Bethune was a Canadian doctor, a member of the Canadian Communist Party and an international communist fighter. He came to China's Yan'an Revolutionary Base in 1938 to work as a surgeon and saved many Chinese people. Once during the operation, his finger was cut by a scalpel and became infected with bacteria, causing septicemia. He died in 1939

The shopkeeper with somewhat peculiar behavior showed you Dr. Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor well-known in China. He is widely recognized for his assistance to the Chinese military during World War II, and he passed away due to an infection contracted during his service. He is a Canadian whom the Chinese people greatly appreciate. The message he intended to convey is that Canadians are very kind.

To avoid any misunderstandings, as a Chinese, I would like to explain here (although there have been many comments explaining the situation) that this hot tempered shop owner is showing you Norman Bethune, a Canadian who went to China during World War II to provide free treatment for soldiers and civilians, and was respected and loved by all Chinese people. If I remember correctly, Dr. Norman Bethune was one of the three people in China who have been given national gifts since the founding of the country. Generally, only the head of state would be given this national gift, so its value is self-evident. And with this national gift, the three of them and their families can receive eternal protection from the Chinese government. As long as it does not violate international law or the laws of their country, the Chinese government can fulfill all their wishes. For example, Mr. Rabe, who received the national gift, as a German, protected tens of thousands of civilians in Nanjing during World War II and escaped the tragic fate of being slaughtered by the Japanese, Therefore, he also received one of the national gifts. During the epidemic, his grandson sought help from the Chinese government, hoping to receive a batch of anti epidemic supplies. The Chinese government did not hesitate to arrange for the supplies to be quickly sent to Germany by special plane. These three individuals are respected by all Chinese people, so the shop owner learned that you are from Canada, which reminded him of Norman Bethune. He said: The Canadian people are our friends, and Mr. Norman Bethune comes from Canada!
The three individuals who have received national gifts from the Chinese government as individuals are John Rabe (Germany), Norman Bethune (Canada), and Evan Kyle (United States).
The Chinese government and all Chinese people will never forget that they have helped China. As long as China and Chinese people still exist in this world, we will protect their families until the end of the world.

    • @Marty-o5o
      @Marty-o5o 10 місяців тому +50

The three individuals from different countries mentioned above are respected by all Chinese people for protecting the Chinese people who were invaded during World War II or providing evidence of the heinous crimes committed by Japanese imperialism against the Chinese people during World War II. In our eyes, they are heroes and great figures with extremely high humanitarian spirit.
Dr. Norman Bethune, whom I mentioned, sacrificed everything, including his life, to save the Chinese people in the war. You can ask any Chinese person who has received a 9-year compulsory education. They all know Dr. Norman Bethune and understand his outstanding contributions to the fight against fascism.
Unfortunately, not many people in Canada have heard of Dr. Norman Bethune. He should have been a source of pride for Canadians, but because the Canadian government follows the United States' anti China policy, they are not willing to mention Dr. Bethune. This is both regrettable and ironic.

Almost all Chinese know this Canadian doctor - Norman Bethune, who was a communist and came to China during WW II to help Chinese fighting against the Japanese invasion. He died in China and everyone now in China has been taught to remember his sacrifice during WW II and respect him as a hero.
In 1972, the Canadian government declared Bethune “a Canadian of national historical significance”, creating the Bethune Memorial Home in his hometown of Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. Now this site has become a hot tourist place for Chinese.
That's why Chinese always had a good impression about Canada. Sadly, during these years China-Canada relationship has deteriorated sharply due to politics. If Canada continues to follow US in suppressing China, maybe one day Canadians will lose all the respect and friendliness from Chinese people. But I guess they don't care. After all, most Canadians have no idea who Bethune is, and they do not know or even care what Chinese people have gone through during WWII. To most of them, China is just a backward or even a savage country. Who would need friendship from such a country? nah.

For the alipay problem, it might because some shop owners don't use merchant's account to receive money and use their individual account instead (it happens in part of the street venders and local shops) so that it can't accept money transfer from your international credit card. She told me that if the payment was from buyer's alipay account, merchant paid zero commission. If the payment was via buyer's domestic bank card linked to alipay account, merchant's commission rate is 0.1%. Since international credit card linked to alipay charged 3%+, merchant might not accept the too high commission rate.

His father was a Presbyterian minister from a long family line of clergymen, educators and medical practitioners, while his mother was an evangelical missionary. The family badge of service and his father’s exhortation to “always go where you’re needed” left an indelible mark on young Bethune, influencing his eventual foray into China. There, he offered his selfless medical services to the war-torn country, an act that made him a national hero in a foreign land.

