I agree! To listen to a real singer without the 'benefit' of autotuning is a pleasure. He had a voice that rang like a bell.
They were married in 1988. He sang "For You" with such passion and yet as others mentioned no real response from her. A much different love song than "Annie's Song" written when he was young. He was so very handsome here!
believe it or not i was going to play with him at this show.. still cant Believe hes gone. bless you John.. healing to watch this. remembering our meeting and phone calls and meeting lovely little cassie too x
His performance of "Calypso" here is exhilarating !
I've never seen this; thanks so much for posting. The following summer 1989, I saw him in Concert in Cincinnati; and he told the story of how Diana said to him, "Haven't we met once before" and as only John could; replied, "No Darlin' I'd a remembered that" and then said, "That Prince Charles would be pretty good fella; if someone would just find him a job." Thousands miss his talent, music and sense of humor; it's a colder world w/ out him. Thanks again for posting.
@dwindstar57 WOW! You had the exact same reaction that I had when I watched this for the first time over 20 years ago!
My favorite part of this performance is during Calypso, when John's voice cracks on a high note. I don't know why, maybe it makes him seem more personable, makes the performance stand out, but I have watched it many times since I uploaded it and I sit in anticipation of that note and then grin from ear to ear! I love those little imperfections! I Guess I just love John!
Jenni, I have been subscribed and have watched this before. I remember how much I enjoyed John's performance, and I enjoyed it again just as much as the first time. I agree with the comment about him singing 'For You' and dedicating it to 'her', and she just sits there with no emotion...just a stone cold face. I would have had a big smile on my face and thrown a kiss to him. Thanks for a great video of John.
Frankie :)
@BlueiiiedLady Hi Frankie!...I had no idea that was you! :) I remember when my Mom and I both watched this years ago when I taped it. We both were just shocked that she showed no emotion, or mutual adoration. Even a smile would have been 'something'! I would have had tears streaming down my face! Thanks for all the wonderful comments. Have a great night!
Jenni :)
He was really fall in love and he saw her just with his heart.... yeah she shows no emotion... Great video, great last song, one of my favorites.
I have been a John Denver for a lot of years. He was 12 years older than me.I love you put this on here,He was so HANDSOME! The older he got the more handsome to me he got! She looks like she is wishing he would drop dead for telling everyone and getting her shone on tv.If I was Jessie Bell I would have a d and a test while Ron his brother is alive,Then she would know for sure SHE was his BLOOD daughter! I pray she is,But that book makes you wonder. If that had been me he sung to and was blowing a kiss to,by the time he got ready to blow the kiss I would be standing next to him,and get my kiss! I am just that way, when I love I love all the way, until the man treats me so bad I can not take it!I am married to the man I married 24 years ago!I Hurt he had to die so young with all that talent and the beautiful voice. He will missed forever if we can keep him not to be forgotten!God Bless all of you! JOHN Rest in PEACE!
Thanks so much for this addition.
It is interesting that others have also noticed Cassie's stony face during this performance; it has always bothered me. In his book he says that they had several fallings out during their courtship, with jealousy an issue. When I read this it struck me as a portent of what was to come because if you are fighting in those first couple of years when you are crazy in love, it doesn't auger particularly well for the long term. And now I know this it makes me wonder if they were having a bit of difficulty at the time of this concert. He even says I have fallen in love "it seems" which strikes me as less than a ringing endorsement. Lastly, the first time I ever heard "For You" he was being interviewed on radio here in Australia. He didn't sound particularly buoyant in the interview and when they played the song I thought I could detect some melancholy in the song. His songs are usually so upbeat and positive but this one sounds a bit sad. I absolutely love the song but I think he may not have been feeling totally upbeat when he wrote it. I don't deny for a moment that he loved Cassie but I don't think their romance was an easy one and at some deep level it didn't seem to meet his needs.
Very Interesting thoughts, thanks for that.
wow! hadnt heard this b4 . long live his music
Thank you very much for posting this. :-) Three wonderful songs.
She sat there completely stoned-faced, never even cracked a smile or half smile...absolutely nothing for him. Used him to move her own career along and for his money. Jesse Belle was the only good thing to come out of this.
beautiful!
Mon Dieu mon Dieu que de Beauté !!!! WHAOW ... !!! que de Beauté !!!
