I just discovered if you started your journey at gorlitz Germany. You could have been in 10 countries.
Car vertical in my opinion is a scam can you prove me wrong by doing a YT video with checking 10 cars ?
It's been said many times, but this channel really is the embodiment of acting out random pub thoughts. Good lads!
Its basically Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace in 2025. 😂
"I bet you cant find a lot of Ethan Smale's in the world"
"How many is a lot?"
"Hmm 83?"
"Bet."
Cue insane youtube series "Are you Ethan Smale"? 😂
@@lmaoroflcopter The "Start your own country" bloke?
They're living my 5 second long dreams and intrusive ideas, and I love it.
I love this type of channels. It’s almost like having friends.
Yes!!! The best of rhem all. Autoalex and tdc just get so boring. ATG is brilliant. So varied and just two mates enjoying stupid challenges ❤
Next video should be "how many problems with Ethan's skoda can we fix in 24hrs"
great idea
With little to no budget.
Yessssss. But with a budget 😂
Without getting out of it
I'd watch that!!
Lads,
In Ireland we have a thing called the Wild Atlantic Way (Basically the West Coast) which has a lot of road trip routes and it is fairly cool. I have a 2000 Nissan Micra which I drove to Asia and back in the Mongol Rally and now it is just sat outside my house in Cork...
Fly to Cork, I will give you the Micra and you can do the WAW road trip in it and do what you want with the car 😉
This is the best idea commented on here
This has to be one of the most exciting dad lores ever
Can I have it?
Best idea - sell the car to people who want to do that trip, then buy it back for about £100 less than what you sold it for at the end of their trip. Try and get people who want to do it in different directions so you can swap over the car at the top.
Glad to see Ethan still has the £1000 Skoda. I rewatched that video earlier today!
2 weeks until it's next mot! Let's see how it goes!
I hope they can reach 10 countries in a full thank😅🚗💨
I watched it last night myself 😂👍🏼
best car for the journey
Anyone know what wheels they are?
Cool crossover idea- Ethan gives his car to TDC to fix up, in return Jack makes Will and Edwin very cheesy cheese filled lunches? Also, another of these trips in Jack's car?
Yesss we need crossovers!
Ethan and Jack have to see how many countries they can do in the transplanted corsa 😂
Would love to see the Saab!
The Saab or the 924?
@@benhadden7038 Ooh I think the Saab- the 924 may be a push too far!
If fuel was endless, we could go for loads.
Words to live by.
gave off major “if my grandmother had wheels, she would’ve been a bike” gino dicampo vibes
That's got to be a t-shirt
A Capella killing me softly, over a pair of romantic cheese schnitzels….love you both. Keep up the road trips. ❤😂🎉
Jack's imagination for the surreal never fails.
We need a fixing Ethan's car video, so many quick jobs you could do to make the old octavia a nice place to be, plus getting Ethan on the tools is always hilarious.
I had the same thoughts
agreed
Sounds like another TDC crossover!
It will be the first time they actually got all the gears working.
It's just another thing to do isn't it
3:45 Ethan spills out a brilliant idea - go to Afrika with the Skoda!!! You guys should definitely do that!
Try Morocco, lots of opportunities for fun driving / experiences / video commentary.
There is a channel on UA-cam where 2 guys drove a VW Passat (I think) from Africa to London, England on jsut one tank of fuel
@@Sithhy that is joe Achilles. But Mr. M drove a testarossa to morocco.
Budapest - Bamako is the biggest amateur rally, I'd love to see them making it. This year one team is actually going with a W123 hearse
I once dragged a friend to Bruges just to watch the film In Bruges - We watched In Bruges in Bruges.
You sound like we should be friends/cellmates
In[bruges]ception
Guess we can't do the chicken Kiev in Kiev anymore😢
How meta 😂
If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me. But I didn't, so it doesn't.
Ethan's Skoda looks awesome Edwin made a great choice with the wheels and the suspension 👌🏻
Everything is broken though, I know they make a joke of it but I prefer things that work myself.
@@st200ol well to be fair to Ethan it's a 1000£ Skoda and it's old but yes I would also prefer a working car. But I also think if he's using this as a workhorse he doesn't have to fix some of those issues.
