  • Here are the basics of chemical stripping vct floors. We will be using a slow speed buffer with a black pad. We will be picking up solution with a wet dry squeeze vacuum. We will be doing a double rinse. 2nd rinse will be using 5% vinegar with water to neutralize floor. There stripper mix ratio is 6 to 1. Wait time
    For stripper to do it work is around 20 minutes. Before running slow speed. We will be applying wax with a rayon blend mop. I have been a custodian for over 20 years. The purpose of this channel is to share some of my knowledge with you. I remember the feeling when I first became a custodian. I was given a set of keys, a radio and a badge. Didn't get any training whatsoever. Being a custodian is not rocket scientist knowledge. There are definitely things that a custodian needs to know. I call it the art of the trade. Tips and tricks that can make the job much easier and enjoyable. Find me at @mrjeffthecustodian

    Good morning Mr Jeff good evening afternoon or good night whenever you read this I have a question can you do more summer school cleaning videos I used to be a custodian and that was my favorite time of the whole cleaning season was the summertime School cleaning that's when we got to use those big machines and it'll take everything down and really give everything a good throw scrubbing a course in my opinion if custodians did this kind of work during the school year they wouldn't have so much to do during the summer so they can enjoy their summer as well thank you so much for all that you do much love to you mr. Jeff and to your family and God bless this always and most importantly stay safe out here in these streets things have changed so much

    Thanks for the video. I have never stripped a floor chemically all the way. The person I work with will not do that and they’re over the school. But if I ever get the chance at least I will know what to do because of your videos. Thanks again.

    I’ve always liked a 4-1 ratio with stripper. I order my stripper in gallon jugs. I put 4 gallons of water in the mop bucket and dump an entire gallon of stripper into that. It keeps measuring simple and it usually gets the job done the first time as long as you give the chemical it’s time to work. Nothing worse than having to re-strip a floor

    I usually wait until the floor looks dry then start applying the finish. Haven't had any issues. That way I don't risk getting dust and contaminates on the floor before applying the finish.

    Have you ever had trouble with dips or low spots in floors that makes it difficult to imposible to strip all the wax off with the machine? For example I stripped 4 classrooms, a hall and a cafeteria floor 3 times first with a thin 3M black hi-pro pad to get the buildup off, standard 3M black stripping pad to remove the base layers, then a brown 3M pad to get the rest of it off (much like sanding bondo on a car in a body shop) that was missed especially if the floor was slightly uneven. In the cafeteria and hallway the floors had dips in it and I could tell it was still spotty in areas that are just not coming up even with having stripper soak on it for 20 minutes and scrubbing it with the machine and the different kinds of stripping pads I had on hand. I mixed my stripper 4:1 with warm water so I doubt that’s an issue. Any tips?

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  4 дні тому

      Yes I have had those low spots. I have took a piece of pad take my foot and do a scrubbing in low spots. Also you can take a slow buffer and tilt it just a little to onside with minimal pressure to work in those low place during scrubbing. Can be a pain to deal with.

    You talked about the ph levels of the floor what happens if the levels are not back to normal before you wax? And also how do you tell if the phlevel is back to normal

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  7 місяців тому

      The wax can yellow if PH levels are high. If you use a neutralizer you will have nothing to worry about.

    Whenever you chemical strip a floor, you have to vacuum and squeegee the stripper slurry up in a timely manner or else it dries back onto the floor and the time you spent cutting the old wax off the floor is wasted.

  • @mapleleafs99
    @mapleleafs99 7 місяців тому +1

    Just curious you said you had to wet strip it because the floor looked bad after the dry strip. Does that mean for some floors the dry stripping machine doesn’t get the job done?

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes in some cases you have to take it all the way down. Once you
      Get the floor clean and good coats of wax. The dry strip system can be Done the next time floor needs to be waxed. But that is only if floor had been maintained properly.

    Why do you use vinegar?

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  Рік тому

      Neutralize the floor. Stripper has a very high ph level. The high ph level is what causes the wax to be removed. The vinegar brings those ph levels back down. This helps keep the floor from getting a yellow look to the wax.
