Watching BTS content like this made me realize one of the biggest errors I made on set on my recent short film was shooting the dark setting... in the dark. I realized in post that I could have lit it bright with a high contrast ratio on the background and then just tune it down in post to get a dark and moody look and prevent too much digital noise in the shadows. Watching this, the BTS shows how bright the set was but the final shots were dark and moody. Well, that's why it's important to practice the craft and actually MAKE stuff. You learn a little every time. I wish I watched more BTS like this before my shoot! But it's okay, the noise is at a fixable at the moment, it just limits how hard I can push the grade.
Good call man. You can bring down the brightness quite a bit. My best investment/upgrade for my camera was having a monitor that showed LUTS on it. That way I could see the final shot before taking it to the computer and making it too dark or too bright.
(Non camera guy here) Learn to read False Color if you haven't already, should help you a lot for exposure.
@Undercoverbat95what what has to do with Jesus
Made that mistake before... So I destroyed the video more to be intentionally textured due to noise pockets in darkness..
Stop using Bts name to promote your films 😡😡😡😡😡
"Who also didn't win an Oscar this year" and just like that we are equals. Awesome video
Father God loves you so! John 3:16✝️
"Bravo Darling... Bravo"
I am an Acting Teacher and I thought you did wonderfully...
#1) You didn't take yourself too seriously... leaving your EGO at the door, giving yourself permission to learn while teaching us.
#2) You had a GREAT Attitude
(that is everything, because once you get upset or mad... it is all downhill from there and makes for an even longer day.)
#3) You took the time to walk us through every step... and we got to laugh and learn along the way (Thank YOU for that).
#4) You allowed US to walk through your journey of discovery and mishaps and development of Success.
#5) Your wife (and if she is not your wife... she should be!) Was wonderful, supporting you and helping with your FX Makeup...
(I love doing FX Makeup...) especially scars.
#6) This video was short ... sweet... innovating... (not at all boring... THANK YOU).
EXCELLENT VIDEO...
You get an A+ from this Acting Teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to make this great video.
Cool
this is so sweet!

I see that sticker....
Us Zach’s (with a CH) gotta support each other
Zachkibg I'm a fan😊😊😊😊
This is what I’ve been doing for years, and seeing some one show that you really can do this alone, makes me feel better.
the title is under the assumption that netflix makes very high level films.
Maybe visually… but the quality of an actual true, good, and beautiful story is an anomaly, unfortunately.
Some of them are though
@@MallettMotion…stranger things?
@@dollsie_lemon shows are more well done than movies but there is some films that are very good !!
@@dollsie_lemon Well I didn’t say _all_ films and TV shows were void of beauty, some are good, but it’s rare, at least from my own experience.
You're a legend for making this. Thanks so much
No problem! Thank you!
Special thanks to my man @MattAzzarello, who shot the cinematic behind-the-scenes. I promise he didn't help.. I did this solo... remember. Go give his channel some love!
I gave zero advice
😂@@POW.CREEPER
That was really amazing. As I was watching the final film I completely forgot it was done by ONE PERSON. I wish Zach and Paul E.T. would do something together. They're both outrageously talented!
this is better than most netflix films nowadays
Now i haven't watched past 1:20 yet. But this gives me the idea of a psycological horror film where there is one character only. The plot quite simple:
They are alone in the woods trying to escape from... something. They reach a abandoned cabin and enter it. The whole movie revolves around that cabin. They will see facets of them self trying to protect them from the beast(see where this is going?).
The ending is them finally killing the beast, but noticing its been them all along. As they leave the cabin they slowly change into the beast itself. Then outside find a lonely wanderer they can chase. The camera zooms out into the cabin seeing them on the floor bleeding out, police lights shine and 2 officers talk. They had some sort of condition making them see "things". They murdered 20 people before they finally captured them. that cabin was the place the victims where found. Unlike the killer, they couldn't kill "the beast". They now relive the events their victims had experienced.
watch bo burnham inside that is this essentially
not to discredit this ofc this is awesome
I have worked on several hollywood films with hundred million dollar budgets... Yes, it is what they do in the biz
Make a video on "How to cover any scene" ?
Love this! Great idea!
Your passion is inspiring. Great lighting and amazing composition. Well done all around.