As much as I love Jacks SAAB, im pleased Eathans Skoda is getting the spotlight - and I absolutely adore it! That Skoda is a propper car, full of character. Better than anything new made in the last 5 years.
I'm a little disappointed though, I'd bet you could have made it to Austria if you kept going!
Hands down , The BEST channel on UA-cam ! Every week a new adventure and a fuck ton of laughs lol. Smashing It Lads !! Keep up the great work.
These videos always make the middle of my week much more bearable. Thank you!
By far my favourite channel on UA-cam at the minute. Please never change lads.
Another amazing pub idea turned UA-cam video - loved it!
Maybe.... 570 miles in the tank divided by 117 miles (length of the M25) = 4.87 laps... which means Jack has to modify Ethan's Skoda to be economical enough to complete 5 laps!
First off would be the wheels and tires, the car was designed for 15-16" wheels. Offers the most comfort on 15s, with 16s offering better stability.
LOL - literally today in the morning I startd with my Skoda Superb 2,0 Tdi not far from Cracow, Poland. Heading to Brno, Czechia, then Bratislava, Slovakia, Gyor in Hungary, Vienna in Austria, in the evening Maribot in Slovenia and I stopped for a sleep over not far from Zagreb in Croatia - where I am right now watchimg this video - . didn't plan to make a YT video about it ::) simply - just another day at work- 7 countires wirhin 24 hours
Straight from the underground parking lot to your stereo, this is Block of Brie in the Door Card! Known for their genre-blending mix of greasy garage rock, melted synth-pop, and drive-thru jazz-fusion, they’re back with their latest sonic masterpiece-Melted Expectations! From the funky ignition of ‘Ignition Funk’ to the existential highway anthem ‘Meltdown on the Highway,’ this album is packed with the kind of late-night, fast-food-wrapped chaos that only Block of Brie can deliver. Buckle up and roll down the windows, because Melted Expectations is about to take you on a ride you can't unsmell!
Lovely to see you guys visiting my home country of luxembourg. Kachkéis is actually quite the traditional luxembourgish cheese. You typically smear it thick on a piece of Bauerebrout and add some luxembourgish Moschtert on top.
Car related content from ATG, yes boys ❤. Next time I want to see tyre pressures sent to moon, as much stripped out of the car as possible, panel gaps taped up and as much distance covered as possible, no how many countries, just sheer mileage until it stutters to a stop 😂. I reckon you could squeeze 700 miles out of the old PD 👌🏻
Hilarious to see you guys in Aardenburg. Its indeed a ghosttown lol. I live 10mins away. We often make jokes about Aardenburg. It literally has a castle, a church and thats it.

That's already more than a lot of other places
I had a 2004 1.9dci laguna estate, and if you kept to 70mph on thf motoway you could get 1100 miles out of that tank. Toured all over europ in that and you could fit a double air bed in the back off it for emergency digs. Crate of beer and a disposable bbq is all you needed.
65mpg motorway miles and a 75litre tank, 77 if you brim it. Thats north wales to Nice on one tank. Given ive got a heavy foot i never got Nice in one tank. But i know it was definitely possible if i would have tried. It used to sip juice on a long run.
This is how i dont get that the 3004-15 era diesels arnt as clean as the 1 litre 3 cylinders that get about 27mpg on thr motorway. And less round town as you're always ringing them out. A 2l diesel hardly needs to ever break a sweat. You could drive that car from a stand still into 5th gear without needing to tough the accelerator.
We may all love v12, 10, 8 etc... but we peaked with the 2l diesel form around 04-diesel-gate. From thr same engine, you could get a 110bhp eco box, still with plenty of torque, or all the way to silly rolling coal numbers.
You are absolutely right: Diesel cars hit their peak economy in the late 90s to early 2000s. I do still own a 1996 Passat 35i 1.9Tdi estate with the rare 110HP engine. When you fill the tank to the extreme you get 96l in. Economy ist quite the same as your Laguna - so you get 1200+ miles on one tank if you like. I'll never give this car away.
Ethan isn’t completely nuts… you should just keep driving, and see how many countries you can drive round in say… a week or so. Would be interesting to see.
easy cover all the eu countries and the other ones a bit further east except 2 or 3 that would have a detour on at the moment
Like Scotty Fairno?
