fun to watch teams. Just my opinon.

Played ball all through highschool and university growing up in the Bird vs Magic era. That is how I like the game. I realize everything evolves in life, in sports, and that includes, in the game of basketball. So, I'm not sure if it is today's game or the work ethic of today's players that has turned me off the game. There are no more "men" like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Isiah Thomas etc., players who turned up every night, ready to work a full 48 minutes. It did not matter if they had a hangnail, a headache, or a fractured cheekbone, they had a job to do, and they did it. I find today's game boring, it is just a 3 point contest. Period. Full stop. For me, I'm not interested anymore because "the game has gone out of the game".

Because back then there weren't - after all - such attractions off the court as there are now. Back then only basketball mattered. There wasn't as much money. People go crazy when they get money, they prefer off-court glamour, red carpets, etc. Today the NBA is a show in RS, lack of commitment, lack of defense, ASG is a joke! Serious play only begins in PO. Once the players of opposing teams were enemies, today they are friends patting each other on the butts and giving high fives after matches. Zero aggression, balls and a desire for revenge for a lost match. Total fun. But what's important! Because of how the game looks now - fun in the NBA, the USA is weaker and weaker on the international stage. In Europe they defend themselves, in the NBA they don't defend themselves. In the NBA a guy hits 15 three-pointers, in Europe it's unthinkable because he would have left the court a long time ago. In Europe there is no fucking ISOLATION! And in the NBA he hits one across the entire court and plays to himself. In the US it may be funny but someone watching it in Europe can't believe such shit, sorry. Apart from PO there's nothing to watch, seriously. You want to see doggedness and balls? Watch the FIBA Champions League. There's been no balls in the NBA for at least a decade!
PS.. I'm also surprised by the refereeing in the NBA - pharmacy. It's the referees (and therefore the NBA authorities) who are to blame for taking away the players' balls. You punish them with penalties for anything, taking away their manhood. Give them back their balls!!!! You're taking away the players' manhood, which is already dying out. You can't wave your hand because you'll get a technical and a 100k fine for anything. You can't fart during a game because you'd even punish them for it, because it's so unethical. And that's why they run around like xxxx. Nothing is allowed in this NBA anymore. The guy's a pussy... There's more balls in the WNBA already... Give the fans back the 90s and 2000!!!! and finally start defending!!!!

There's something wrong with today's generation, and it's not even the players making the League, the bigger problem is the kids not making it.
Back in the day you had players from all kinds of backgrounds, but today like half the NBA has a father who played pro. Klay, Tatum, Steph, Luka, Wiggens, GPII, Booker, JJJ, the list goes on and it's only accelerating, next year 21/50 top high schoolers are NBA kids. Something is wrong with this generation.

I don't think we can only blame players for this, but the league's rule changes and the way things developed. Before it was outside in with packing the paint and fighting for position, now it's inside out where the 33/33/33 game is undeveloped and people just sit around the line and crack off 3's half the time.

Rules have changed to benefit and 'create' superstars over time. They practice shooting more now and, as such, are better overall when they're 'open'. Here's the thing though: even great shooters today wouldn't get as many clean looks back in the day. There would be more bumping and body contact, and the carrying and double-dribbling would be called, limiting that separation they so clearly need for the clean look. Even the people in this video don't mention the defensive three in the key rule. The league legislated rim defenders out of the game.

Back in the day Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf rarely scored 50 points as a pure long range shooter. Even in 1994 Western Conference first round playoffs Game 5 against the SuperSonics he scored only 8 points because of Gary Payton's defense. Now the same Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf can score 60 every three days.

    • @karimglasgow5518
      @karimglasgow5518 2 години тому

They'd get plenty of clean looks if they game-planned for open threes the way they do now.
Rules changes are only a small part of it; ask any "back in the day" player who's a coach now and they'll tell you that teams were much more restrictive with regard to who was allowed to shoot threes, and how many.
Once the lightbulb went off and everyone finally realized that, because 3 is 50% more than 2 and, therefore, you don't need it to be a higher percentage shot than a mid-range jumper in order for it to be a more efficient shot, shooters at all five positions became a priority. In turn, defending shooters at all five positions became a priority. Your rim protector can't do much rim protecting if he has to come out to the perimeter to guard his assignment.

and they say that today's players are faster and more dynamic. Yes - if you don't defend but run to attack and shoot threes, you will probably have more strength than normal defenders, intercepting and playing the attack, right? Not long ago, in the 80' or 90' someone was covering someone with a plaster to exclude him from the match, etc. And today? I wasn't told to defend! Because I'll get tired! I have to have the strength to score 50 points on the newspaper. Did we lose? What do I care... Something has to change, but someone has to care about it. Another ASG like that and no one in Europe will watch it. I recommend doing some kind of survey on this topic. Maybe it will teach you something. In the past, you waited all day and night for a match, and after the match in the morning you went to the pitch to play. Today, who is going to watch this circus?

Even North American soccer is played with the skill and intensity it deserves. NBA basketball is a bunch of showboating and has lost its integrity as a competitive interesting sport. The average fan wants to see athletes go all out on both sides of the ball. Why go to an NBA game if you can go to the Cirque de soleil and see better entertainers.

Silver is stubborn, he thought he was improving the product but did exactly the opposite. It works for short clips online I guess but the NBA is far less watchable then it was before he was commissioner. People wanna blame the ratings going down on other things and while some of that may factor in the fact is that it was far more entertaining before they started trying too hard to fix it. Reminds me of musicians that lose their core audience by trying to please the masses or follow a trend only to have it not work the way they thought it would.

My personal complete discretion about the game that i love and the NBA, came after the Milwaukee Bucks - Miami Heat 1st round series when the 10nth seed Miami Heat - which is whom i'm supporting actually, way back from the 90's - beat the 1st seed Bucks, favourites to win the title.
Last 6 seconds of regular time there's a jumpball, Milwaukee is 1 point ahead - plays, referee calls, everything was getting more ridiculous with every next possession. After the jumpball, the ball was in the hands of Milwaukee's best player who simply doesn't want the ball and just tosses it away and hopes for the best. Last 2 seconds Miami puts up a bucket to tie the score with 0.5 sec left. Milwaukee's coach didn't take a time out. To win the game.
After the game Antetokounmpo gave a larger than Disney speech, when asked the seemigly stupid question ''Was it a failure?''
The Nba will get more and more paradox.
Players are getting injured not because of competing, but because they don't know how to play physical.
Referees wathing videos during the game and since they don't know how to comprehent rules, they' re just lottering calls.
Spectators competing about the loudest - and creepy - way to commercialize their phrases and enumarate stats lines and new records just to make themselves feel important in national broadcast.
We're talking about basketball, where the concept of dribbling has no meaning.
In this text, it comes as natural for the Nba Commissionaire to have an argument about the competitiveness of the game.
It's hard anymore not to watch them players as just millionaires who get offended if someone tries to stop their way to the basket. We 're having conversations that are out of context.
Thank you for giving me the chance to say these stuff.
P.s. My loyalty to players like: Buck Williams, Otis Thorpe, Jerome Kersey, Antoine Carr, Mike Brown, Michael Cage, Anthony Mason, Terry Cummings , Derrick McKey, Ricky Pierce, Dale Davis ...the list has no ending...
The game starts when the Big Man asks for the ball and gets it.
