    Can I significantly charge in charge mode and then run ac on EV mode when I have to wait in parking lot for 15-20 minutes etc?

      @MarkCeeee 14 днів тому

      @@UA-camuseritis You can significantly charge while driving in Charge mode up to 80%, depending on driving time. A/C and waiting for 15 mins shouldn’t drain too much. Just know you are burning gas to achieve the charge.

      @@MarkCeeee yes I understand that. Ideally I will try to charge it but I live in apartment and don’t have access to charging and Prius prime does not support fast DC charging unfortunately. If I have to sit in car and take office call I would ideally want no engine noise but I guess there may be traffic noise etc that could be a problem. @Youtubeuseritis 14 днів тому

      @@MarkCeeee unfortunately I don’t have access to 120 volt either. 240v is AC charging I believe while super charger is DC charging. By the way at least one plugin hybrid (Mitsubishi outlander) does support fast DC charging but not on CCS as it uses CHADMO standard.

      @MarkCeeee 14 днів тому

      @@UA-camuseritis Maybe you can locate a free public charging area and plug-in there before you do your calls. I use a standard 110v outlet at home and charge overnight. There are no conveniently available public chargers at work, though I do access several at local parks when I visit on occasion. What about using a noise canceling headset when you are on a call? Engine noise isn’t that bad in the new Prius compared to earlier generations. It would probably come on and quickly shutoff as you would be using hybrid engine battery. In the Toyota app you can find local charging stations wherever you are.

    I'm in Ottawa, Canada. Purchased my Prius Prime in February 2024. I just love this car. However, a few quibbles: - Front display is blocked by the steering wheel, unless I lower the steering wheel so it is pressing against my thighs - I have Level 2 charger in my condominium parking spot, which is capable of charging at 19.2kwh, but the Prime can only charge its own battery at 3.3kwh - Cruise controls are located on the steering wheel, meaning I have to lower my gaze from the road ahead of me to find the buttons. Also, in bright sunlight the set speed is hard to read on the dashboard. - No rear windshield wiper But aside from these, the car is perfect for my needs. In Canada, the government imposes a carbon tax on gasoline purchases, but then sends you a "carbon tax rebate" every three months. I use so little gasoline that the last carbon tax rebate (which is based on your having filed an income tax return, not your driving history) exceeded what I had paid for the previous quarter in gasoline! In other words, not only have I been driving on cheap electricity, but I've been driving on free gasoline.

    • @MarkCeeee

      @@TheLeoFoss Leo I use a Level 2 for free at some local state parks and it does charge in half the time despite battery capacity. I am tall and can readily see dash, though do know it can be an issue. Cruise control is a simple button push and with LTA is great though don’t trust it in tight construction areas as the car misreads lane markers and can jerk the wheel. Glad you’re enjoying the car, I like driving it.

      Lower your seat and it will help. The steering wheel is designed to be under unfortunately. You just may be using it wrong it suppose to replace the old HUD (heads up display) so do not try to see your Guage through your stealing wheel. That is and old ICE design. No prius has ever been like that since the first one this is not anything new. Just new to people new to prius. Old prius use to have everything on the center console until the prime added a HUD. This is unfortunately a nuance that was and is lost by many reviews online and is misleading.

    Mark, You and I communicated before, mostly about the EV range we were getting with our 2024 Prime. I noted with interest your comments here about how your range diminished in 90'ish temperatures. And, your opinion that there's a temperature "sweet spot" regards the battery performance. Well, I strongly suspect you are correct. Back in March when the car landed it was still cool here (day time highs around 42f). Never-the-less, we still got 80Km on a charge (no heat or other high resistance loads). That's about 10Km more than advertised. Now, it's summer and we are seeing most days around 25c (80f +-). On the best day yet, I drove 91Km (56.87m), in EV Mode, and there was 6% SOC left. The car would have hit 95Km for sure. This morning after a charge, the computer indicated an EV range of 96Km (60m). Where we live a 90 Deg. day is very, very rare. So, we need not worry about a shortened range. It will be interesting to see how the battery works in our weird winters.

      Hi Tom, At this juncture I’ve owned the car for a year and have been through all four seasons, including winter. Performance in harsh colder temperatures mimics what I am seeing recently during very warm weather. Recently temperatures have moderated to high seventies and range has improved to 48-50 miles on full charge. It was about 40-45 at its worst, so still within stated range. My main issue is the elimination of single occupancy come next September 30th, 2025 which would take away the main benefit of owning the car for HOV access and a shorter commute. Still that’s a year away and definitely enjoy the convenience of charging at home and less frequent visits to the gas station. Moreover, on long trips the car has excellent range as I did a 600+ mike trip on a basically a tank of gas. If Toyota can work out the recall and charging system malfunction issues, it would have been a much better experience.

    I have had a Tesla for 3 years, I did need to replace tires at 35,000 but I think it's because the tires Tesla shipped with a few years ago came with non-EV tires so they did wear faster. I'm running EV specific tires now and Tesla ships them with new cars. They do wear a lot slower since they are manufactured to accommodate for increased vehicle weight. In terms of range anxiety it's honestly something you fear going into an EV, but once you actually start using it, you realize it's kind of a myth. You never use anywhere near a big percentage of the cars battery during commutes or day to day stuff. People talk about the speed of charging or lack of charging but when you go home you just plug it in and it's ready at 100% the next day. I feel like it's even more convenient than having to go to a gas station in this respect. Heck even on road trips it's okay, I can drive for 3 or so hours and just need to plugin for 15 minutes, use the restroom or take a break - and I'm back on the road again. I also have had almost zero maintenance asides from the replacing the tires at 35k - the only work being changing cabin filters and rotating tires. My brakes are still brand new and you probably know why as a prius owner. Not to mention electricity from home is still much cheaper even here in Houston which is known for our oil and gas companies. Honestly people always ask me what problems I've had owning an EV but I'm pretty happy with it and I think if more people tried it they would be pleasantly surprised by them.

In my previous 2017 Prius hybrid, I could set these functions with the right-hand stalk. No need to find any button. Further, if I'm wearing sunglasses the green display is hard to read, and the Adaptive Cruise Control buttons are sometimes also harder to read. Toyota service manager was unwilling to share the reason for the charging system failure. Operation manual states nothing about a necessary charging temperature/humidity range. Sounds like another recall likely. 😥

    I recently had the same issue, however check engine light remained after charging. Toyota service ended up replacing the entire charging system under warranty (3K+ job). Hopefully Toyota will do the right thing and extend the warranty on these faulty charging systems.

    I had to have the charging assembly replaced too. Toyota service manager was unwilling to share what caused of the failure. $3K+ repair covered under warranty. Hopefully Toyota will do the right thing and extend the warranty on this system.

    I'm wondering: · How much did the new cabin air filter cost you? · Was it an OEM part that you got from the Toyota dealership? · Or is an aftermarket filter from Amazon perhaps just as good as the Toyota one?

      John, I paid ~$30 for the higher quality STP brand, which seemed much better quality than the OEM I replaced. I've used STP and Fram before on other cars; they hold up pretty well and I was already in AutoZone. You probably can get cheaper on Amazon for ~$10-$20, but I saw some reviews saying it didn't fit properly or started smelling bad after few months, so totally up to you.