@@adamhousden6349 if they would take the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao but well, Portugal might be a big Detour and San Marino or the Vatican (where they shurely don't let your drive in) are quite far south (from the border) but then it might be easy.
the Biggest Problem might be: it will take ages and not a viable project
Visas are a big delay at that point
Those Skodas 1,9 TDIs were sooo good. They were doing like 5,5 - 5,8 liter per 100km, so with a small tank they still got you a loooooong way.
I had one for about 1,5 years and I wish I had it back. Hearing that diesel to rumble...oh memories.
You pair are like energiser bunnies 🤣 .. loving the craziness......
I love when Jack starts going off lol. The candle lit dinner was adorable.
In the eastern USA, you could drive in 12 eastern states on 1 tank of fuel in a diesel or hybrid car if a range of about the same 550 miles. (Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia). I do believe with a slightly newer diesel VW version of your model and some hyperlinking, records of about 1,600 miles have been done on 1 factory tank of diesel in Europe and the USA.
Top tip: when pouring from a 5ltr screenwash bottle. Put the pouring spout at the top and pour it in. Sounds mental. But it stops the glugging and getting the initial drop on target is well easy and it stays rock solid in place.
@HeeHawDonkey-w9f yeah that sorta works, until the contents drain enough to make the bottle a little floppy. Still prefer the handle down, spout up method but yeah whatever works for you.
Or, install a 6V0955485 windshield washer cap. It folds out in a funnel when you open it, very convenient.
Yes! This was a game changer when a mate taught me this. No more oil spills down the side of the engine and the wind catching the pour.
@_Dimon_ Thanks for the tip!
I love it how Jack constantly acts as Ethan's angry, picking 2nd wife. Also - 7:18 - wonderful insight into Jack Joy's parenting experience.
I used a size comparison tool I found online and your amazing 7-country road trip is about the equivalent of driving across my state (Georgia, US).
...I'm envious.

@pevebe good job.

I have a 1999 mk1 myself. Would love to see you revamp it, simailer to what happened to miles. Mine is an estate too. Absolutely love it
Reckon if you had another 70-80 miles range could have added Austria and Liechtenstein. Italy would be another 115 miles so would require a circa 800 mile total range
I've done that in my diesel Jaguar.
With all the crap going on with Auto Alex this channel Is always a refreshing honest watch 🙏🏼👌🏼❤️
I stopped watching him last year. What's happened?
@@Birtybasset1765 nothings changed, he's always been an annoying overdramatic tart
@ long story but basically the guys over there are not as honest and friendly as they appear.
After Schengen, I reckon you shouldve gone roughly Lauterach (Austria) and then your basically on the doorstep of Leichtenstein and Switzerland. 9 countries, 1000km give or take, so right on the edge!
Just what I was looking at
@Lukey-jy4ez and if you went via Dunkirk rather the tunnel you save more fuel there.
You started right by using the right car for the job. My '02 did 600 to low 700 miles per tank , easy. Mind you, I set cruise to 60 on M-ways , and don't drive with a deep-sea diver's boot on. I save that fer me Corvette !! My Skoda never did less then 45 mpg , that was towing a boat, all the gear and back-up engine for the boat and luggage for a 2 week holiday . And these are averages , not 'spot' readings , as taken from the trip computer .It easily averaged 82 to 84 mpg between Isle of Wight and home 'oop north' . Never missed a beat in 250k , still had it's original exhaust, battery and clutch when I sold it , which I had to when ' 'er indoors' became disabled and I had to get an adapted VW Caddy. Not a patch on the Octavia, and can't top 52 mpg , no matter what . Progress , eh ?
Many businesses, especially in smaller towns, used to close on Mondays because they were open on Saturdays. This gave shop owners and employees a two-day weekend split across Sunday and Monday.
In many Dutch cities, shops stay open later on Thursday or Friday evenings. To balance working hours, they often open later on Monday or remain closed for part of the day.
While laws have changed over time, Dutch retail used to have stricter regulations on opening hours. Some businesses, especially family-owned stores, have kept the tradition of closing on Mondays.