I feel like the pacing on this video could have been a bit faster but apart from that I love it
@7:32 Couldn’t help but notice you too have an ultra short throw laser projector! My first indication was the projector screen and then got a small glimpse of the projector! Me personally, never going back after having a USTP!
could have been improved by some fake camera movements or shakey hanfdheld shot plugins. The lighting is too plain and simple. Shadows should be more promnent. The acting and makeup is amateurish. You should compensate this with short scene cuts. btw you need a camera with more dynamic range as a base to achieve the Netflix aesthetics. As seen here ua-cam.com/video/Z1p31REBao0/v-deo.html
I love everything. Music, lighting. Beautifully shot!
why would you use the netflix thumbnail on your video like you're trying to promote the corporation 💀
I don't know but the dressing looks bit odd cause it's so slim like not in the perfect
your wife is so sweet
Try steel wool or wire brush for distressing your wardrobe next time.
Good idea! Much better than rubbing it in the dirt lol
@@ZachRamelan Deborah Landis drug Indiana Jones jacket around a parking lot with a truck to age it up, so you were on the right track.
This is amazing! I love watching videos like these where you can really see the creativity and effort that went into the project
Got yourself a new subscriber that’s just starting to get into filmmaking
"Greeking" is from the phrase "Greek to me" meaning that while something is written with letter we recognize, it might as well be in another language because we don't understand it. An example would be the "Lorem ipsum" text that is usually used to test typefaces on printed materials. It is used to obfuscate copyrighted or trademarked text or symbols when a production has not obtained permission to use them. I just looked at Wikipedia. I didn't know this previously.
This is awesome! I've been waiting on this..I'll never forget that custom motorcycle helmet camera rig you made, still wanting to make one to film solo, but this helps so much 💎
Just make a low budget animation about a gay pinnochio
❤🔥
Learn how to make movies like this through my course, the 4 week filmmaker! www.cinematicacademy.ca/
Very, very cool. Thanks for the inspiration. I've been outlining a few short films to do alone. Seeing this makes it all seem easier than I make it out to be. Cheers. Subscribed.
yooo afta watchin the whole bts i still felt it creepy
LOVE IT!! The lighting transition played out smoothly.
100 missed calls from netflix 🤣
Yooo!! What mic are you holding?
Im also interested in creating a film by myself also
Dude Zach this is INCREDIBLE!!
Loved the video, the bts has inspired me 🙏 keep killing it man
Glad you like it!😆
Wow, what a cool video, not just the short. The entire video, there’s so much I didn’t know about filmmaking.
Damn this was pretty good! Could you maybe also make a video on Cinematography shot list? I always struggle to find interesting shots and most of my shots look boring..
Love this great idea!
It probably looks boring to you because most people put themselves down because some of us don’t believe we can succeed just keep going I’m sure they are not boring
I'm looking for your precise gimbal setup... Great video as always!
netflix level film my ass
Absolutely insane man, not enough congrats in the world. So inspiring to get out there and shoot a short film
Aweeee shucks thanks Jordan
Hi Zach, We made a movie, Slay Queen Movie, and i didnt have a budget, knowledge or as much resources as you do and i wish i saw this video before i shot my movie coz mine is 1 hour long and i struggled to make it as it is.. i appreciate the knowledge im getting from just watching your process
Its the way I rewind to see that crane 4 box cause you don't have the crane you used listed lol. Thank you for this video, love seeing BTS and learning from your channel.
Awesome video man! Very well put together and it turned out really cool for a solo!
You're gonna make an extremely expensive high production cost "meh" story movie?
just kidding, didn't watch but netflix board of directors are stinky... justice for inside job!
1 min 40 sec cinematic video was way harder to create than anything, imagine how filmmakers create whole damn 2 hours to 3 hours movie.
sigma lens 14:33
OK so where's the film? Because three shots at home doesn't constitute a film. Not hating because I"m sure you could actually make a Netflix level film alone. But this is not it.
Anyone from india? Give a like ❤
Not from India, but I'll like it as a Canadian!
your so inspiring bro, i see myself in you!! congrats and keep doing what you love
interesting 😀
14:30 “Sigma” lmaoooo
Which cameras are you using? And what’s all the equipment needed to do cinematography?
Hey man, I´m amazed ... very nice work. Thumbs up !!!
#underrated
Using the monitor and control app will definitely be your friend with projects like this especial being able to set focus from the palm of your hand.
