    This is the most underrated Judo or even Martial arts channel. Really good instructionals. Travis Stevens doing this for such a small crowd is just pure good Karma on him.

    Tricky tricky. The knee-elbow connection--I like it.

      You will catch so many people with it. People forget that as log as your holding onto the sleeve you can touch the legs.

      @@TravisStevensgrappling so if you are RvR with collar sleeve grips and I release collar to grab a single leg it’s ok because I’m still gripping their far sleeve?

    Love it! You just got another sub. I have been involved with Judo, in one way or another, since my early childhood. My father was a Judo instructor for almost 40 years and I have been fascinated for my entire life. I appreciated the more detailed explanation of your approach to Kuzushi (a nuanced portion of Judo that I have yet to master). My dad would always describe it as “grappling chess” and insist that I always be multiple moves ahead or at least be diligently considering the potential permutations in potentiâ.

    I might be late to the party... But thank you Travis for sharing your knowledge and experience for us all to learn from! You're a legend!

    Great details on a superb throw. Being a right handed player, I love this grip and use it on both side. The elbow-knee connection is also very useful in a BJJ context. Awesome video, thanks Sensei.

      Glad it was helpful! In BJJ I would do the second technique and go right into a leg drag pass!

    Very good lesson Travis. Presence of many technical details, understanding of randori situation, explanation of tactical game, and conclusion with a B plan in case of obstacles.
    Don't know of any other judoka video maker that does such thorough analysis. Keep going 💪

    I really appreciate the breakdown of why you developed this particular technique for your Judo. I had a similar problem, where I'm primarily right-sided, but I do not have a good right-sided yoko tomoe. My left sided one is decent, and I will either change my grip to the outside of my opponent's shoulder, and throw my left one after an O uchi, or attack it straight away. I'm still working on developing a right-sided yoko tomoe. But it gave me a throw from a basically out-gripped position, because I'm controlling the outside of their forward shoulder, and opposite sleeve

      @@TravisStevensgrappling oh man I was ask, but I had a question about your ippon seoi nage. Why don't you lock uke's arm down into the crook of your arm? Instead, you kind of go quite high up. Hard to explain, I'll see if I can find the video I was watching. You could explain it in a video if you wanted to!

    Is it possible to get an overhead view of this throw? It's hard to see where you are dropping and where you are moving your uki's weight in relation to the overall momentum. Are you trying to complete a back roll when you begin the spinning drop? Also, what are your thoughts centrifugal forces in judo?

    • @TravisStevensgrappling
      @TravisStevensgrappling  4 роки тому

      We might be able to add an overhead camera in the future. But the editing would be a real pain. Hopfully I can get an editor hired so we can start doing two and three cameras.

    This seems perfect for BJJ, because people take a much more bent stance.