Larger cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague often have stores open on Mondays, especially in tourist areas. However, in smaller towns where foot traffic is lower, keeping stores closed on Monday mornings (or all day) remains common.
No way you made it to my homwtown🔥 The service station at 18:00 is actually called "Fressbalken" which pretty much translates to "Guzzle Beam" - quite fitting taking into acvount all the cheese you bought😂
THE relatable content channel!!! What these boys achieve with a smaller budget is insane compared to the closer larger channels. Remain humble and grave our screens for years to come lads 💪
When the fuel starts getting worryingly low, buy a jerry can of diesel to use to get you out of trouble if you run out in a bad spot. That way, you can really see how far the car will go. I reckon that might have got you to Switzerland!
We have a 2005 Octavia (1.9TDi) with 209K on the clock. When we used to take it to Europe, we would get nearly 600 miles on a tankful and that was at motorway speeds.
You don't want to run out of fuel in a direct-injected diesel car, it will destroy the high-pressure fuel pump
It did get them to Switzerland. Do you mean Austria and/or Liechtenstein?
I think running out of diesel in a modern car can cause a few problems...sometimes it can cause air locks in the lines. There are ways of priming a diesel where the lines have air in them.
Hey lads, love the content. Just thought I’d say about the windows. I had an Audi 80 (I believe it’s a similar platform if not the same) that had intermittent problems with the windows. Took me ages to figure out what the problem was. Ended up being a dry solder on one the relays under the dash, was literally about a 5 minute fix. Might be worth a shot if it’s annoying you.
Anyway, keep up the great content!
Good day when ATG uploads!
I did a European road trip last year to Hungary and back. I did it in my DS3. Its been lowered a little bit with a remap and dpf delete so nothing really special. On the way there we did the trip in 2.5 days but squeezed down to 2 days on the return trip. From Budapest to Frankfurt in 1 tank about 612 miles with under 1/4 tank spare but not near the empty mark. We did the same from Frankfurt back to Worcester in a tank. We had 2 people in the car with luggage and AC constantly running. I thought it was good all in all
You two do make the most Lovely Couple ❤😂😂😂😂😂
My rented Audi some years back claimed 1060km from empty. If you could get similar range and squeeze a little more through hypermiling, I think it's possible to make 10 countries:
Dover, Dunkirk, Bruges, Aardenburg, Schengen, through Switzerland to Liechtenstein, Feldkirch Austria and then coast across the Italian border near Reschen am See. Google says 1125km
The best thing about Brie sold in France is that it can also be sold unpasteurized, which means it can definitely go really really really bad in a few days.
Mmmm botulism.
After watching this and "How Far Can We Walk in 24 Hours", I had a thought you should do a public transport related challenge maybe? Either how far in x hours (days?? If Including overnight transport!), or how far until someone falls asleep, how far in a direction (NSEW) in X time... etc. Just an idea 😊
Two episodes of that Skoda getting all fixed up and then taken to Czechia would be really nice.
You boys are such a good laugh. Always buzzing when a video comes out. How about seeing how far you travel by only turning left? I guess until you a square block 😂
The Joy Quote: Do you just shit your pants and go like 'oh it's just another thing I have to do haven't I? Just changing them?'. Bonus the Smale Quote: "If the fuel was endless we could go for loads"... at half 6 a.m.
Funny how TDC and AtG are my main addictions on UA-cam now. Keep on going guys, you are rocking it! As suggested, have TDC do up the Skoda and colab on a roadtrip to Dakar!
Great video, loved seeing a bit of car-related content back! Now awaiting the return of Moss 😆
I was only a few seconds into this video and I actually said out loud spontaneously, ‘oh, I love these two!’ I think that’s a good sign of quality content 😂❤ you always cheer me up. Thanks guys. Please keep going ❤
0:26 You filled up at Stop24? You're mental. It's like £1.80 per litre there and 35p cheaper 5 minutes down the road... brings about a good question though, whats the most expensive fuel station in the UK?
Simple no nonsense content, love it, enjoy it, keep it up.
This content is highly relatable. Anyone could replicate it. It’s a way to create memories with good friend and explore the world!
11:55 when I was younger my grandad was playing car cricket and car count. Car cricket is your moves depends on the pub name.
