- How to Install Fence Panels into Concrete Slotted Fence Posts and 2 TOP TIPS.
In this Fencing video I will show you how to fit a fence panel into concrete fence posts, this is fitting the fence panels into slotted concrete fence posts.
I'll show you 2 top tips, first how to make it easier to slot down the fence panels and second how to secure the fence panels onto concrete fence posts that have crumbled and lost the groove.
This Fences video assumes you have concrete fence posts already installed and only shows you how to erect a fence with concrete posts already present. Broken fence panels should be replaced for your own privacy. If your fence panel has blown down this will help.
Installing or replacing fence panels is a fairly easy task for a competent DIY person and with anything like this, many hands make light work! Make sure you do this on a day where there is not a breath of wind.
Fence panels will expand and move in the wind and when we tighten them it will allow some flexing. Personally I don't like them banging around in the slots as it's very noisy and annoying if it's windy.

After these storms we've been having in the UK I need to replace some fence panels now. Never done it myself before but will now. Great video, thanks mate!
Yeh my video has been very popular this week! Make sure you install on a day when there’s no wind. I’ve got some Storm Eunice footage on my channel as well.
@@LurgsHowToGuides brilliant, I'll give it a watch!
I wasn't going to watch your video, I already know how to insert my fence panels! However, I am sure glad I did now! The wire and cable tie trick looks fantastic and just what I need to sort our panels out! Thanks, Andy.
Thanks Andy, I've had quite alot of negative comments saying bodge job and how ugly but to be honest it's a fence panel not a Picasso Painting, the wire\cable tip I think is really handy, especially when it's windy.
Thanks for the comment Andy, glad it was useful and have a fab weekend. 😎
@@LurgsHowToGuides if you saw what happened to our panels recently.... well, anyone near them in the recent storms may have been seriously injured, if not worse! I've ordered some wire from good old screwfix and I'll get the panels back in and wired in place. Don't care how ugly the fix is, but better than no panels at all.
Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for this video. I'll be installing my fence panels by myself and I feel I'm ready for this challenge 😁
Make sure there's no wind ! Good luck. 😎
THANKS FOR THIS I RECKON THERE WILL BE QUITE A FEW VIEWS OF THIS AFTER WEEK WE'VE HAD!
Yeh although oddly I get a lot of really negative comments on this video. I'm not a fencer or claim to be but this just helps people install one on a budget. Glad to help out. 😎
Top stuff on the candle tip 👍
Glad I could help, yeh it’s a neat tip. 😎
Legend. Thank you 😊
Thanks. Glad to help and hope you had a fab weekend. 😎
Cheers This is really handy:-D
Cool, glad it was useful. 😎
Nice work - 2 panels sorted. I used soap instead of a candle.
Thanks. Had quite a lot of negative comments on this video but it’s just here to help and glad it was useful. 😎👍
Hey how are you is good to see you again you have grown a lot great job man!!!!
Yeh sorry I haven't been to your live streams, just been so busy, yes growing fast here! Looks like your channel is as well, great stuff. Thanks for stopping by and stay safe, all the best. Lurgs
@@LurgsHowToGuides is all right man i haven't showed up in a long to but I'm looking forward to show up more. Stay safe man!
Put the two ends of the coathanger wire in a battery drill and spin slowly to get an even twist.
Great tip. 😎
I just bend one part of the clips outwards rather than trying to slot it from above into place. I’m on my own when I build these type of fences. Placing it straight on is a lot easier. All you do then is bend it back into place then the drill and screw secures it tightly
Cable ties are a great idea to stop the panels rattling
Yeh had a few negative comments saying they don't look great but they do work, and I don't even notice them on ours. It's an extra bit of security when it's windy.
no no no my son ...it's wax on, WAX OFF! XD
Hi. What drill bit would you use for the cable ties? I have a concrete post that’s moved and now the gap is too big (not big enough for next 6x6) so I’m hoping your cable tie technique will solve the problem. Thanks!
Can’t remember what I used but only a small one which you then move up and down to create the line for the cable tie to go through. My big chunky cable ties work really well and if you clip them off you barely notice them.
I was just browsing as to how to get two 6x6 paling panels into my concrete posts (a lot heavier) and I came across this. I was fed up about it, as two of us on ladders have no chance of getting them up....well, I have never laughed so much in my life, never seen anything like it, even me, with no fencing experience at all knows this is wrong and a very ugly bodge job that won't stop your fence wobbling about, but genuinely, thanks, I have cheered up, knowing I couldn't possibly do any worse! Hahaha :-)
You really should have put the cable tie ends on your neighbours side!!! I'm going to.
Ours is down side of house so you never see them. Some argue they look naff but helps hold it in place
They always show light weight panels not heavy duty closeboard as you have to notch each corner of the capping to go in
How to fit fence panels: just get 3 other people to do it all for you. Lol 🤣
Hi I've got these panels with the slotted concrete post i want to T of it what the best way without putting another post in . Is there bracket what act like a slot ? Best regards James
Not sure what you mean?
