This feels like the kind of movie someone in Ultramar would make based on their knowledge of the Ultramarines, then Guilliman watches it and becomes even more depressed.
When the apothecary is such a badass he has managed to grow and look old even by Astartes standards i'd be ok with having him lead breaches too. Likely the only reason he wasn't made Chapter Master is because promoting apothecaries isn't in the codex or some bs like that.
People can say what they want about this…..BUT, the voice actors are SPOT ON when it comes to their characters! I for one, really enjoyed watching this for the second time! 👍👍👍👍
While the story is simple, it is still enjoyable. Only complaint is the sound effects for power armors that sounds like made of plastic, not ceramite steel (which, I guess, should sound metallic ;)). Thanks for this remastered version!
Never got the hate for this. The animation hasn't aged well but for its time it was fine. The story is pretty straightforward but enjoyable. Overall just a fun Space Marine tale for 40k fans. Nothing more, nothing less. Thanks for posting this.
What always bugged me about this movie is having Space Marines vs Chaos Space Marines didn't give any scale to them. Just guys fighting spikey guys. A scene where they maybe took out some human cultists would have been good.
While the plot, the dialogues and and the CG in this movie are all ridiculously bad, I now think about it with fondness, as a throwback to the times when Warhammer 40k universe has not yet become the perpetually commodified Marvel-type pop culture monstrosity as we know it today.
This was one of my favorite warhammer movies, seeing it again with higher resolution, looks nice in my opinion, I fail to see why people dislike it, but otherwise this is a nice film.
Animations were ten years behind even at the time. Story was bland. Voice acting was bland with some exceptional parts. Even the Space Marine video game which came out around this time was better graphically.
If a gun "jams", (and there are several kinds of malfunctions, the most dangerous being a squib load), you can "un-jam" a gun. You cycle it, remove the jammed shell. You don't have to just toss it. Maybe he's concerned that he won't have time and can't afford to be distracted but sometimes I wonder if the people who make scenes like that shoot firearms in real life, respectfully.
I think If this was a *strictly* fan-based film, like Astartes or the works of Sodaz, it would have been praised to some degree. But considering the amount of money, hype, work and raw talent put into this (John Hurt, wtf?), only to have a boring story, poor CGI, lousy sound quality and totally scripted dialog...it just saddens me. STILL, it's "okay" to watch in a non-serious way. Especially when compared to anything Netflix is throwing at us these days. Killer OST though, I will say that.
boring?? that is subjective to anyone bro, others think this is a great story and thats good, anyway its not like any story is fun or entertaining to everyone in 40k or to be precise in WH.
Yes, the score is the only exceptionally good thing about The Ultramarines. Sadly (or maybe for the better, actually) GW rarely excels in this type of content. This makes me think of The Lord Inquisitor, a very promising fan film project that was supposed to come out circa 2013, but unfortunately has never seen the light of day. Even its teasers looked 100 times better than this movie though.
The best parts of this movie are the bolter sounds and the chaplains "burn heretics". Don't worry dorks, Henry Cavill will deliver on the 40k tv series, I'm sure of it.
dunno, just saw the first 3 mins and a space marine, in a power armor making a total of around 600 kilograms.... shouldnt move like that, they move more acrobatic than me with casual cloths
My only complaint about this movie was that the Black Legion never shouted their warcry, "Death to the False Emperor!" I mean this was written by Dan Abnett who was only interested in the paycheck rather than being faithful to the lore of Warhammer 40k that he wrote for this movie.
In the books space marines have been described as emotionally stunted by the rest of humanity. I think this is a good portrayal of these fanatic warriors.
There might be a lot of questions to this movie. But through the years, every time I rewatch it, my main question is: How the fuck did they squeeze the Daemon Prince inside Captain Severus? Hear me out, this is not just a warp sorcery illusion, this is not a possessed marine and nor daemon host either. Captain Severus didn't ascend to the daemon hood. By the Daemon Prince own words he just wears his body and wanted to change it on another one. He is just changing his proportions and squeezes inside Severus and not just wears him Jeepers Creepers, but does possess him. That's an epic bullshit. Damn, Word Bearers and Lorgar himself could not imagine that they could just throw Argel Tal and his "Ascended" company to dustbin and put fucking Daemon Princes in hollow bodies.
It is not unusual for a demon to possess the body of an ultramarine and in this case a captain, they are demons, that quality has always been in them but it is something else that many writers do not explore.
In my opinion, animation haven't aged well & plot is absolutely horrible. Although there are two things I like about the movie - soundtrack & grimdark gothic ambiance. These two things are especially well-made with passion in the movie. If I had a choice between "Hammer & Bolter", "Angels of Death" & "Ultramarines" I would definitely go for last one
Yeah I noticed they breathe hard when they do a slow jog and they died too quickly and easy, they have 2 hearts and 3 lungs, and they died like they were just regular people.
I directed this and enjoyed the experience! Thank you for this. Looks great
Wow! Thank you so much! So glad you like this! And thanks for making a great movie, ill definitely check out more from you!!!

CG was really bad even back when this movie was new 😅
A lot of this looks like a remastered PS3 game but there are some gorgeous shots scattered in 17:51
Brother you are assailing a fortress known to have fallen to Chaos. There are no “false alarms”

wh 40k?? the universe of major contradiction, inconsistence, incoherence and exageration in the fiction?? that must have been quite a shock
Superhuman hearing, sense of smell and extreme healing factor are all well rooted bits of lore tbf, and they missed out