Car count is to find the old style number plates in order. Starting at 1 and finished at 999. He started years before I was born and was in my teens when he got 999. Mad lol
Well... an example of this in Europe would be 8 or possibly 9 countries in one fuel tank... and here is how:
You start in south-west Czechia verry close to the border with Germany... then you enter Germany and drive towards Switzerland... then after entering Switzerland drive a short distance towards Austria, via Lichtenstein... then when you enter Austria, head south towards Italy... then, after entering Italy drive towards San Marino... then turn north and head in Slovenia... you should have enough fuel in the tank to reach Slovenia... meaning you crossed 8 countries in one fuel tank: Czechia, Germany, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Italy, San Marino and finally Slovenia...
Heck, if the fuel consumption is verry low, and the tank is big enough, I think you could squize past Slovenia and enter Croatia... so that would be 9 countries... the trip (to Slovenia) would be arround 1000km... but there are some cars then can go even more then that with one fuel tank, and it would be possible to reach even Croatia for a total trip of 1200km...
As for how much you would drive in each country: Itally with arround 500km, Germany with 300km, Slovenia 1-150km (depending on where u want to end the trip), Switzerland 100km, Austria 100km, Lichtenstein 30km, San Marino 10Km, Czechia 1km and finally Croatia 1km (if you decide to end the trip there)... totalling arround 1200km... and 8 or 9 countries...
This is my example... if you can find another example with more countries in Europe covered in one fuel tank feel free to let me know...
Heat cycling the cheese absolutely killed me 😂
I'd have gone in a straight line from the UK, France to Belgium, hit the tri-border at Aachen (Germany, Holland) then headed to Luxembourg, and think you'd have enough fuel to go South via Stuttgart and do a loop round Lake Constance taking in Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. That would be 9 countries, but too much cheese for me.
Hey, should've get a Crémant in Luxembourg, the national sparkling wine. That would be perfect with all that cheese. 🇱🇺🇱🇺
Been watching for a little while now, and i must say your videos keep me going through my nightshifts! Thank you for making great content!
I read that wrong and thought you'd bought an army tank! 😂 That would make a good video though, I imagine you could do a lot of stuff with the UKs cheapest army vehicle
We'll add that to the list, cheers.
Next video ❤
@@AllThe_Gearget it done! 😂
Looking at distances, the shortest way to get to Liechtenstein and across the border to Austria (Feldkirch?) would be another 130km/80 miles - too far if they had only another 45-50 miles max. I think it's only possible if the stop to Aardenburg is omitted - and you skip Bruges but go through Lille / Mons. 8 countries & 970 km / 600 miles.
Great choice of car for this! In 2023 I did a roadtrip in 1000€ cars with two friends, one of them bought a similar VW Passat 1.9 TDI - it barely used 5l/100 km and had such a big tank that it could easily do over 1000 km without filling up. Meanwhile my thirsty Volvo V40 and my other friend's small Fiat needed at least twice as many stops, whereas the Passat outright skipped refueling in several countries in a row 😂
Lichenstien….you could taken a punt. Go back and repeat it 👍seriously well done lads, very amusing
Next part of this series needs to be a part 2 but with Jack driving the Saab
I was on Google maps plotting my own course for this challenge 😄 Need just over 1000km range to get 9 countries, and closer to 1200km to reach 10.
Best fuel economy car I've driven is the Golf TDI 110 from ~2016, they easily do ~3,4L/100km (80-85 MPG (UK)) at 110km/h (~70mph) and has a 50L (11 UK Gallons) tank.
If you hypermile one of those, passing over the alps into Italy shouldn't be an issue after visiting Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein!
A bit of planning and youd easily make it to Liechtenstein and Austria for another two on there I reckon
I just came across your channel 2 days ago, and love your videos, so simple but so nice... Wish you guys to reach the 1 million subscribers soon... Keep it up
Best chanel on UA-cam
I've bitched about some of the content you guys have put out. But don't change.. your guys friendship is what makes this channel. 2 friends doing random shite to make us laugh. Quality
4:25 Ethan is the Mark Corrigan of the channel. Does he own an agronomical keyboard aswell?
Did you mean ergonomic
@@Chloe-ei9iw haha
I blame the increased weight from the windshield washer fluid for the decrease in fuel economy.
