FAQ: Yes, I've used multiple monitors before. No, I don't think it's better for me. Everybody has different preferences. For me, a single monitor is king. 🤠
Here's something that you can map on the 2 thumb buttons on your mouse: Undo and Redo. Basically you can scrub the timeline and see a before and after when you add a new effect/grade/etc.
Do you have any recommendations for budget color accurate 4K IPS monitors that can rotate vertical for photo editing in the 27" to 32" category? I've been on the fence for a long time between BenQ, Asus, and possibly HP. Even budget BenQ's always seem just a bit more than I would comfortably like to spend baring the occasional sale.
“Fahns”…. Lol that was seriously comedy gold!! This just goes to show that even though your videos are full of great info.. I’m mostly here for the Gerald. 🤓
Love the minimal desk setup, the whole setup looked great and you did a good job with the cable management in my opinion! Also can't wait to see the PC build video! :D
I switched to the logtech g604 and its been absolutely incredible for video editing. If you'd like I can send over my mouse profile so you can take advantage of the buttons in resolve or premiere.
Nice setup, I switched to Yamaha monitors last year. Was surprised that they are not very well shielded. My previous monitors which were 20 years old didnt have interference like these. I notice some WiFi interference and from my wireless mouse which, is a reason to keep cabled. Is what it is, they sound great.
Awesome video! If you saw my desk, perfect example of how to not set-up your editing desk. I'm really looking forward to the PC build video, I'm about to build myself a new PC so some parts recommendations will be really useful.
Can't wait for the next video to see what all you used to make that beast of a computer. Personally, I would have watched the video all the way through even if it was an hour long but I know that you have a better idea on how long your videos should be to keep everyone watching.
You should do an updated video on editing monitors. More specifically calibration of monitors. I know I need to figure it out I have a duel monitor set up and they are currently different colors.
They are both calibrated? If they are very different monitors you may have to adjust the white by eye to match them. NEC Spectraview supports that for example.
Hey Gerald! Fellow g502 user here; I highly recommend changing the DPI buttons to Control and Alt as you mentioned that you're not using the extra buttons on your mouse. While Alt isn't the most helpful button, I find that using the G7 button as CTRL greatly improves productivity, as being able to CTRL+C and CTRL+V without having to move your left hand from the home row and keeping your right hand on your mouse makes editing workflow extremely smooth. EDIT: also, having control on your right hand also makes navigating through Chrome super smooth with CTRL+T, CTRL+W, CTRL+Shift+T, and my personal favourite, CTRL+2, for example, instantly switches you to the second tab in your current Chrome window.
Looks good, but I would get all wireless devices and raise the computer off the floor so it doesn't consume all the dust and dirt in the room. Great job Gerald. Have a nice day!
You should try Kali monitors! They work great for setups where your speakers are right up against a wall because they have front-firing vent ports for more controlled low-end. I upgraded from JBL LSR305 mk1 to Kali LP6 and I'm convinced that I'll never find a better pair of monitors under $500.
I've used the same mouse for editing the last 4 years and love it. A little surprised you don't program some of the extra buttons to be shortcuts. It has sped up my editing time significantly.
If you have interference with your RGB you should look into your audio cables. You probably use TR instead of TRS cables. Small difference but big implications. Those are actually balanced 👍 another option is a ground loop, but that should partially be fixed with balanced cables as well
I know the difference between TRS and TS and it has nothing to do with the cables. Watch the videos linked in the description if you want to know more about it. It has to do with ground loop, yes, and is only solved with a USB isolator.
It's funny. You and I pick a lot of similar gear. Benq makes great monitors. I haven't upgraded to the HDR version yet, opted for the 32 inch PD series. Still great for Rec 709 accuracy.
Great video Gerald as always. Love the info and humour. Also, you've added some extra mystery as I've no idea who spun around in your chair. Will there be a big reveal? Is this a Netflix six parter?
Really enjoyed this video! Have you tried Kali LP-6's. I have really been enjoying the BenQ PD2700U, it's amazing for $500. Why Audient over Apollo? Just more curious. Thank you again for incredible content!
@@geraldundone Ha, and I as a non-expert had the feeling, that *with only one monitor I am lost* in regards to editing... If you can edit all the great stuff you do on one screen, even prefer one screen, this should tell me something. i got 6 side buttons on my mouse and i mapped Macros for Davinci Resolve and it sped up my workflow a lot. having split track and ripple delete directly on my mouse is a game changer. i also use one button as start and stop. i have a half keyboard with macros and a mouse with macros. i think im the fast editing Gawd!!! lol

Always felt like gaming chairs are fundamentally flawed in that they are top heavy vs meshback chair's weight are lower/central, curious if you felt the same. I got the autonomous ergo chair last year during black friday so it was roughly 100$ off maybe more and I can't complain about the price to performance.
Hello Gerald. I have issue with the r6. Its not good idea to write about cameras in desk set-up videos comment section but wanted to hear back soon so commented in very fresh video. I am from nepal. I bought canon r6 abt 5days ago from a shop here in kathmandu city. Yesterday suddenly i noticed some dots in display while setting camera for shoot. So today went to shop and luckily got chance to change r6 with new one. I checked carefully in shop if there's issue in display as before and didn't find out and came home with new r6. But a moment earlier i just noticed same kind of dot in this too but this time it was in corner. Its too small that we cannot see that in bright area. I am so much worried about it again and googled about the issue but couldn't find out the satisfactory answer. I came to know that it may be a dot pixel dead that is common and not big issue in now days technology but not sure and m much more worried about camera. Can you please figure out what's the problem? Should i be worried or just move ahead? My only hope for this issue is you as you are too technically. Waiting for your reply soon. Thanks
Can you tell me your secret of the audio system you have? It's so much different and of course so much better comparing the two desks you recored! Dose Zoom F6 really help in order to have that quality of audio? or do you do that in the post?
It's a combination of the microphone used, the proximity, etc. Are you talking about the two different shots in this video or two different videos you watched?
@@geraldundone I'm referring to the two different shots in this video. It's so clear for me to compare them when you switched the two shots right after one another. I always feel that your audio is so much better, if not the best, among big name UA-camrs but not as much as this time. I know the audio gears you use a little bit from other of your videos but it's really the gears alone? or do I need to do something in post? Do I need a Zoom for audio recording? Was really looking fwd to geeking out to the computer parts.. I've still never had a 3080 in my possession. The biggest difference would be the VRAM though. You either need it or you don't based on the resolution and effects complexity in your edit. If the 3080 has enough VRAM for you, then the card is plenty.
Have you actually used the SW271 or another SW series monitor? I ran into a big problem with this monitor. After any static image more than 1-2 minutes. It does not completely disappear. The representative office in my region says that this is a normal phenomenon and more often to change the stationary picture, but when asked how to process the photos, they could not answer.
As I said in the video, I used the SW271 (original) for quite some time, yes. Never had ghosting or burn-in issues. You really shouldn't with this type of panel.
I tried to switch mine around after watching that episode too, and it wouldn't operate correctly in that position so I put back. Linus Tech tips did another video on that as well, and they pointed out if your hoses are not directly at the top of the radiator, it shouldn't actually much of an issue for a lot of AIO's.
