- 2017 Mazda cx-5 mass air flow sensor cleaning.
In this video I am cleaning the Maf sensor (mass air flow sensor) to correct a cold start rough idling issue the car is having. Since there are no codes indicating any issues this is where I would start first to diagnose the issue.
Just subscribed! Thanks for great tutorials
Thanks for subscribing! that means alot!
do you need to remove the negative on the battery before doing this?
Sorry for the late response. but no, its not necessary but its always safe to do so. just make sure you Never attempt to start the vehicle while cleaning or working on the engine as it could cause malfunctions
I cannot get the tab off of the sensor. Does it matter if it's attached to it or not? Will it make a difference?
Thank you, btw, for posting this.
If the battery is disconnected or the car is off it’s not that big of a deal. But it’s safe practice to have it disconnected to avoid causing issues. Try pressing the connectors together (inward) while releasing the tab and then pull them apart gently.
Gracias amigo
Np. Thank you for watching!
What are your before and after MAF readings in g/s, and at what RPM?
Hey thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Because this was such a easy and quick job I didn't even take the time to boot up my obd2 computer. In the time it takes to unpack, plug in, boot up and set up live scan I had the sensor already removed and cleaned. So to answer your question, I dont have that info. But since doing this cleaning the rough morning idle has gone away.
Did this improve the rough idle?
Yes it did! 👍🏼
Iv used electric cleaner does that matter
Yes it does matter. The MAF sensor is extremely sensitive. Using a chemical that is too harsh on the sensor can damage it.
@@HandsOnDismantler It's written "no residue" on my contact cleaner... Should I buy a MAF cleaner, though?
I noticed that my 2022 model does not have the metal stripes or the little orange sensor. Outside of that, it looks identical. Do I clean it the same way?
Thanks!
What engine does it have?
Man 150-200$ aftermarket used is not true. You can buy OEM new for that money. Aftermarket new ones start at 30$
😳
how much milage?
I no longer have this vehicle to work on but the job was done at 40k miles.
@@HandsOnDismantler how come? We love our 2017 CX-5?
@@SurferSandman it was bought back on lemon law for numerous issues. Some were from the radio, issues with the AC and a issue with the doors not closing properly. During heavy winds it would sound and feel like the door was wide open.
@@HandsOnDismantler Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Bummed to hear about the quality issues. we bought ours with 27k mi just a few months ago, it was a leased vehicle. got extended warranty though so hopefully AC will be covered, currently runs like a blast freezer. lol