Not even seen it yet but it's bound to be good... 🤣. And not even a bottle of Candy'Up.... I'm shocked.
This is the best channel on UA-cam by a mile. You boys are really propping up the Auto Alex universe in my opinion.
I feel like this needs to become some kind of competition with who could make the best sandwich with one item from each country using only a tank of gas.
Totally got me reminiscing of the Top Gear challenge from season 12 where they raced from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank. Good stuff
Should do this in Jacks car. To see which is better in a long road trip. I bet its the Saab.
Yep. It would be a million times more comfortable and I do think better on fuel as it doesn't use an ancient PD engine
Definitely more comfortable, but I don't think the Saab would do better on fuel. It might have a more modern engine but it's also 200kg heavier.
@@King_Ears and working windows lol
SAAB has a smaller fuel tank (45l) than the Octavia (55l), so range would be lower. You need a Passat Bluemotion to get the best range (70l tank).
I’ve owned both and the Skoda will definitely go further than the Saab
Surely a high budget version: we bought cheese from as many countries as we could in 48 hours
I did 4 going on holiday. I got from Portsmouth to Port Zelande Center Parcs in the Netherlands and back on 1 tank of diesel in my 2019 Kia proceed. That was with 2 adults, 2 kids and a boot crammed with stuff and doing 80-90 on the motorway through France & Belgium. The Netherlands was mostly single carriageway at 50 mph with a million roundabouts to navigate (they love a roundabout more than us brits o swear) which would've helped fuel economy.
We just maintain speed on the roundabouts when its dead on the roads haha. You can drive straight over most ones, except the double or triple lane roundabouts
How nice to see Ethan and his carer out and about.
I love these challenges!!!
I betcha you could’ve made it to Liechtenstein. VAG cars usually will go another 50km after the indicator has turned to zero (it’s in the little book in the dash). No fun to run out of fuel a diesel car tho 😅 enjoy the stroopwafels 🇳🇱
Great vid guys. How about a "how many countries can we get to on land based public transport for £500".. or fuck it, go big, around the world in 80 days lol
Thanks for the laughs. That thing just doesn't stop! Great idea. My Ridgeline gets maybe 300 miles per tank. But I'm sure its much more luxurious than your Skoda. It's pretty quick 0-60 in under 7 seconds. Drifts pretty good in dirt and even on the street with iVTM4 intelligent torque vectoring. But it doesn't get over 500 miles on 1 tank. That's special. BTW, that city in Netherlands was creepy! Reminded me of an old Star Trek were everyone was all calm and nice. (at first)
As much as I love this channel for being two blokes having fun, it's really the stuff I learn that keeps me coming back. If fuel were endless, we could indeed go for loads!
You should be thanking the Dutch for giving you your daily dose of thinking about the Roman Empire
Aww how precious candle lit dinner 😂😂 nice way for youse to come out 😂😂
ATG doing a car related video? 😅
They only had one car but four cheeses, so really it was more of a cheese-related video.
So many people are saying it, but adding to the chorus, you guys are nailing this. Loved this video. Agree too that a fixing Ethan’s car video would be great!
The 4 colour bics are masterpieces, I have a feeling the one you have is made in china however, the made in japan ones have a significantly smoother action
Pen choice of time travelling Ann Frank😉
You guys and TDC really are the best bunch going, always regular and always entertaining! Brilliant work!
It's nice to see this car channel finally have an episode that involves a car.
The first gear?
was pretty sure I saw you guys driving thru Luxembourg but thought "nah!" Surprised you didn't make a dive for the Lichtenstein border if you were that close, but a great concept and a great road trip.
The Australian version of this is "how many suburbs can we drive through on one tank of petrol"
Thanks for a great laugh over my lunchtime, the screen wash rant was a particular highlight for me😂 This should definitely be revisited as a challenge.👍
Since when do ATG do car content?
Since auto Alex went into hiding
Since before ATG
Right?!?!
Bunch of liars Alex Taylor and Rory
Love how spontaneous this channel is keeps everything fresh each episode
I live in Australia and can barely make it to another state on one tank.
Have you seen the video of the VW Passat 1.6 tdi doing something like 1400 miles on a tank of diesel; Morocco to London.