You’re just really self conscious. Your acting was phenomenal
Can you help me become an actor and give me some tips? I’ve always wanted to be an actor.
I like this bro
Great work!! Can I ask what gimbal and tripod did you use?
14:32 Sigma????
Bro that was amazing! Very impressive! 🎉👏
it's the "stop giving me advice" for me )))) wifes u kno
That was great! That was very good acting... Show the film to anyone and they wouldn't know it was all done by one man army!
High dose of inspiration, as always!
That was pretty awesome! Great result for a solo shoot. 👏👏👏
I thought the title meant you making 'Home' alone for a second lol
To be honest I read that too
You can use coffee and water to stain your clothes and body, will look dirt but you’ll smell good 😌
Yeah, i think my girlfriend would like that better
@@ZachRamelan😂
3:51 I love haze sometimes, but my asthma has killed the idea of using it at all. Do you know of any brands that are safe for asthmatics to work around?
What a fantastic beauty! Loved every shot, Zach.
Maybe, would've composed some alien shadows movement on 17:38, easy to make. And will agressively attack with an axe on the last shot, but that's all on pure taste.
The entire red-light sequence is a masterpiece, bravo!
Thank you so much! Good idea too
Netflix level has more to do with the acting and the script than anything else.
So much pain in making the shot on the stairs and then you dont use it :D
Amazing work man! Bravo! Thank you for such an inspiration! You are a legend!
Yrh
Hi dear , fond of your work, where to look for some tutorial on the kind of color correction you do ... ?
Awesome video! Entertaining and informative
Well that was freaking awesome :D
Does someone knows what he had for a fog machine
Can you help me make these short flims I'll pay you
This is an underrated channel. +1 sub ❤
Now I want to try this then be disappointed when it not even half as good.
This is great mate. Well done
That was pretty dope. Great work on the solo shots
this is me but an iPad and iMovie myself nothing els u need to helpppppp
Always love your videos, Inspire me a lot
Thank you so much 😀
Federal security guard here. Farr one hundred percent doesn't follow post orders and justifies making his own rulings based on his ego. I'm not a huge fan of a majority of auditors (not including the man in the video, he does it right), but the job always requires checking your bias at the door and respecting the rule of law and your post orders/policy.
All Farr had to do was admit he wasn't immediately aware of the policy and should have deferred to the responding officers' word on the matter. Farr needs to find another career path. Authoritarian is a correct word to describe him. The auditor made no attempts to obstruct official business, yet was treated hostile. Completely unacceptable in my book.
I don't think this is where you parked your car
you look like the kid laroi when yo were young!
cmon, dude, cmon. ... cmon. 😏 being pissed off about someone helping you does not certifies as "making it alone". Thank you for being honest, though.
So not only a great film but great BTS too! Really loved seeing this process Zach.
Awesome work!
Definitely makes me want to eventually try something like this out
I appreciate that!😁
@@MattAzzarello fancy seeing you here 🙃
@@pauljakeman I'm everyyyywheeeeere
@@MattAzzarello never a bad thing at all buddy! Added you on IG too now bro 😜
great vid, was interesting enough to watch all of! More than I can say about a lot of UA-cams lol. Very informative. Will a smoke machine set of fire detectors?
Iam not afro-american, no way to create netflix level alone.
Love your stuff Zach. When you said to use an aperture of six or seven to have deeper focus, and then also talked about only needing a 60w light, and knowing you use a Sony fx3 with dual native ISO with the higher ISO being 12800, it makes sense that you can make something look great and color well. But what about people who don't have access to great lighting or that camera and its insane "see in the dark" capabilities?
bro u shold play in ded by dedlyt or smthng like ded
I love this!
Hi Mr Zack! I'm SOO GLAD u "appeared" on my feed today!! ❤ ur work! In the past, I've
aged/dirtied shirts by dipping them into brewed tea. 😊
As someone who aspires to be ANYTHING in the film buisness for their job, I love this kind of vid where they walk you through the process and you can be inspired for your own films. Your also just great at what you do and showing us that.
EDIT:You should try making a short film with your phone!
thanks for teaching in details
Amazing! Small tip - putting a little red on the axe would compliment the shirt
Thats a nice tip!👌
John 14:6 “Jesus answered, I am the way, the truth and the life, and the only way to the Father is through me.”
