Yall are lucky to have this vehicle already. I finally found the dealership that had the exact one i wanted with the solar panels. I was going to pick it up, and they told me toyota put a halt on saling the vehicle. 😢 now there saying theres nothing they can do until the 3rd quarter. Im trying to be patient, but the new camry will be available soon. I hope this problem gets fixed within the next couple of months.

Do you have the camera that shows you underneath the car? I thought this was a cool feature in addition to the solar panels.

Thanks for the update. I was considering buying a prius but now that you pointed out the worn door seal, I'm going to postpone any purchase.

Toyota did replace at no charge, but glad it you found it helpful. Personally very surprised myself as it’s not something I would have expected with Toyota.

@@SarahTingen at the time I decided to not put a deposit on a Prius that was in the "build phase", but since then I went on ahead and put a deposit on it and the dealership explained it could be February 2025 before it's available. hope this helps.

*Your guess makes 100% total sense:*
In some vehicles water is getting in via the rear door seals which is then shorting out the (electronic) rear door latches.
    Here are some thoughts:
    · Now we see the downside of electronic door latches! 😄
    · I wonder how difficult it will be for your dealership to replace ALL your door seals, both front & rear. (How many hours will it take?)
Considering you need at least the front driver's side replaced.
    · The last thing it says in the Toyota app, under "Overview" is that (for some other people whose rear latches have already shorted out) *"Rear Door May Open While Driving"* 😲
THAT must be why they halted production!
    · Under "Remedy" it says Toyota will replace the rear *"switches"...*
    · *estimated ...in the 3rd Quarter! (July - September)*
    · They didn't mention replacing the seals which are (apparently) letting the water in, which is causing the latches to short out. (But will they also consider that fix afterwards???)
And I'll bet it will be more difficult and time consuming to replace the seals, as compared to replacing the switches. Which is already a costly hassle -- for Toyota.
    · I assume they'll quietly/silently go back to using the good quality materials they previously used in the door seals. (Maybe they were saving a few dollars with new materials?)
    · And I assume their lawyers & public relations team will tell them to *never mention that the door seals were the cause of the problem.*
    · Maybe they'll resume 2024 Prius production once they have enough new rear door switches and better door seals available.
But initially... All new switches will need to go to the current owners of 2023 & 2024 models. So how fast can they make all those new, improved switches???
The app says that your new switches are estimated to be available around 3rd Quarter...
    · ...And so I will therefore estimate that production of new Priuses cannot resume until (at least) 4th Quarter. (October - December)
    · I'm thankful my favorite car company doesn't have any worse problems. (Like other manufacturers do.)
    · And I consider you to be very fortunate:
    (a) You already own a new generation Prius Prime! 👍
    (b) You can wait to get your new rear switches as long as it takes. It doesn't matter in your case. Since you aren't wearing out your rear door seals.
You just need to replace your front driver's side seal. They should be in stock. Or else available in a day or two. It should be all fixed in the near future. (Next few weeks.)
And Mark, I'm really thankful for you sharing all your Prius Prime experiences with the rest of us (future) Prius Prime owners!

My question is will it be on my dime or Toyota and agree will they see the seal as the primary cause of the water issue.

The seal replacement from my experience with other cars should be fairly simple and not take long.

I guess my car will not be arriving in June/July. If it hasn’t left Japan for the UK yet they will probably keep it in Japan until they fix the rear door switches. I imagine I won’t get it until the end of the year or next.

Hi Mark, I received a message on the app too. When I called my local Toyota Dealership, they said that they haven't received the material to fix the issue yet. I am surprised that Toyota wouldn't have it available.

I guess they discovered the issue and wanted to warn everyone, but I noticed the notice was updated to include a fix in the third quarter of this year.
