ive been doing it now for 4 years, i still like it. morning part of my day is classrooms/bathrooms/locker rooms/ gym. The rest of day is outside which is nice. 7-9 miles a day on my feet which is a great ! music going all day too!
I am a proud Janitor! 25 years, I am 57 years old, it has been some challenging days dealing with lazy coworkers, they are the worse, over all , its the best!!!
I'm a custodian at a nearby college. I like listening to podcasts while I work. The work is okay, but I hope to stay busy during the summer with the kids not being there.
I’m one year in at a high school at first it wasn’t for me but I’ve adjusted and humbled myself and instead of taking other jobs I’m proud to be a custodian/ bus driver. Thank you for your channel
I choose to be a Custodian rather then being a Production Worker.I have done both positions in my career.Yes,you probably make a few dollars a hour less then a Production Worker. But I like being a Custodian.Your are kind of on your own.You set your own schedule. You get down time.If you, like working more by yourself rather then a group of people then a Custodian is for you.
I was a custodian for six years, and if it paid more, I would not have given it up. But, I just finished my degree to teach in December of 2023 and took an interim teaching job at a different school. I do miss it, but you can't make a living and feed your family with what they pay.
I could not agree more love the job and the people I work with but I went to trade school for heavy equipment and I can’t afford to stay as a custodian when I can get jobs with similar benefits with the county highway maintenance department making 20,000 more
I,ve been a custodian for 6 years and I love my job and i,m still learning but i,ve learned alot from watching your videos I really am you posting this video because you have taught me a few things I didn't know I clean middle school and elementary school sometimes it,s really hard and other days it,s gravy it takes a very special person to be a great custodian
I'm a floor tech at a state hospital. The pay is decent, PTO is good, the state pays my health insurance, and the retirement plan is good. But the downside is that we get absolutely no respect from the other hospital workers especially doctors and nurses. Not all but most look down on us because of what we do considering we are very essential to the hospital. I have a very thick skin but I've seen good employees come and go because of the way they are treated.
I lucked into getting a full time union job at a local college as a custodian in my early 20's. Started out mowing the lawns there as a student as foot in the door. It's a great job and recommend it for anyone have doesn't like to deal with people on a regular basis and enjoy less stress.
I have a full time job but i also have a part time custodian job at night. I’ve always liked cleaning and I also enjoy working alone. I’d love to be a full time custodian but I can’t give up the pay and medical insurance of my full time job.
For me it’s taught me a lot and it’s got some good benefits especially it being a government job but if people can’t stand the monotony of every day being exactly the same thing every day because it does get draining.
I am 61 and have been working as a Custodian for a manufacturing company that has a lot of contracts with the Dept. of the Navy. The VCT tile floors that are in the common areas are more than 30 years old, and were very neglected for most of that time. They did not strip and wax every year or two like they should have. Any suggestions on how to get the actual tile clean after stripping the wax off. These tiles are BAD...they need to be replaced instead of cleaning them them, but they don't want to spend $30,000 on replacing all the tile. is there any chemical that will clean stained and ugly VCT tile??
Agreed! Stripper is the easiest technique. It will take many rounds of stripping it and getting it up to getting down bare. Then you will have to continue in sections. Each section must look like the other sections. No leopard spots. Will take years to accomplish depending on when your able to work on
Hey everyone (and anyone can answer these questions, would be a huge help) I just recently returned as a elementary school custodian and love it. The last time I was a custodian was nearly 10 years ago, so I forgot a lot of things. Here's my questions: #1. How do I fit the Auto Scrubber through the door without taking the squeegee apart? There's only one other custodian and he's new and part time. I returned this Monday, but the school is awful looking and the only way to get it to look good again is strip and wax the floors. #2. However, I'm curious how to get up pencil lead marks? I obviously know to get pencil lead up before sweeping, but this is done by kids. If anyone could help answer those questions, that would be greatly appreciated!
My Facebook group maybe a better place to ask these questions. I will get back with you later on some of your questions. Here is a link to group. facebook.com/share/4sL5x6H6YXqzHTDF/?mibextid=K35XfP
@@mrjeffthecustodian Once you have the time to answer, that would be greatly appreciated! Well, I figured out how to get the Auto Scrubber through the doors, used many before as a custodian just needed a day and enough time to work with it. I only have to take the squeegee off on 2 doors & the rest of the doors just go through at an angle. I remember how to get up pencil lead marks, but I only have 3M Sandpaper and don't want to use it because anything 3M takes up wax. If there's an alternative to getting up pencil lead marks without taking up wax, I'd love to know :)! Thankfully, I have 1-2 hours (if lucky) to scrub most halls as most halls don't have a custodial closet. After this Tuesday though, I will be the only full time custodian and will have to clean 3 halls/21 rooms and 3 sets of restrooms so I'm really gonna have to go. 2 halls no problem, and my head custodian is brand new/no experience which is honestly fine since she has great lighthearted humor and makes work, like myself fun 🤣🤣lol! I also like your lighthearted humor too like when you impersonate Raymond, hahahahahahahah 🤣🤣! Thanks for your reply, man and once you DO get the time, please let me know a good way to get up pencil lead marks without taking up wax. I hope you have a great week! Edit: My school rocks as well they threw us a Welcoming Party our first day and every staff member treats us well (so far lol)
@judgmentdragonslightsworng8157 as for as pencil marks. I don’t worry about them until summer. When floors are being stripped. I always angle squeegee on mop machine to get it in door.
Awesome video! I've been a custodian for 12 years now. It's trying at times, and i get frustrated, but i still love my job.
