That’s not a Piano it’s an Hammond organ..the late great Jon lord revolutionized rock keyboards when he plugged it into a Marshall stack amp to match the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore amazing playing.
Keith Emerson might have been doing that with The Nice too, though perhaps they used Vox rather than the Marshall's which did increase the power. Main thing, I came to comments to say it's a Hammond Organ
Jon Lord said, cannot remember where, well, he was upsett because.... he called furniture, it was so heavy because of its weight........ Nsorry, english, you got point.....
Heikki Eronen You are correct he also said that he had had problems with his back from lugging it around in the early days.. he was also good friends with Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac and said he either sold or bought it from her I have to double check
Screams represent the progression of pain a soldier endures when wounded in battle ...minor wound to complete agony ..Ian Gillan learned this while speaking to troops wounded during the vietnam war... He was against war...✌
this is the most important song to me, I first heard it on the radio when I was 5 years old and I wanted to find out more about them. Needless to say, I was hooked from that point on and the new album is out in August 2020 too, 50 years after this. Incredible really. Still great live today.
One of the things that you might not realize if this is truly the first time you're hearing the song is that only the very basic structure of the song is "written" - all the solo parts are improvised live - if you listen to the studio version it's very different - it's what Deep Purple became legends for - their tremendous musical ability to improvise
Led Zepplelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Robin Trower, will stand the test of all time ! Today's music is already forgotten ! Fo real doe. Quennie, bless yourself and react to David Phelps, songs like, No More Night, Just As I Am, The Dream, Water, and many more. Live only, as he sings better live then anybody does in the studio ! Thanks Quennie
It's actually an organ a Hammond B-3 I believe was the organ of choice back then. Don't rush it, let it build. That's Ian Gillan singing. This was before all the electronic crap they use now to cover up mistakes. These guys really knew how to play. Ritchie Blackmore is a classically trained so this is like child's play for him. You really should turn down your mic volume it is so loud that I have to turn down the volume so much that I can't hear the music anymore. And for the last time it is an organ. A piano only has one set of keys, and no stops to flip to change the sound. Oh yeah, and it was live.
To give you some idea of what this song is about, search Child in Time Vietnam War in UA-cam. Watch the compilation made by Marc Andre Ranger. By 1970, at the time this song was made, 40,000 Americans and millions of Vientnamese had alrrady died in the war. It had been on the news in graphic detail for years. The hell screaming at the end is a reaction to that.

English band in front of a very reserved English audience as they were way back then! BTW, the keyboards are an organ he playing and he was classically trained. (R.I.P.)
Made In Japan version is my favorite but this a solid rendition especially considering it's for TV. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending this clip to someone who'd never heard "Child In Time" before.
Can you please please please react to deep purple - perfect stranger, especially the official video. Its such a tune and I would say even BETTER than this, the guitar intro is legendary
Hey queenie if you wanna hear one off the best voices you wil ever hear than check out this live version of one great band from europe. all the reactions i`ve seen from this band were so overwelming. they all reacted wow why didn`t i heard off this band before. one of the reaction was that they got the micheal jordan of music. so if you wanna try something completely new than check out Nightwish - Ghost love score (ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html) live they are one of the best performances.
I'm going to recommend that you, Queenie, now listen to the song, "Somebody to Love," by the band, Queen (Live at Montreal). I think it will blow you away. ua-cam.com/video/mDPacybZ5ok/v-deo.html What do you think, fellow old farts, time for a little Queen?
Yer not stupid, just ignorant. Which could be worse, in fact. Stupid people can't learn, ignorant folk can learn if they're willing. You're learning, so, there's still hope for you.
Thanks for posting! If you have a second, we posted an Eddie Van Halen tribute video. As fellow music fans, we'd love if you would take a listen. It's on our channel. Don't be too tough on us :)
I’m embarrassed because my generation didn’t know how to move because it was new and everybody were so up tight about letting lose and that’s the truth. It wasn’t cool to move with the music unless you were high.
Aargh, that on record is better than this. Usually it is not. Sorry english........ But it is, this is robbish....... Greetings from Finland, trying to find people Who are wathcing DP for the first time.... There are better ones...... Take care.... 🤗Must say, cute you are,.... like Yoda... Just was looking for you..... 🤗
Absolutely true. The “In Rock” version is better crafted. Ritchie meanders on guitar a bit in this where’s the solo on In Rock is properly structured. Nice to hear the extra keyboards on this version though!
One of the greatest songs ever recorded in my opinion
Im my book it is the best ever . I can make load of top 10s or even top 5s , but this will 99% of the time come out in nr 1 position .
Absolutely; NO question.
If something was recorded, it was not DP.
Totally Agree. Absolutely Stunning !!
I don't always listen to Deep Purple but when i do so do my neighbors !
I like that you don't keep stopping the video every five seconds to talk about the music. I HATE it when people do that.
Greatest rock song ever - written and performed by geniuses
That guitar solo might be the best ever. The band is indeed on fire!
In Rock version, possibly best solo ever, not this one, too much meandering.
Jon Lord was a magician with a keyboard 😎🎹
A true song for the ages ✌😎
Great reaction. You get it.
That’s not a Piano it’s an Hammond organ..the late great Jon lord revolutionized rock keyboards when he plugged it into a Marshall stack amp to match the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore amazing playing.

I love that from your reactions that you’re appreciating the classic rock era...
That's the great Ian Gillan on vocals.
That piano playing at 6.06 was bomb indeed lol.
I totally forgot about deep purple lol great reaction!
"Honey, I want a man who can make ME scream like that!"
You're right, the whole band is killing the song!
great reaction to an amazing song tnx. the audience looks bored because they are just a studio audience that didn't know what was happening...

English band in front of a very reserved English audience as they were way back then!

Not a piano, it's a Hammond 'L' Series electronic organ. Cheers!

I’m embarrassed because my generation didn’t know how to move because it was new and everybody were so up tight about letting lose and that’s the truth. It wasn’t cool to move with the music unless you were high.
If you are referring to the crowds from the videos, they were specifically told not to move and remain quiet during performances
That's an organ
Check out the live version from Made In Japan it's much better than this one.
For first listeniing it's not always best way to hear live versions... better album versions.
If you were hearing album version you were on your knees ;)
Not a shocker for anyone with a few brain cells but this is an anti war song, specifically the Vietnam War.
Organ honey lol
... possible, we are sure. Few better albums we made.....
Lol it's an organ not a piano
Sono i deep purple non meravigliati sono loro e solo loro
For a more modern style, react to a group called Five Finger Death Punch "Coming Down" It's about suicide awareness.
Its not a fuckin piano........
Must be...... - she is good..... but wrong song......
Yeah really stupid.Its an organ