And theres a famous saying by Mao Zedong that, Dr. Norman Bethune is "A noble man, a pure man, a moral man, a man out of vulgar taste and a man who is for the people". Morning market is a heaven for all kinds of freshly made breakfast, and just imagine having hotpot in one of those shiny ice houses!
Dongbei(northeast territory of China) is famous for its Xuehua(snow flakes) beer, Shaokao(meat skewer), lamb hotpot and much more. It has a very rich and diverse culture, you will be able to see both North Korean and Russian influences, as it is located on the border between these three countries.
Growing up as a Manchu(满族) Chinese there, I've had a lot of Chinese Korean(朝鲜族) classmates, and you will even find some white faces speaking perfectly local accent(Chinese Russian), and of course Han Chinese. Muslim Chinese(回族) also hold a significant population there and their Halal food is out of this world.
It may not be as advanced as those mega cities you've been to because Harbin, or Dongbei in general, has fallen behind the current trend. However, I truly hope you can enjoy the culture and diversity there. It is a very unique region in China, and I am pretty sure you as Canadian will find weather there familiar.

If you buy a down jacket in the south, you will feel very cold when you arrive in Harbin because the jacket is not thick enough. Just like you buy a swimsuit in Canada and go to Mexico, or buy a down jacket in Cuba and go to Canada for the winter.

Hello bloggers, I saw your videos elsewhere and wanted to say that Chongqing is a warmer city, but Harbin is a very cold city. Winter clothes bought in Chongqing may not be enough to withstand the cold winter in Harbin. , so you may buy some warmer clothes when you arrive in Harbin, and also buy some thermal patches. They can generate heat and can be bought in pharmacies.❤

First of all, the uncle who sells clothes is outgoing and responsible for soliciting customers. Secondly, the uncle mistook lvana for a Chinese and thought she was leading you on a tour. It's hilarious, usually only men who start families with Chinese girls get this kind of treatment, even though it's only a legal son, they will treat you like their own son, intimate and not distant. When I saw the uncle pulling you in front of his stall and talking a lot, he thought lvana could understand until you guys finished shopping and were about to leave, the uncle's wife came out and told him that she felt that neither of you could understand Chinese. Uncle suddenly realized and said to lvana, 'So you don't understand either'. Laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes🤣

Be careful not to slip when going to Harbin. I slipped many times during my trip to Harbin ten years ago because the ground was covered in thick ice. The indoors in Harbin is very warm, but the outdoors is indeed very cold. I guess you also need a hat and gloves that can cover your ears. Some gloves can also be used on mobile phones. There are gloves available locally in Harbin (because they have this demand), so if you cannot find a suitable one, you can go to Harbin to purchase it. You always discover a beautiful place in the city and will always follow you, a fan from China.

That funny shopkeeper thinks your wife is Chinese. Later, he asked you to scan his QR code, but you refused, he thought you thought this code was deceptive (some bad people in China let others scan the unknown code to steal information and property), so he said this is the payment code, if he cheated you he would be deported. He meant no harm, just a special way of showing kindness. And This kind of mall can bargain, the store will raise the price so that there is room for customers to bargain. The price of the tag is of no reference significance.

In China even though people don't have the same attitude towards fitness as those in the west it is not hard to see that the average Chinese person is more fit than the average american. The time spent on walking/standing far outweighs the time spent sitting in a car. And most malls, including the one in this video, are at least 6 floors high whereas most malls in America are only 2 floors if not just single. That means more stair climbing, and this is also reflected in mountain climbing, which is how a lot of Chinese people spend their holidays.

I don't know much about it, but I looked on the Internet. I translated a piece of information from the Chinese Internet about what to wear in Harbin.
      -10 to -19 degrees
Upper body: base (quick drying)+ small down jacket (about 80 grams of down content)+ long down jacket (about 250-300 grams of down filling)
Lower body: quick dry pants + 600-800g cotton pants + ski charge pants
Hat (plus velvet), scarf, earmuffs, gloves (plus velvet), Uggs (plus wool insoles)
-20 degrees below: On the basis of the above, put on the wool sweater
In addition, you can buy warm and cheap clothes directly in Harbin. Many people on social networks mentioned several wholesale clothing stores next to the Sophia Church. Hope this helps.

As a Sichuanese whose culture is similar to Chongqing. I understand what that man did. Our culture here believes that a husband's submission to his wife means he loves his wife. He is a typical Chongqing person with a bad temper and loud voice. He thought your girlfriend was a native of Chongqing, but she was too gentle. So he's encouraging your girlfriend to be tougher on you, by stoping her use money. Then he got beaten by his wife and shut up. Typical Chongqing man🤣
