      - allowing myself to rest

      - I try to occupy my time with more productive self-soothing activities like gardening, knitting, music or reading.
      - I avoid the mall without a specific aim.
      - I avoid "just looking" at specific online marketplaces, because I just can't come away without a purchase or 3.

This year I decided to quit living as a non attractive woman. I was always adding new clothes to my wardrobe, looking for new make up, spending money on new facial treatments, ... to become this attractive dream woman. And I was never satisfied, I did not like the way I looked. But I have decided to make a mental shift about my appearance and I feel so much more relaxed. Being grateful for the person I am and for what I can achieve now that I have so much more mental 'bandwidth' for 'deep work'. And I feel so much more authentic and I find so much more creative concepts in my wardrobe. Thank you for your interesting content, as always! But this one was special.

I always feel frustrated that I can’t get to my big, creative projects (designing my dream garden). I have always blamed life for giving me too much to do. No! It was me. I am always prioritizing shallow work over deep work and putting too many tasks on my to do list. Thank you for giving me the language to recognize my limiting behavior and the tools to change! 🎉

I got in the bad habit of buying fast fashion from Walmart, Shein, TJMaxx, and Ross. I realized this past year that they look terrible after the first couple of washes. I did a ruthless closet purge and got rid of almost all of these inferior clothing items. I'm loving my better quality pieces from Banana Republic, Loft, and Gap (Gap has really nice t shirts). It's much better to have 5 quality items than a closet full of crap. I often think about how much money I wasted on junk clothes. Lesson learned.

It's so interesting how certain behaviors go hand in hand with our choices. Watching this I realized as I got healthier around money and shopping I also have a better sleep schedule, don't use as much makeup, and that yes I *can* save money, among other changes in my life. It's the domino effect, I guess.

@@Christinamychas That's it! A feedback loop. And thank you for your video on the Indyx app. It's so cool. After going a little crazy uploading all these pics of clothes, I decided the better approach would be to upload the pieces I actually wear and see what I wore in 2024. Like your spreadsheet in a way. I will try to upload every night, if I can.

I quit buying new, non-essential items if I already owned something in that category that needed to be "used up." I can't apply this rule to everything, but I can apply it to most things. For example, I used to have a bunch of different lotions because I'd see a new scent that I wanted to try and buy it. Now, I don't allow myself to buy any new lotion at all until I've completely used up all of my bottles at home. This also applies to perfumes, hair products, condiments - pretty much anything in a disposable container.
Also, I just wanted to say - I freakin' LOVE the length of your hair in this video. I strive to get to this length, but it always ends up slightly too short or slightly too long. Thanks for another great video, Christina!

Hi Christina, love your channel ❤
I quit not asking for help and things I need.
I was always playing superwoman to my family & friends to only end up feeling resentful and uncared for.
I was also being busy tending to everyone else's needs because I was afraid to face my own needs feeling unworthy and selfish.
My husband passes away in 2022 and I'll be turning 50 soon. Thinking of all the years I wasted doing everything gives me confidence to just ask for help and respect my capacity to help others.
I also stopped shopping to put that energy to health and fitness. I was shopping to avoid doing the work to look and feel better.
Clothes & outfits were only a temporary high. Loving my body feels much better. Hell, I can wear the same leggings tank and flip flops every day & feel beautiful.
    Ehhh...who knew!❤

Thanks so much for shining such a kind and compassionate light on shopping addiction. It gets normalised, as you say, but people are struggling and might diminish or hide it out of embarrassment - I know I have. I have a rule that I can never have more than 5 unread books if I want to buy a new one. I read about 50-60 books a year and would buy about 1000 each year if I didn't employ this rule. This has saved me a lot of money and a lot of clutter at the same time.

Kindle unlimited has been a great change for me! I read 130 books last year and being able to essentially have an unlimited library has changed my perspective on reading. I don’t buy a book unless it sticks with me for a long time and even then I’ll read it a second time to make sure I still feel the same way. This way my limited shelves is only filled with books I can enjoy again and again. So worth it for $10 a month.

Thank you Christina to share your struggles and triumph. It’s very inspirational. I’m also on a journey of intentional shopping, purchasing less, saving more. Avoiding influence is a very good way to break wanting-shopping cycles. Spending less time on the internet and social media helps tremendously. I’m rediscovering my loves of reading, hiking, weekend road trips to see a new place. Reinvesting my time and mental, emotional resources into my interests and passions. Living more intentionally and more present. Meditation also helps gain inner peace, healing and balance.

  • @AkiUtada
    @AkiUtada 10 місяців тому +8

I decided not to focus so much on skincare and hair routine. I have curly hair so there’s a pressure to always get the product that will “fix” it, and also to find the skin product that will make me have ideal skin. I came to the conclusion that the number of expensive and unproven products doesn’t make that much of a difference in comparison to a simpler strategy.
Also, I don’t wear make up except on special occasions. I came to the conclusion that when I started wearing make up daily, I couldn’t stand to see my bare face anymore and was spending more and more on new beauty products (to remove make up and fix its effects on my skin!). Make up is for fun, not an obligation.
Actually looking at how most men around me live their lives without worrying about how they look opened my eyes a bit. Sometimes we women put so much pressure on ourselves (and society pressures us) to spend time and money on our looks. It’s freeing to try to be more relaxed about it.

The marketing of fashion magazines constantly promoting excessive use of makeup, skincare products, and fashion, along with the judgementalness of society, is an enormous trap for people, and teenagers without knowing become influenced at a such young age. Most people do not recognize the dangers of the marketing sector. I personally feel people look much better if they stick with healthy wholesome eating, staying fit and using minimal makeup...the natural look.

I bought a gel nail polish cure light, nail tools and gel polish for maybe $75 on Amazon….I’ve saved SO much money on my hands and feet…totally worth it if you’re good at doing your nails. If not and you like to relax during your service do you’re thing ;)…p.s. love your channel

I am amazed that CBC partnered with you on this. I gave up on them years and years ago. Maybe there is hope for my tax dollars after all.

People talk with their hands, its something that people look at naturally. If you are self conscious about them I think its hard to feel confident and not awkward

Shallow vs Deep Work really resonated with me. I’ve always told myself “I’m a Do-er not a Think-er” but that’s not necessarily true and certainly not kind to myself. What I do is prioritize Shallow work because Deep Work seems to require me to be in a certain headspace to accomplish. Does anyone have any advice for how to jump into that headspace easier?

New subscriber here. Just started watching all of the videos. Amazing content, but so far not helpful for me. I just went ahead and purchased 2 blazers on sale 😫😫 I’m working 2 jobs to pay off my bills monthly. I guess I am more serious case or maybe need more time to listen to your advice. Well will keep listening!! Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤

I've stopped shopping without a list. I'm also shopping my closet FIRST now. I've been a nail biter since I was 4 and I'm now 69. I have been able to stop biting my nails for short periods of time through the years. I want 2024 to be the year I stop biting my nails!

I like these brands but it’s hit and miss per product so keep that in mind. COS, Tibi, Levi’s, aritzia, everlane, madewell, dissh, acne studios, Lou Lou studio, Frankie shop very rarely !