What length cable tie did you use? Thanks
They are 54cm, they are a bit ugly, the coat hanger wire doesn’t notice as much but they are both effective
My fence posts are at differing widths. Do you have a video on how to fit one of those long squiggly-bobs down the sides to make up the gap? Sorry for my lack of fence lingo, but like many others here, this is my first time doing this!
How odd they are different widths. I would think the easiest way would be to secure some end wooden batons to the sides of the fence panel before you install. Can’t think of another way to make up the gap and still keep it secure in windy conditions
@@LurgsHowToGuides Ok I'll give it a try thanks!
Yourself and the young girl should have had gloves on to stop splinters.
Good shout. Luckily didn't get any!
Grow up you big girl 😂
What if you have no room above ? Trees high bushes ? Can they be installed without having to slide in from above ?
Not that I’m aware of, you’d never bend one in. That’s the only way I know of
those panels actually look half-decent. where do you get them? Great vid!
I ordered them online at Wickes with free delivery. One had a crack in it but couldn’t be bothered to complain. One has warped a little but they were only £22 each I think. I strengthened them all before fitting. Pretty good value.
Our new fence panels are very heavy, perhaps better quality? If I remove the very top piece of wood, surely the panel will flex enough to offer the panel up to the posts at ground level and bend them into place?
You can try that but it will be very difficult. Fence panels are very heavy, these ones were hence 3 people ideally
How tall are your gravel boards? Is it 6ft with the boards?
Gravel boards are about 17cm high. Fence panels are 6ft high so total height top of fence to the ground about 6ft 7inches. Some of the gravel boards have sunk slightly so they do all vary in height a bit. Hope that helps.
So maybe a daft question.. but is there a way to install fence panel from side and not the top? I have to install a new fence panel right up against the house. But my neighbour has a insulation layer installed on his side of the house and it's partly protruding over the inlay groove where I'd slot the panel into place at the top. So annoying really that neighbour couldn't have his contractors take that into account when he had his insulation done several years ago now. The fence was installed 30 years ago now so I'd say it's his fault not mine.
Not that I know of. Hope their insulation layer isn't on your land else you'd need a boundary matters expert to check it out. Need to chat to your neighbour to see if you can somehow get access to the top to slot in a new panel. How frustrating.
Do these panels come made? Might be a daft question. One fence has fallen off because of the wind so I only need a small part installed.
Yes it’s one whole panel all ready made up. You could try and repair the panel with another spare but probably easier to replace the whole panel
@@LurgsHowToGuides do they come in general sizes or are they tailored sizes?
General sizes. Just measure your existing panels and go with that.
@@LurgsHowToGuides thanks for responding
Where is the ppe safety boots lol
I was wearing steel toe capped Sandals. 😄. Yeh good point though.
Any tips to do this solo?
Yes don’t try! It’s so much easier with one at each end, even a small breath of wind can take a panel. Wait for a buddy to help out.
@@LurgsHowToGuides thanks! I’ve got 3 6x6 to put up. Not done so well so far 😂
@@ryanshone3280 It’s easier with 2 people, even better with 3. It’s the height you have to lift it up, it gets very unstable so ideally 3 of you and no wind! Good luck
@@LurgsHowToGuides Yeah, its my job tomorrow. The neighbours son is around to help, I might get my wife to help as well for the middle support.
Yikes today is very windy (if you are in England). I wouldn't try it in windy conditions
In this case you three people to put up this fence, my question is can one man do this on his owen
Only Superman could manage it on his own unless you have maybe a scaffolders platform to stand on so you can lower it down. Would be almost impossible on your own with just a ladder. It's much easier with 2 people, ideal with 3. Good luck
Thank you for your advise, I have done this today with one of my friends
Excellent. It’s certainly tricky to lower it down but glad it’s all sorted. Best get your friend a beer or a cup of tea and some biscuits! 😎
Drill was on reverse 😂
Don’t think it was, maybe it’s the 60fps footage makes it look that way. If it was then DOH!
That's ok if your a lot taller than 2 people who are 5.2 and 5.4 trying to put them in but, I don't want to pay £1,850 labour charges just to slot in 6ft fences that have blown down rediculous labour charges 😮
Unfortunately I can’t help with genetics. Hope you can get it fitted ok, good luck.
Plastic cable ties don’t last that long. You can get steel ones.
You can have the "good" side on your side now, it no longer applies to have this on your neighbours side.!!
Keeping a fence together with wire and cable ties?....ok
What a Gimp
With the wire around that post there’s no way another one will slide in there.. And your drilling holes through crappy thin wood to put cable ties in! Why not cut wooden wedges and slide those in top middle and bottom will last for ages, no ugly cable ties for your neighbour to look at either and no holes drilled…
what a bodge up
I'm sorry, but it looks bad, a metal lock on top, plastic on the bottom. How do lift panels later on? It's not a very practical solution, maybe it gives some stability, but it doesn't look good visually.
This looks bloody awful!
😂😂😂
Honestly thought I was gonna learn something new?
Jesus Christ 🤣😭😅 please don't do like this
Why?
If I had *two other people* to help fit the panels I wouldn't be on UA-cam looking for tips. What a waste of time.
